For all the men and women who put their lives on the line for the greater good, USA & all other countries, and to their families and friends.
Hug a warrior, &/or honor the graves of warriors on Memorial Day.
Sadly, a lot of warriors never got brought home for a proper burial, so honor them as best you can. Release balloons with slips of prayers attached to the strings. Or whatever you can come up with.

Thank you for starting this thread, Mia. One more suggestion, if I may: fly the flag.
Here's to all the veterans in my family, including two who are Purple Heart veterans of WWII (both going strong at 80+, one with an arm that won't quite straighten due to his war injuries, and one with a prosthetic leg, his souvenir from the Battle of Saipan), and my dad, who put in almost 30 years in the military. So proud of them, I am.
And to all the veterans here on Whoosh, many, many thanks.

A nice tribute to the veterans in your family, Siren. Our flag's a'flyin' too.
Patriotism seems to fall in and out of fashion as often as the latest clothing trends. And no one wants war - but honoring those who gave their lives, or put it on the line when tasked to serve their country is something that should never go out of style.

Nicely done, Mia. Thank you! Gams, my sister and I were dismayed to see fewer flowers at the cemetery than in years past. We're wondering if the time will come when Memorial Day is hardly recognized at all. Makes me sad to think that. I enjoyed this photo tribute to women in the military. The story of the "Pitcher" lady in the first photograph reminded me of Gabrielle taking water to the wounded in "The Price": today.msnbc.msn.com/id/37272518
