Here is where you can give us the lowdown on the mystical/magical beings you've brought to the story. Give background details, descriptions/images, links to more info, etc.
Any info you'd rather readers weren't privy to can be posted on the Bard's Workshop Board.
Rules for Monsters, Creatures, Supernaturals, Murderers, etc.:
The 'Hunters' cannot lose control unless they're confined to, or contained within, a restricted area. (Such as the Zombies on "Zombie Island.") Otherwise they'll go after the locals ... and the locals are _hands off_ ... the locals have made a deal, and all the 'Hunters' have to abide by that deal. As long as the locals feel that they and their families are safe, they're gonna play nice, but if they find that the deal has no merit, they're gonna band together and take back their town. We don't want that happening so soon. We want Merry Land to continue with the deal for a long, long time to come.
The 'Hunters' cannot breed or infect at rampant rates either, unless they're confined and their death rate is high. Otherwise they'd take over the town, and the locals would feel the need to take the town back. The 'Hunters' need limits as to how they pass on their genes, or infect others. They have to live among the locals, and they have to do their best to get along with them. The 'Hunters' have to play nice with the locals just as much as the locals have to play nice with them.
Of course, neither side likes that very much, but there ya go.
As for the rules: they can be thought of more as 'guidelines' ... which means that _exceptions_ are allowed. However, you need a reason to 'break/stretch' the rules. For instance: in some stories, vampires cannot go out into the sun, and in other stories they can ... so I set it up so that bards who want their vampire to be able to go out in daylight can, and bards that don't want their vampires to go out in the daylight can't. (Not without a charm/lotion/potion.)
So, if you want your creature or mystical/magical supernatural being to do something that is against the rules I've set, or against the rules some other bard has set for their character/s, you need to have a reason, a spell, a virus, an allergic reaction, a damaged/malformed gene, or some other fluke cause of some kind, etc.. See, the locals must feel safe, and they can't feel like they're becoming a minority ... or even prey. Keeping the locals happy helps keep them from wavering on their end of the deal. Don't make them rethink their part of the bargain.

Zombies are created from a virus found in the saliva of certain types of supernaturals/creatures, their bites only effect a select few of the human population. (20%) The odds of surviving a Zombie bite without becoming a Zombie is 30%. Zombies are still alive, but their bodies are breaking down and beginning to decay/rot. (Think: Leprosy, hardening of the arteries, Alzheimers; kind of, sort of.) The Zombie virus affects muscles, nerves, the blood, and the brain.
Zombies need to constantly feed in order to slow down the effects of the virus. And to remain at their optimal performance levels. (Think: every 2 to 4 hours.) They need to consume the blood, muscle, nerves, and brains of healthy, living mammals. Zombies are killed pretty much like any normal human, except their bodies are able to seal off opened blood vessels, and in some cases the open wounds can close up and the broken/cut flesh, blood vessels and nerves can reconnect/reattach themselves. (Think: minor injuries. Nothing major. Nothing cauterized. Incapable of regeneration. Once it's gone, it's gone.)
Newly-made Zombies are as quick & smart or slow & dumb as the humans they once were. Time, wounds, and lack of sustenance can lead to their slow and gradual disintegration ... provided they can survive counteractive measures from non-infected humans.
Zombies are driven by their hunger, and the longer they go without feeding, the less efficient they become. Their minds and bodies begin to break down and they continue to rot until they become a pile of slimy goo. Even then they are contagious and need to be disposed of in the same manner as any other bio hazard.
Zombies cannot go into the ocean. The sea salt burns their skin the way sunlight burns the skin of vampires. Actually any large amounts of saltwater will burn the skin of zombies.

