I became a xenite last year and this year i got the first four seasons. Two weeks ago, i downloaded the last ever episode. I thought it was really good but it did not shock me as i had read that Xena would die. I thought it was quite sad.
What did you guys think of the finale?

I had mixed emotions for it, I thought it OK for Xena to die and to pass the Chakram onto Gabrielle, but didn't approve of the way she died.
But all that said and done I have a theory... You know at the end of "When Fates Collide" they're all misty looking and confused... Well thats because their "Fate" gets reset (since the loom of the Fates is now gone and all) so that everything after the crucifiction never happens and Xena never dies in Japan.... Just a thought or a maybe even a Hope.

At first I was a wee bit upset, but then I started watching some of the earlier eps and that helped get me out of the glum feeling. As far as the ep goes, it was fine. I just wasn't ready to see Xena die. I would have loved it better if it had been a season ender instead of a series ender. Of course I should have known they had plans to bring her back in movies. I think there were plans for around four, but then it became one, and who knows if it will ever get made. At this point I really don't care if one is. Although I will watch it if it is made.

When i read she had died, i thought it was stupid. But after seeing it, i had changed my view. I'm glad Gabby took on her trusty chankram.

Tho I understand the passing of the Chankram idea, I just dont care for it =P
They are a pair in my opinion, Xena is like superman or Spiderman to me, heros that you just dont get rid of. I suppose my biggest complaint is that I respect the series, and in the series Xena dies in Japan, thats it, theres nothing after that, so its hard for me to enjoy any fan stories that take place after cause in the back of my mind I remember shes dead in the series.
And come on, Xena should not die in fricken Japan. She needed an epic battle in Greece to save the world, or a final battle against Ares.....not go run off into an army to get killed. What was the point? The only way to find salvation and forgiveness is to go get yourself killed? What kind of message is that? Why cant Xena be forgiven for her past with deeds and not her death.

I cry every time I watch the last ep. I have every Xena D.V.D. the 10th edition, and the cartoon "Battle for Mt.Olmpys. I would love if someone figured out how to bring Xena back.

Because Xena as cancelled, they never had enough time to do a proper finale. But i agree, she could of died somewhere else and for a different cause.

Xena was cancelled in October 2000. The finale aired in June 2001 (filmed in March/April).
They had plenty of time to work on it. However, they fooled around with an episode (the musical) that was canned and that took away from spending time on the finale.
Not my words, Rob Tapert's words.

Oh, i see. Maybe that's why the finale did not seem to be worked on enough.

I liked the finale in and of itself - if it were a movie, and not an ending to this series. There were inconsistencies with the rest of the series that didn't set right, and I would have preferred, even if Xena was still killed, that it would have happened on home ground: Greece, with some of the characters present that we got to know over the years.
Ah, but every 'once upon a time' does not have a happy ending.....though it would have been nice.

Yes I also agree, it would have been nice for her to die at "home" instead of far away. If they wanted that to be the last "wrong" she had to right they could have had her do that with a different ending and then come back to die a different way.

Still gnashing my teeth over that finale, not very well done at all in my humble opinion, would have preferred to see them simply wander off into the sunset together.

Pissed me off to, she buried her armor in Japan, and throws herself to die to this army (Is this the same Xena that DEFEATED a whole army by herself -One against an Army- ring a bell?) for what? breathing fire on a few huts when she was half drunk and under attack? come on
They could have done so much better, if she was gonna die. It should have been in a fight to the death against some thing or some one very powerful or evil. Forgiveness is only fround in death? Thats so harsh.
What about Eve? Her Daughter was saved, why not her?

Katherine Fugate wrote the Episode "When Fates Collide" and she is also writing the script for the Xena Movie (if it ever gets made) So maybe Katherine can resolve the Japan thing in the movie perhaps too?

That is an interesting theory. They did look rather dazed and confused when they saw each other at the end.

I dont care if its a made for DvD movie, gives us SOMETHING. If they can give Farscape a good ending they can for Xena.

I was not happy with A Friend In Need , I hated the fact it was set in Japan, so many of the characters we came to know, love &/or hate were not in it . I would have liked to have seen A Friend In Need as a two (2) parter, ending with Xena being brought back to life & Gabby a full warrior, from there, end the show with When Fates Collide. There could have even been a few more shows written addressing Gabby as a full warrior equal with Xena. Battle On Amazon Tigris

I've always thought that Ides of March would have been an excellent way to end the series. Not only was it a fitting conclusion to the whole Xena/Cesear story arc, but the scene in which Xena and Gabrielle die and join together as angels was very touching and would have been a very beautiful series send off. Of course if they ended the series there, we would not have had seasons 5 and 6. But it seems to me that the show seemed to go downhill in terms of writing and story telling about midway in season five all the way through the sixth. Sometimes it's better to end a show early in it's run while it's still on a high note producing top notch writing then have it go on for a few more years and have it gradually diminish in quality.

I honestly quite liked seasons 5 & 6, I dont know why so many dont like them.... It was just a shame that we did loose so many great characters we all came to know and love.
I really loved the ep "God fearing child" but would of liked to have had some more of Hercules after their 25 yr sleep to see what he had got upto. As with some of other characters after that too. (Autolycus, Tara, Draco) Also what doesn't sit right is that Xena doesn't even mention her living brother, Toris, again except to say:"I miss them sometimes..." in Old Ares had a farm.
I think the last 4 episodes in season 5 are must sees tho; very dramatic and well acted and written!!!. The valkyrie storylines in season 6 were GREAT, and seeing Ares and Xena interactions after everything they'd been through really gets to you.
But I still dont like like how Xena herself died, and would like to think that their Fates do get reset so they can continue with their adventures.

The reason I didn't much care for the later half of season five and season six was because I felt that they were focusing too much on the whole soulmate issue and Xena herself became kinda boring when the writers turned her into superXena. They seemed to make Xena so powerful that she could defeat anyone and anything.

I heard Xena went downhill from Season 4 onwards Is that true? I only have the first four seasons and have only seen them so far. Season 4 did have weak episodes.

Seasons 5 & 6 also have weak episodes . . . but they have some really good ones too. If you don't get Oxygen or Logo, you can rent the seasons from your local DVD rental store. (Here in the US, I don't now about other countries though.)
