Okay then, I'll have no apprehension about eating anything you whip up [ except cookies that is ] I'll give your parsnip recipe a go when I get the chance. And you've never heard of swedes, a cousin of danes, that's surprising. This information is straight out of my head. Root vegetable Swede [ Brassica napus ] The swede, known as rutabaga in the US, is a comparative newcomer to our table. It was developed in Bohemia, possibly in the 17th century, though there are no written records of its development. Swedes can be purple, white or yellow in colour with white or yellow flesh. It's a common winter vegetable and is usually used in mash, stews and casseroles. Maybe you know it as rutabaga, got funny names for things in the old U.S of A.

I baga your pardon, Katina, and baga to differ as well.
If ya woulda called it what it is, I would have known exactly what you were talking about. Norway would I have guessed a swede is a rutabaga, and do the rutabagas know you're calling them Swedes? And the Swedes; rutabagas? Oh, what a Scandalnavian that would cause, I'd bet.
Rutabagas: I turnip my nose at them.
Ok, ok....I'm Finnished now.

I believe tonight's ep was the first one of season 3... I really love this show. I started watching it because of the actress who plays (played) Claire, who was in several eps of Hercules, but I keep watching it because of the stories and characters, and even the actors. (Plus I'm a country girl myself.) Too bad it isn't possible to get shows from all over the world on the satellite. Maybe one day it will be possible. If not for the 'Women's Entertainment' channel showing it here, I probably would have never seen this show. I'm sure there are tons of others that I would also enjoy, but will never get the chance to see them unless they're imported here. I don't know why our (US) shows air all over the world, but very few from other countries air here. Just doesn't make sense.

Does seem a bit one sided, though I'm not sure just how many Aussie shows you get there [ not many by the sound of it ] Hate to say it, but with a few exceptions I'm not really much of a fan of our local productions, much prefer the American and British stuff myself. I'll probably get run out of the country if this gets out.

There is a difference in our humor. I don't quite get a lot of the British comedy. I've probably seen more movies from other countries than TV shows. I've seen The Avengers... and I've probably seen others that I just didn't know were imports. Didn't have the internet then. Might not have known McLeod's Daughters was from Australia if not for the internet. I might would have assumed it was an American show and the actors were faking their accents.

Yeah, Brit humour is certainly different, at it's best it's probably some of the funniest, while on the other hand some of their stuff would make you cringe.
If you've heard many Americans faking [ or trying to ] an Aussie accent, you'd have no trouble picking the real thing Jox, they don't get it right I'm afraid, often sounds more like British cockney, or maybe Phalonese.

Now that you mention it, their accents are far different from the fake ones I've heard in other shows/movies. I think it's more subtle? Not as twangy?

That's exactly right Jox, I think most people think we all talk like The Crocodile Man, when really the accent is not all that pronounced at all.
Or at least it's not to us, maybe we're just accustomed to it.

Okay... I may not be here, I need to turn in earlier than usual.
We have different accents all across the US, some are more twangy than others. Is that not the same with Astralians? Or is 'The Crocodile Man' playing up the accent for the viewers?

The accents are pretty much the same throughout Jox, nowhere like the range like in the States or Britain, the Crocodile Man, or Crocodile Hunter, as I should have said, just embellish it.
Don't hear many, crickeys, or g'day cobber, contrary to popular belief, at least not in the cities.

Pfft, Katina. Phalonese is not spoken with an accent - none at all. Now Gabbinese...there's an accent for you.
Love the British humor...mostly in books; I don't watch a whole lot of television. Dry sarcasm; my favorite. A couple of my favorites: Old Herbaceous, and A Year in Province.

You sure about that P, no accent, not even a little Dorian lilt, maybe with just a tad of Ionian rhythm thrown in?
And what type of dialect is Gabbinese, dare I ask.
Agree with you, like I said to Jox, the [ best ] British humour is hard to surpass, don't know if you've ever seen Yes Minister, but it always has me in stitches, even on the third or fourth viewing.
