I highly recommend these be avoided:

Silent Hill....eeewww. That'll go down as one of the most stupid, ridiculous, and a complete waste of time movies I almost sat through, (only made it about one quarter into the thing before we turned it off).
Trying to think of another, but the problem is that I usually don't remember the names of the ridiculous ones, (or most of the good ones either).

Well, I rented these from Netflix just within the last couple of months, so they're fresh on my mind. I not only wasted my time, I wasted money too.

Wouldn't mind getting three plus hours of my life back that I spent [ wasted ] on "Pearl Harbour" some time back, didn't cost me anything as I saw it on the tele over two sittings, as I couldn't last till the end the first time. Still makes me shudder whenever I think about it. Good idea Jox, I was thinking of starting a "worst movies" thread as a companion piece to "favourites" never got past the thinking stage though unfortunately.

I've not seen Pearl Harbor yet. Might not ever. I did waste my time on The Black Dahlia last night.
I don't know why we hadn't started this thread back when we started the other.

I've wanted to see "Pearl Harbor", but will heed your always-good advice, kat. I should've known it wouldn't be much, considering those 2 leading men.
My worst film lately was "Bridget Jones 2: The Edge Of Reason". Horrid film! Doubly a shame, after the first one was so good.

Yeah Siren an jox, wouldn't be in a great hurry to see PH, but who knows you may see something in it that I missed.
Sorry to hear about "The Black Dahlia" it starts on Foxtel this month and I was lookin' forward to it, probably have a gander at it anyway.
Channel surfing late the other night and came across "Bolero" with Bo Derek; a guy can only stand so much, this gave bad films a bad name, thought the scenes of Bo riding her horse were far more interesting then her so called "erotic" scenes, poor girl would have to go down as one of the worst actresses of all time.
About twenty minutes was all I could stand before heading off to bed shaking my head.

By all means, watch it. Just because I didn't like it doesn't mean you won't. I'll most likely sit through PH at least once . . . I just won't be in any hurry now. I've enjoyed movies that were blasted as awful, and I've hated movies that won tons of awards, so I always watch movies for myself to see if the hype is right or not.

Elizabethtown Salvage
Whenever I start a movie, I usually have to finish it, even if it's just pure crap. I'm hoping that the ending will make sense . . . but they usually don't. Not in the case of Salvage. If you can stand to hang in there, the ending will be worth it. At least, for me it was.

It's on right now: "Catwoman" with Halle Berry. Just mind-boggling that an Oscar-winner starred in that horrible film. The only way I can rationalize it is that she agreed to it because it would be a fun role, and had NOT read the script till she was already obligated. And her performance is as bad as the script. As one of my most-respected movie critics, James Berardinelli, put it: "As poorly written, ineptly directed, and hideously acted as Catwoman is, its biggest sin is that it's boring. This movie does not offer a single worthwhile, interesting, or exciting scene." Here's his complete review: www.reelviews.net/movies/c/catwoman.htmlAnd here's the page where many of America's leading film critics teed off on it: www.rottentomatoes.com/m/catwoman/

BOLL, Siren! What do you think brought me in here? Yep, just finished watching Cat Woman. Wish I had read your post prior to the start of the movie!
But then again....
....as bad as it was, there was something oddly fascinating about it. It was the suit - I want the leather suit.
The whip would be fun too.

Exactly what I thought as well Lady P, can't really put my finger on exactly what it was that held my interest, but something sure kept me rivited to the screen. Gotta agree though, it was pretty dang awful. P.S. Reckon you'd look great in that suit Lady P, the whip has me a little woried though.

That's how I feel about:
Muriel's Wedding Secrets & Lies
Which I still have to stop on when I notice them airing. I guess it's the train wreck effect. They were awful (IMHO), but I still have to watch them. They draw you in. Or, they draw me in. I like the main actors/actresses, and they just keep me glued to the tube, wasting the time away.

Mia, I, too, can often hang with a bad film if I like the actors well enough. As for "Catwoman", several reviewers said that they figured that the concept of "Halle Berry in a tight leather dominatrix outfit" was enough to get that film the go-ahead from the studio. But that rotten script overcame Halle's...ahem...assets, at least, in the minds of many reviewers. My brother-in-law, on the other hand, gave not a whit for the script, and was riveted to the screen, a goofy little smile on his face.

Last night, Hubs and I watched Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof", one of the most bizarre movies I've sat through to the end in a long time.
Kurt Russell stars as "Stuntman Mike", a washed-up, has-been stuntman psycho killer.
Very, very strange, and once making it through the extremely slow first thirty minutes, the movie takes an unexpected, but since it's Tarantino it's expected turn, and the rest of the movie is like watching a car wreck. <snicker>
Gruesomely disturbing, but you can't look away.
There is a Xena link in this move: Stuntwoman, Zoe Bell, who plays herself in "Death Proof", was a stuntwoman for Lucy Lawless in Xena.

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare Most of the A Nightmare on Elm Street sequels are total codswallop but this one really takes the cake. It's god awful. It actually hurts to watch it.
Them This movie was so rubbish. I saw it at the cinema. And me and a friend were the only ones in the theatre so we talked all the way through the film. Basically monsters that can get you if you switch the light off. Que lots of lights and torches breaking. Oh and the ending had some girl sucked into her wardrobe by little blue goblins.
Darkness Falls This film was so similar to Them that they've become blurred in my mind. The only difference is that this one stars Anya from Buffy and instead of blue goblins that get you if the lights are off its an old woman.
Highlander II: The Quickening The first film was a classic, but this sequel was so bad and pointless that most fans and the film-makers themselves have ignored it. The other sequels completely pretended that this film ever happened. The first film featured sword wielding Immortals, but the second film presented us with the theory that the Immortals were aliens from the planet Zeist. Total tosh! What's the point in making a sequel anyway. The first film had a real final ending.
There are loads more movies people should avoid. I just can't think of them right now. I'll get back to you.

