Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That's relativity. Thanks for those, lmv. I especially like the one from Einstein. I appreciate him making the theory of relativity so simple, even I get it. And the quote from Jung is just right on.
Here's a terrific quote from the ever-spicy Tallulah:
I've tried several varieties of sex. The conventional position makes me claustrophobic and the others give me a stiff neck or lockjaw. - - -Tallulah Bankhead
And I don't know who said it, but here's one about Tallulah according to one of her friends:
"Tallulah burns her candle at EVERY end."
Legend has it that Tallulah walked up a young Joan Crawford and her new husband and said,
"Dahling, you're fabulous. I've had an affair with your husband, and you're next."

Nate: So I met these guys, and they invited me over for some mansef, and at first I wasn’t sure I wanted any, but then they just kept trying to put it in my mouth until I finally had some. It was actually really good! Glen: Dude...what are you trying to tell me? Nate: That I like mansef. Mansef! Emphasis on the “f”! It’s the Jordanian national dish, with lamb and rice? Oh, go ahead. Take that out of context. I dare you. -On cross cultural exploration

lmv, thanks for those. As I despair about Trace Adkins' wretched "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" being the biggest hit of his career, that quote from Arthur Schopenhauer really hits home.
Loved the one about the handbag, too.

I, regretfully, caught GI Jane while perusing channels and saw this end-of-movie quote of Robert Frost in a book of poems given to GI Jane by some officer. It goes something like this....
I never saw a wild animal die of pity, even the tiniest bird will die in the snow rather than give up.
Something like that. It kinda stuck with me today...that and that darned Bryan Adams' song.

As I drain the last drop from my coffee mug from the last mug of the full pot I made this morning, a few quotes about my favorite thing...
"Men should be like coffee: hot, sweet and strong." ~ Dutch proverb
"Coffee and love are best when they are hot." ~ German proverb
"If I asked for a cup of coffee, someone would search for a different meaning." ~ Mae West
What was it I was talking about when I mentioned my favorite thing? Mae, I'm sure, would know.

Hhmmm...I don't think roller-skis had been invented yet during Mae's time. I imagine though, when pondering if she ought to give them a whirl, she'd say something like....
"When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I've never tried before." ~ Mae West

And that's good stuff from Emerson, yinyang. But I never read a quote from him that I don't think of that old Streisand movie from the 70s, "What's Up Doc". Someone quoted Emerson, and Streisand swooned.

Ooo, I like Emerson, and his good buddy, Thoreau. I, myself, am a bad Thoreau. Or so I've been told. My aim is off, but that's just circumstanial evidence. Secretly, I just like to watch the would-be catcher of my bad thoreau, thoreau his hands up in frustration.
"Some circumstantial evidence is very strong, as when you find a trout in the milk. " ~ Henry David Thoreau

Oh! I just got back from the library's used book sale. Skipped the novels; novels are a dime a dozen - especially at a used book sale. I headed right for the reference books; I can not resist musty, dusty old references. Picked up The Oxford Universal Dictionary, (printed 1933), and Hoyts New Cyclopedia of Practical Quotations, (copyright 1922), and ok, so one novel...maybe more of a personal essay: Gift From The Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh, (Charles' wife). It was recommended as good reading to me a while ago, and maybe I'll stick a quote or two in here from her sometime.
But first - one from my new old quote book. And in keeping with the Walden gang spirit, this one is from Emerson. I like it; it applies to my way of thinking...or more accurately, to the strange way my mind works...
"Each mind has its own method." ~ Emerson

Is there a pill for that? "Doctor, I'm retaining laughter."
And thanks for the offer of the book. I'd put a global tracking device on it before sending it out, though. If those sabre-toothed dust bunnies under my bed get it, it might be gone for good.

Retaining laughter....boll. No pill, but it's a good excuse though, for when the jeans might seem as if they've gottan a bit too tight around that area. Doc would say just to let it out, I'd imagine....the seams or the laughter? I think laughter; I don't sew.
No worries on the book; you can have it Siren. I'm not sure I'm liking yet and am nearly through. Just not my cup of tea - these "inspirational" books. I think finding one's own inspiration is in itself inspirational, rather than reading what another thinks you should find inspiration in. It is beautifully written though; wonderful style of prose, and does make some interesting comparisons between things seemingly unrelated. It is worth the little time it takes to read it.
