After almost 3 months, work has finally started on the house. The removers cleaned out the contents yesterday, and today the asbestos people started removing the upstairs ceilings. The upstairs walls all have to go as well. The houses were built mid-seventies and back then plasterboard contained low-level amounts of asbestos, The walls upstairs are also stud-walls using plasterboard. After that the scaffolding goes up and the roof comes off. After the new roof goes on, the new ceilings and walls go in, then the electricians and plumbers get to have their turn. Finally, after all that, the whole house will be redecorated. They say it will be all finished by the end of september but, as my dad used to say, i won't hold my breath!

Sorry to hear you won't be back in your home for many more months. I'm glad you do have somewhere to stay in the meantime though. I hope they're finished ahead of schedule, but, like you, I won't hold my breath either.

That reminds of the novel "A Year in Provence" by Peter Mayle. Hope you don't have contractors that run on the kind of time that Mayle's did!
As someone who's lived through the kind of renovations you've described (though our walls and ceilings were plaster and lathe from the 1880s, and we did it voluntarily, not because of fire and smoke damage), just be glad you've got the caravan! Living in a house undergoing those kinds of renovations is pure hell!

Well, all the structural work and plastering is finished. The decorators move in on Monday and then the electricians and plumbers finish off. I doubt we'll be in by the end of this month, but we are hoping for mid-October. Vox's mum has taken a turn for the worst. She is 91 and is on her last legs. We are expecting that 'dreaded phone call' any time now.

Sorry to hear about Vox's mother. I hope she has an easy passing. And I hope you're back in your home within the next few weeks.

Very sorry to hear Vox's mom is doing poorly. Please let Voxie Lady know I'm thinking of her.
And Happy Belated Birthday to you Moonglum. I saw on Facebook it was your birthday, but since I don't check in often, I saw it late. My birthday wish for you is that you're back in your house sooner than you think.
Same to you, Joxie - Happy Belated Birthday. I usually realize I missed it when September hits! I hope it was a good one.

Thanks. It was just another ordinary day. I was beginning to think that the family had forgotten, but around 5:30 pm, my niece and great-niece texted me to wish me a happy birthday. Then later on, after taking the dog out and hearing an animal in distress, I texted my sister to find out where her hubby was, and mentioned what I had heard. She couldn't find him, so came out to the barn where I was. She realized the sound had to be the recording of rabbits hubby was using to attract coyote. He showed up shortly after to see what we were up to, and they wished me happy birthday. (Which ended my pity party.)

THE END IS IN SIGHT. All the building and decorating work is finished. New carpets are being fitted on wednesday and our furniture comes back from storage on the following monday. So we should be back home next week. Sadly Vox's mum passed away a few weeks ago and the funeral was last week. Vox said to thank you both for your kind wishes.

Very sorry to hear about Vox's Mom, Moonglum.
There's nothing like the comfort of home, and after all you've been through, especially during all the craziness going on with the pandemic, I'm sure returning to your house after all this time will be a huge relief.

WE ARE HOME! All the furniture was returned last week, along with us! A week spent cleaning the furniture and trying to remember which box had what in and 'I am sure I put it in that one'. Reprogramming the heating and wondering where the old light switch went and 'I wonder what this switch does', was fun! Still, we are finally home and that's all that matters. Thank you both for your kind words.

So glad y'all are finally home. Especially now that it's turning cold. I'm assuming that it is much warmer, but I could be wrong on that I suppose.