Weres & Shifters:
Only a were/shifter can beget another were/shifter, and only with someone who carries the were/shifter gene. Which means, at least one parent must be a were/shifter, and the other parent must be born of at least one were/shifter parent. If one parent does not have a were/shifter gene, the couple cannot have a were/shifter child, but their children can carry the gene. And if those children have a child with a full or half blood, the rules below apply.
Full Blooded- Can change at will, (24/7), throughout the whole month.
- Is the 1st, 7th, or 14th child born of two full blooded/shifting parents.
- Parents are the same breed of were/shifter. Both parents can shift.
Half Blooded- Can change at will, (limited amount of time), throughout the whole month.
- Is the 1st, 7th, or 14th child born of one shifting parent and one non-shifting parent. The non-shifting parent is not the 1st, 7th, or 14th child born to two full blooded, shifting parents. But does carry the gene. --Both of the non-shifting parent's parents are of the same breed of were/shifter, and both can shift.
Cross breeding- The father's breed is the dominate breed.
- All other rules apply. Such as, if both parents can sift, the 'special' children will have the same shifting abilities as a Full Blood, and if only one parent can shift, the 'special' children will have the same shifting abilities as a Half Blood.
- The weaker the gene-pool: the less control one has in shifting, and the less time one can spend as an animal.
- The children born to a were/shifter and a human cannot shift, even though they have the gene, and can pass it on.
Created Weres/Shifters- Can change at will only on the day & night of the First Quartered, Last Quartered, Full and New Moon of each month.
- Must be bitten/scratched multiple times in order to become infected. (Each bite/scratch intensifies the growth of the infection.)
- Do not carry the gene/infection, and cannot pass it on to others.
- Their children will not inherit the affliction from them.
All weres/shifters maintain their faculties while in animal form, unless bitten by a creature that passes along the zombie virus to them. The zombie virus turns the animal into a raving, rabid killer, and prevents it from becoming human ever again. Once this happens the animal has to be put down asap. Big game hunters pay top dollar to hunt them down and kill them. This sport takes place on a second well guarded and confined island. (The zombie virus only takes effect once the human transforms into an animal.)
No shifts can take place during the months of two full moons. (December 2009)

Vampires cannot go out during the day unless they're in the possession of a charm that protects them from the sun. The charm can be an object, mixture of dry/wet ingredients or a potion. (ring, necklace, cream/lotion, elixir, pouch, etc.) The charm is something that can be worn, carried, eaten/swallowed, or applied. (vampire sunscreen )
They cannot enter a private home or establishment unless invited in by owners/inhabitants, and then must leave when the invitation is rescinded. They have the ability to glamor. (Works on most, but exceptions can be made.) Strengths, weaknesses, and powers can vary from vampire to vampire. A victim's fear gives a vampire power over them, but a victim's faith acts as a shield, protecting them from a vampire. (So, holy objects, garlic, etc. only work if the one using them believes they will, otherwise they won't.) Once a vampire is invited into a private home/establishment, they are immune to the people and things within that private home/establishment until the invitation is revoked.
They have a reflection in mirrors, and photos can be taken of them, as long as they're in possession of a charm. Their blood is healing to most, but can be poisonous to some. The brain or heart are the only targets that can kill them. They don't bleed out from wounds, and if the brain/heart isn't severely damaged, it is able to regenerate. Some diseases can affect them when they drink from an infected host. Those effects depend on the disease, on the vampire's immunity system, and on their weakness/strength levels at the time.
Created vampires cannot be made by bites alone. In order to become a vampire, a human must be drained until almost dead, and then feed from the vampire in order to return their blood volume back to normal. The transformation takes three days/nights.

Lycans are an entirely different breed of animal to the weres/shifters. They are half man/half wolf beasts that crave the kill far more intensely than their counterparts. The older, more experienced, lycans are able to maintain control while in beast form, the newer, younger, lycans have more difficulty though. The new, young, lycans learn through trial and error if not trained properly by an older, more experienced, lycan.
Once bitten, a person has until the next full moon to find a way to reverse/eliminate the effects that will turn them into a lycan. The cure can be something that is eaten or drank, etc. A charm/potion/lotion etc. can be used as a defense to ward off lycans. All locals know how to defend themselves and their families from the vermin that have lain claim to the town.
All lycans have a much harder time controlling themselves during the months with two full moons. (December 2009) During those months, the lycans who lose control are either strapped up/down each night, or they are taken into captivity for the duration of that month. (Hunter's Moon Island.)

These are communal characters:
Name: Anne Bonny Age: 21
Anne Bonny was a daughter of attorney William Cormac and his maidservant.
When Bonny was 13, she supposedly stabbed a servant girl in the stomach with a table knife. She married a sailor and small-time pirate named James Bonny. According to legend, James Bonny hoped to win possession of his wife's family estate, but she was disowned by her father.
She and James Bonny moved to Nassau, on New Providence Island in the Bahamas, which was then a pirate hub and base for many pirate operations. After the arrival of Governor Woodes Rogers, James Bonny became an informant for the governor.
While in the Bahamas, Anne Bonny began mingling with pirates at the local drinking establishments, and met the pirate John "Calico Jack" Rackham, with whom she had an affair. James dragged Anne before Gov. Rogers to demand she be flogged for adultery and returned to him. There was even an offer for Rackham to buy her in a divorce-by-purchase, but Anne refused to be "bought and sold like cattle." She was sentenced to the flogging, but later Anne and Rackham escaped to live together as pirates.

