In a cryptogram, one letter is substituted for another. Example:
plaintext --> AUTOLYCUS encoded --> CZERXWIYM
Everything is a clue - word length, double letters, frequent pairs, punctuation, etc...

I wanna go with you. I've studied the stars--spoken with philosophers-- and I have the gift of prophecy." Gabrielle Damn episode makes me cry everytime. One Against an Army Good one Guru.....got another?

I'm not very good at the cryptogram thingy, but if that's what the quote is, I think the ep is "sins of the past".....right, Scrap'? right, guru?

Actually, by including "Poteidia", and the stuff about philosophers in the sentance the qoute comes from "One Against an Army". ;D
Otherwise you are absolutely right!

I hate to argue with you Eirene.....actually I love to argue...hence the name Scrappy........
The line in "Sins of the Past" is as follows:
G: "Hey, just because we're betrothed, doesn't mean you can boss me around. I want to stay and talk to Xena. You've got to take me with you, and teach me everything you know. You can't leave me here."
And the line from "One Against an Army" goes like this. With the reply from Xena.
G: "You've got to take me with you-- teach me everything you know. You can't leave me here in Poteidaia. I wanna go with you. I've studied the stars--spoken with philosophers-- and I have the gift of prophecy. I can be very valuable to you. Take me with you. I want so much to be like you."
X: "And I want to be like you."

"One Against an Army" always gets to me.
Hmmm... Looks like dialog is too easy. Besides, I don't have much dialog stored here -- but fanfic! I got TONS o' that!
My next one will be from the story that got me hooked on fanfic. That story should be required reading IMHO.
Now all I gotta do is ... uhhh ... do it.
It will be up tomorrow.

If my internet connection will hold long enough for me to post, here is the next cryptogram. It's a quote used within a classic fanfic tale generally regarded as one of the all-time greats. Bonus mega giga points for naming the story and author.

Gather your lyre and sing with me as desire once again enhances your beauty. Your dress excites and I rejoice for I once doubted Aphrodite. But now I believe that soon you will be with me again.
Sappho
No mega giga bonus points though.

You got it!
I found a website that has transliterations of every surviving Sappho fragment. She was a true creative genius and innovator. But that's not where I got the quote.
"A Bard Day's Night" by DJWP -- required reading. (And all her stories are that good IMHO.)
Maybe cryptograms are not enough of a challenge. Would anyone like a transposition cypher?

That would not be fair of me. I consider myself properly chastised!
So solve the quote and name the episode:

So nobody else is going to give this a shot? This is all coming back to me. I used to do these things reading the morning paper over coffee before work - only they were called Cryptoquips and a clue was provided. That was way back when; pre-kids, when I actually got a morning paper, had time to read it, and actually finish a cup of coffee before it grew cold.
"It's not about me, it's about these people. That's why we're here. People like this used to be my victims. I keep that in mind every time we come up against a warlord like Talmadeus. It's the Greater Good. Remember that."
Xena.
in..uhm..the Greater Good?

She is spitting at me again........you know, I'm gonna have to report you if you don't stop. The sanitary police or something. And I'm betting you got this all figured out already.

Post by Phalon on Jan 3, 2005 0:45:37 GMT -6
I AM NOT spitting, dang it. A small little whisper is all. And no, I haven't really tried. A quick glance and I'm guessing the S's are L's making the Z's I's, which would leave the X's to be A's. You figure it out and let me know if I'm right.

No, really, I'm just guessing, but at first glance it seems right. Maybe I'll get around to this tomorrow, during nap-time. Uhm...that would be the little one's naptime and not mine.

Forty percent of written English is accomplished with only seven letters. Only two letters stand alone as proper words. If you want a free letter, it will cost you a chocolate chip cookie. ;D

Sigh...how many times to I need to warn people here about Scrappy's cookies? Scrappy, you need to stop, or soon the board will be devoid of all posters; the empty halls echoing with the wake-the-dead snores from the victims of your chocolate chip cookies.
Guru, turn and walk away from that plate she's offering. Trust me.
Ok...a cup of coffee and a bit of free time, and I'm going in.

Did you do this, btw? The puzzle, I mean.
