The eye likes what is sees and gives full-season orders to much if its prime-time schedule.
It stood a Ghost of a chance. CBS annouced today it has given full-season orders to 14 of its shows, including three series that premiered last September. Criminal Minds, Ghost Whisperer, and How I Met Your Mother will all return to the schedule next year, along with the usual suspects, including the CSI franchise. The move underscores how confident CBS is in its programming schedule.
Criminal Minds, starring Mandy Patinkin and Thomas Gibson, is the season's second-most-watched new program, according to the network. The show averages 13.29 million viewers in its Wednesday slot opposite ABC's megahit Lost. More importantly, Minds has improved its time period ratings by 33 percent over last year.
Supernatural drama Ghost Whisperer, which stars Jennifer Love Hewitt as a woman who can speak to the dead, regularly wins its Friday night time slot. Whisperer has helped CBS win the night in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54.
Surprise-hit comedy How I Met Your Mother, starring Josh Radnor, Alyson Hannigan, and Neil Patrick Harris, averages 10.11 million viewers a week. The show has increased CBS's standing in the time slot by 13 percent in adults 18-49 and 10 percent in adults 25-54 versus last year's time period.
Eleven more shows received got green lights for another full season.
Crime shows have continued to do well for CBS, and they renewed Cold Case, Numb3rs, Without A Trace, all three of the CSI shows, and the fast-growing NCIS. Reality contests Survivor and The Amazing Race were given the go ahead for another season, and news magazine 60 Minutes will enter next season as the longest-running prime-time series on TV, with 39 years under its belt. TV's number one comedy, Two and a Half Men, got picked up for a fourth season.