Name: Calico Jack Age: 36
Calico Jack was an English pirate captain during the early 18th century. His nickname was derived from the calico clothing he wore.
John "Calico Jack" Rackham is most remembered for two things: (1) the design of his Jolly Roger flag; and (2) employing two of the most notorious female pirates of the age as part of his crew – Mary Read and Anne Bonny (the latter of whom he had whisked away from her husband).
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Rackham www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=13279407
Name: Mary Read Age: 28
Mary Read was illegitimately born in England, in the late 17th century, to the widow of a sea captain.
Read's mother began to disguise illegitimately born Mary as a boy after the death of Mary's older, legitimate brother (name unknown). This was done in order to continue to receive financial support from his paternal grandmother. The grandmother was apparently fooled, and Read and her mother lived on the inheritance into her teenage years.

Werepyres are a mixed species. They are part were/shifter or lycan and part vampire. Any creature that carries or survives the virus that causes Zombism can reproduce or create a mixed species. So, if a virus-carrying vampire turns any were/shifter or lycan, whose DNA has been restructured by the virus, that were/shifter or lycan can become both a were/shifter/lycan and a vampire. And any altered were/shifter or lycan that turns a vampire who has the virus can turn that vamp into a mixed species. Vampires that carry the virus can also reproduce with any were/shifter or lycan whose DNA has been altered by the virus. Mixed species are not reproduced any other way.
Most of the rules for these creatures is still the same. If a were/shifter or lycan first, they can go out into the sunlight without a charm. If a vampire first, they can only go out into the sunlight with a charm. If two altered were/shifters mate, every other child is a were/shifter. Their children also have restructured DNA.
Children born mixed have two different qualities. Those born to living mothers have heartbeats, and those born to dead mothers do not. Those with heartbeats can go out into the sun unaided, but those without heartbeats need a charm.
Normally, a vampire must drain their victim to the point of death and have that victim drink their blood in order to turn them into a vampire. But infected vamps can turn victims by biting them and exposing the victim to just a tiny drop of their blood ... and should that victim die before that drop of blood has had time to evaporate from their system, they turn into a vampire. Except for altered weres/shifters and lycans. They don't need to die in order to turn into a mixed species. And they don't die ... their hearts continue to beat. When they do die, they become full virus-carrying vamps, and can no longer go out into the sun unaided.
Altered weres/shifters and lycans also turn virus-carrying vampires into a mixed species the same way ... by biting the vampire and exposing the vampire to their own blood. If both bite each other, then both become a mixed species. But if only one bites the other and then somehow exposes them to their own blood, the one becomes the mixed species.
Have I lost ya?
So, an infected vamp bites an altered were/shifter or lycan, and somehow the bitten were/shifter or lycan gets a taste of the vamp's blood ... but not by biting the vampire back ... only the were/shifter or lycan becomes mixed. Say they fought, and the vampire was injured and some blood got into the were/shifter or lycans' mouth. And vise versa, an altered were/shifter or lycan bites a virus-infected vamp and the vamp gets a taste of the were/shifter or lycans' blood during a fight ... but not from biting the were/shifter or lycan back ... only that vampire becomes mixed.
A mixed species is created when one is exposed to both saliva and blood of the other. So, if both bite each other during a fight, both become mixed. And one must be a carrier of the virus, the other a survivor of the virus, in order to become mixed.
Yeah, yeah, I'm repeating myself. Just trying to make it clear as to the point I'm trying to make.
Now ... weres/shifters and Lycans are different breeds. Weres/Shifters become actual animals ... while Lycans become half-man, half-wolf. Being a Werepyre mix does not change this fact.
Edited to add: That if, after a were/shifter or Lycan 'Werepyre' dies and becomes a full virus-carrying vampire ... it can become a 'Werepyre' once again by being bitten and exposed to the biter's blood ... the 'biter' being an altered Were/Shifter or Lycan. *see rules above*
