Identity theft scams are junk e-mail scams that try to trick you into giving away personal information. They do this by making their e-mail look official. You can help stop identity theft scams by remembering these tips:
- Be cautious of messages which are urging you to respond quickly, or threatening to change your account standing.
- Scroll over the URL. If you see lots of numbers, or a different URL, it’s probably fake.
- Keep your accounts and personal information up-to-date.
- Remember: Most legitimate businesses, including Microsoft and MSN, won’t ask for your personal information via e-mail.