Anybody else waste three nights and six hours on Comanche Moon? It wasn't no Lonesome Dove.

No Commanche Moon; I never watched the Lonesome Dove series either.
I did, however, watch one-in-a-series of what I'm assuming, based on the sequel we watched last night, can only be a series of really bad movies: Resident Evil - Extinction. Ten minutes into it - maybe five, because the first five were just as bad as the second - Hubs said, "You know, this is really stupid". "Yeah, it is." But yet we watched the whole thing, and I still can't figure out why.

They must contain subliminal messages. I usually have to sit through a movie that stinks just to see if the ending makes any sense. Very seldom do they ever give me an inkling as to what it's all about. I keep telling myself I'm gonna stop wasting time on crap, but I don't seem to take my own advice.

Ever walk into a movie rental store and see a whole wall of the same movie, with every one of them gone. You gotta think, even if you've never heard of the movie, "gee, this must be a good one if so many people are renting it."
I happened upon such a wall yesterday, and what luck! An employee came by and put one returned movie back on the wall full of empty places just as I was standing in front of it, wondering what I was missing.
I read the cover - a horror flick. "Hhhmmm", I asked the employee skeptically, "any good?" "I have't seen it", she said, "but I hear it's one not to watch alone."
Thirty Days of Nights. Don't watch it alone because you may fall asleep unless someone is there to nudge you back awake. Small Alaska town is overrun by a pack of vampires speaking a very odd grunting language, (subtitles provided - eyeroll), during a month of sunless days.
Even worse than sitting through the entire movie - which we did - was realizing when it was done that it wasn't 1:30 in the morning, but because we forgot to change the clocks, it was actually 2:30 in the morning. Seems we spent way more time watching this movie then we should have.

I'm curious about that too, kat.
Did anyone here see "28 Days Later"? I wanted to see it and its sequel, but never did.
Wasted time yesterday watching my Sooner gals get pummeled by the bottom-ranked team in the Big 12 (!) the Missouri Tigers. Unbelievable - I still can't believe those crappy-playing impostors stole OU's uniforms and punted that game!

Lots of biting, blood, and guts....but not any more than one would except in a cheesy vampire movie, I suppose. I didn't think it was that gruesome - I certainly would not have left the theather for that reason. Now leaving out of sheer boredom....well, though perhaps warranted, I probably would not have done that either, because if I sat through it in my own home, I'd have probably done the same in a movie theather. Movie theathers have better popcorn.
I haven't seen either, Siren. And I'm sorry your Lady Sooners lost so early. As Katina has always said, (before this year, I mean), there is always next year.

As Katina has always said, (before this year, I mean), there is always next year. I'm glad you added that proviso Lady P, and hey, I'm sure you're itching to know, but do you realise we kick off our defence of the flag and our quest for back to back Premierships in just six days. Go Cats.

Yay, kat! Glad your "footy" (correct?) season is about to begin. I can tell you're not too interested - you only have the season's start counted down to the day! I hope your team has a great season, and defends their flag proudly. I'm afraid the Missouri Tigers were the real McCoy, kat. Our division, the Big 12 "conference", is pretty dang tough from top to bottom. Usually, though, my Sooner gals would be well-rounded enough to prevail. But this season, which started out with such promise, soured badly at the end. We will barely make the NCAA national championship tournament. But we won't last long, I'm afraid. The good news is, our amazing post player, Courtney Paris, was, for the 3rd consecutive year, voted to be an ESPN All-American, a very prestigious award. Here's more on this once-in-a-very-great while player. We feel very fortunate that, as season ticket holders, we've witnessed her historic career in person for the past 3 years. Scroll down once you get her page, and read about some of the many records she has broken. And she's a great kid, too, very sweet, gracious, and of high character. soonersports.com/sports/w-baskbl/mtt/paris_courtney00.html"Ummmm, maybe you have a higher threshold for that sorta thing Lady P" - Lol! It has to be higher than my "oo, gross!" threshold. I probably saw most of the "slasher" movies of the early- mid 80s. Now, I have little tolerance for that sort of story. But the gore and cruelty in those films has risen dramatically in the last 10 years, I would say. Nothing at all like the movies we watched at the drive-in, back in the day.

I hope your team has a great season, and defends their flag proudly. Yep footy is correct Siren, and you've got me well and truly pegged, a footy "tragic" from way back. Thanks for the support, I'm "quietly" confident, think we have the best team in the competition so if we have a reasonable run with injuries we'll have a second to none chance of going back to back. Had this written out to put on a couple of days ago but never got around to it, so the season has actually started now with our first game Thursday night, a rematch against the side we demolished in last years Grand Final, a lot closer this time, in fact 110 points closer but with the same result, the Cats winning by nine points, so that's one down, twenty one [ plus finals ] to go. I'm afraid the Missouri Tigers were the real McCoy, kat. Our division, the Big 12 "conference", is pretty dang tough from top to bottom. I'm sure the disappointment of 06 was a huge spur for the players, so with any luck your gals can do the same thing next season. As for Courtney Paris, sounds like one out of the box that's for sure, not only a great talent but as you point out, a great person as well. I probably saw most of the "slasher" movies of the early- mid 80s. Now, I have little tolerance for that sort of story. But the gore and cruelty in those films has risen dramatically in the last 10 years, I would say. Nothing at all like the movies we watched at the drive-in, back in the day. Couldn't agree more, caught a bit of "The Hills Have Eyes" remake the other day and fair dinkum some of the scenes would turn your stomach.
