The WB’s “Smallville” will have some good old fun as guest star Tom Wopat joins fellow “The Dukes of Hazzard” alum John Schneider in "Exposed," airing Thursday, Nov. 3, according to Zap 2 It.
Schneider, who plays Clark Kent's foster father, Jonathan, in “Smallville” and played Bo Duke in the classic series, seems to have good luck when he pairs up with a co-star named Tom. “Dukes,” which co-starred Tom Wopat as Luke Duke, ran seven seasons, and “Smallville,’ which stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent, has been going for five seasons so far.”I only work with TWs," said Schneider.
The episode includes plenty of nods to “The Dukes of Hazzard” for fans of the show. “It has the potential of bringing in the entire 27 years' worth of 'Dukes of Hazard' audience to 'Smallville,'” said Schneider, “which is great."
For example, Wopat plays Sen. Jack Jennings, a name that pays homage to "Dukes" balladeer, Waylon Jennings. A reference is made in conversation to Chickasaw County, home to the Duke boys. And, the senator drives a '69 Dodge Charger which has a broken door, so he has to climb in through the window. “Dukes” fans take note: the Charger in this episode is the same one that was used as the General Lee in “Dukes,” according to KryptonSite, however this time it is painted blue.
Working together again was easy, Schneider and Wopat said.
Welling agreed. "They were like two kids in a candy store,” he said. “You could tell that a lot of the old gags came up again.”
"We fall into a rhythm, Tom and I," Schneider said. "It doesn't seem like work at all. We have so much fun reminiscing and talking.”
For those who never saw “Dukes,” the show will still be entertaining. According to The WB’s official description of the episode, "Exposed" will center on a murder mystery. After a young girl turns up dead, “it is revealed that she was a stripper and Jennings' mistress, which makes him the prime suspect.” Lois, played by Erica Durance, goes undercover as a stripper to find answers and ends up “kidnapped by a diplomat's son (guest star Woody Jeffreys) who intends to sell her into slavery.”
"Smallville" airs on the WB Thursday nights at 8 p.m.
