Show creator Tim Kring says one of the major characters will die this season.
Heroes' Hiro Nakamura Ever since Lost killed Boone, sweeps has become a blood bath. Now, Heroes creator Tim Kring says there will be a character on his show killed during sweeps.
"During February sweeps we are going to kill off one of our regulars, someone who has been with the show from the very beginning," Kring says in the new issue of TV Guide.
Kring wouldn't hint at which character will be offed. He said that with hero Hiro's time-bending capabilities, death might not mean the character is never seen again.
"Not all those who are killed are making their last appearance on the show," he says. "We actually do have plans for the character who's dying."
Heroes is the biggest freshman hit of the 2006-2007 season, averaging more than 15 million viewers a week. The show has helped NBC regain some luster after falling to fourth place among the networks last year.
ABC's Lost may have started the "murder sweeps" trend when it killed off major character Boone Carlyle, played by Ian Somerhalder, during the show's first season. That move was such a hit, ABC heavily hyped the next death--Shannon (Maggie Grace), Boone's sister--during the first half of season two. Now, the deaths on Lost keep coming regularly and are barely noticed.
