It's excellent. The only niggles I have is that at the start Hope appears to accidentally release Callisto, and faints when she sees her. Why exactly? She doesn't have to pretend to be good as there's nobody there to see. And the other niggle is once again godess Callisto gets easily defeated by being buried under some rocks. But that aside, it's an exteremly powerful emotional episode, with some great performances. I think Amy Morrison is great as Hope - she really has a talent for being scary. Who's funeral is it at the end though? I've always thought it was for Solan and Hope, and then there's the great symmetry of X&G standing by their respective offspring's funeral pyre, but somebody else suggested that it was Solan and Kaleipus, which doesn't work nearly as well.

I thought the actress that was casted as Hope did a spectacular job! There were moments when she sent chills up my spine due to her eerie evil creepiness...
The scene where Gabrielle leaks that the girl is Hope -- wow, did Lucy do a fantastic job or what! Her expression and pained/disgust definately showed the 'maternal instinct' in her to come out.
When Gabrielle was telling Hope that she was her mother... boy, that was done wonderfully as well -- we saw Gabrielle's 'maternal instinct' come out as well and it was so beautiful how Gabrielle was trying to convince Hope that she was abandoned due to love.
The scene when Xena runs into the room and finds Solan was so dramatic and beautiful.... I was almost at tears when I saw this -- and her scream of anguish...
The very end, at the burial... the way that X said "You lied to me, and now my son is dead" wow, was that deep and chilling! And when Gabrielle said "I love you" and no acknowledgement was returned...

She doesn't have to pretend to be good as there's nobody there to see. Hope fainted because after using her powers to free Callisto, she became weak... just as she did when she killed Kaleipus.
Callisto: “So you had to kill him-- and look what it’s done to you-- meek as a little kitten. Which means, Solan-- is mine.”
Hope: “No. You have to get me out of here. Leave me now-- and join the rest of your puny gods when Dahok destroys them. Lose everything I promised-- everything Dahok brings.”
Who's funeral is it at the end though? I've always thought it was for Solan and Hope, and then there's the great symmetry of X&G standing by their respective offspring's funeral pyre, but somebody else suggested that it was Solan and Kaleipus, which doesn't work nearly as well. Since Xena & Gabrielle were standing side by side at the head of the funeral pyres, I'd say it was Hope & Solan.

Since Xena & Gabrielle were standing side by side at the head of the funeral pyres, I'd say it was Hope & Solan. I agree, only because earlier in the episode, there is already an alter set up for the fallen Kaleipus.

That's good then, as it works much better that way. I just wondered if in the circumstances Xena would be prepared to honour Hope, and to allow Hope's funeral with Solan's.

Hmm... well, in the end, Xena is put in that circumstance... she and Gabrielle are pretty distanced... I think that Xena just completely ignored the side of Hope and focused soley on Solan (how odd that sounds)...
