The music that comes with this episode (in the Season 4 OST) is beautiful! I love 'Hello Beautiful' it's so eerie yet serene at the same time...
The whole scene with Xena attacking 'Hope' was wonderfully done! The look in Xena's eyes and the fidgitting then sudden drop of the sword really helped the moment out a lot! And not to mention the confused and torn look from Gabrielle! ;D
I thought the beginning of the episode (after the credits) was just plain hilarious -- the random pop out from the pit -- heh... poor Joxer...
And that music in the end that I'm in such dire need to obtain.. *sigh*

~Jessi Someone posted on another board (I think: A1ecto ) that the tune was called "At Mother's Tomb" and that it's on the Season Two soundtrack... (song 2)

You know... I'm listening to "At Mother's Tomb" right now and it's definately not it. It's featuring a clarinet or possible oboe... and then it goes into a different melody (almost Hercules-like) and ends a cute Xena-ish ending. *sigh* Maybe I'll play it on my flute and record it lol.

This is one of my faves. It appeals to the horror fan in me for one thing, and I love the scene with The Destroyer attacking Xena and "Gabby" - the storm sound effects and the lighting all just make it wonderfully atmospheric. There's some genuinely scary moments too - it really does start to look like Joxer is about to be eaten. There's lots of stand out moments: Xena and Joxer following Gabby through the forest (but turn out to be different people); Gabby looking in the mirror and seeing Hope's reflection; Xena emerging from the pit at the start; and best of all the ending with The Destroyer killing Hope then realising what he's done and finally getting that hug. What is really great though is the character of The Destroyer. Normally you have the monster as something that's just unquestionably evil for the good guys to kill, but this turns it totally on it's head. The monster here is really a victim of Hope, just doing what his Mother tells him in the hope (no pun intended) that it'll make her love him. It makes for a poignant and emotional story that isn't really what you're expecting. Okay so Gabby's excuse for surviving the fall is a bit flimsy, but then this is TV. ;D
