Hello, fellow Whoosh-ites. I haven't been here in ages, but I think one or two of you may remember my name. Anyway, I am looking for advice on Gabby costumes. I would like to go to dragon con in costume. I've never been to dragon con, so I don't really know what I'm getting into, and also I think I'd have to make my own costume... can't find any pieces anywhere. What might be the easiest costume to re-create? I only have a month, of course. (oops) Any ideas? ETA: If any one knows the length of the actual sai that they used for her for the show, that would be great info! I'm the same height, so, should work for me. Thanks for any advice! Senara

And you might be? Welcome back.
I know the Gabrielle costume question has been made a a few times. Here, and at the other Whoosh board. Not sure if the links in them still work though. Give me a sec. ... doing a drill.
Okay. Tom's Costumes is still open for business. Try Here. I think it would be cheaper to make your own though. You can go through patterns and find ones that are closest to the Gabrielle costume you like.
This site might be useful.

BTW: I would think that the sari would be the easiest outfit to copy. As for the skirts, they're somewhat like a scooter-skirt, or a skort. I've always called it a scooter-skirt, only learned about skort when doing a search a few years ago. I wore these to school as a young girl because we weren't allowed to wear pants/shorts. We could only wear skirts and dresses. Hanging upside down from the monkey bars should have been more than enough evidence that little girls should have been allowed to wear pants/shorts. I wore koolox too. They're the dress version of a skort, where the top and skort are joined. And my skooter-skirts were more like shorts with a front and back flap to hide the split between the legs.

Ooh thank you! Great information to start my efforts. I do wonder if anyone around now would remember my name. I actually had unopened mail from 2005! Very nice to see the boards still here.

Hhmmmm, I dunno, but it sounds vaguely familiar. Scrabble, anyone? And there was a strange dream that needed interpretation. Just kidding. Senara! How the heck are you? Doing well, I hope. To answer your question, I think Gabrielle's green sports bra ensemble would be the easiest to make. Do you sew? No matter if you don't; the skirt/short/skort thingie looks as if it's just a wrap-around piece of material, artfully gathered so the folds hang just right. home.flash.net/~tmoore1/xena/cost.gabseason2.JPGAnd as far as easability in the making, the green outfit is accessorized by the staff - which is easier to make/find than the sai. Here's a list of every outfit Gabrielle (and Xena too) wore during the series, seasons one - five, with links to photos. home.flash.net/~tmoore1/xena/xc.htmlGood luck! Let us know which you choose, and how it turns out.

Phalon!!!! *tackle hugs* I can't believe you even remember the dream thing!!
Thank you so much for the links! I was thinking that I need to do something from season 5 or 6, as my hair has grown out for a year from very short, so it's just down to my shoulders and layered pretty well. Honestly I need to lose 20 pounds... Grr. As much as I hate to bring up FIN around here, I do really love the outfit in Japan (blue top, dragonfly pants, and hello tattoo!). I love love love the red outfit that Gabby sails of into the sunset with too (last regular outfit).
I think I'll make a deal with myself - lose weight and I can acquire a Gabby wardrobe! LOL
Phalon, I'm so glad you are still here!!!

I'm Senara; I've always been Senara. I came around in, 2002 maybe? I actually came out (yes, with rainbows) when we were on the proboards and Oxygen would do the chat thing where we could see our comments on TV during the episodes. Some of these people here really helped me survive the first few months of realizing I was a lesbian. I may not have been around lately, but I never forgot that this was a safe place for me. *settles back in* I've missed you guys! I hope to see some more familiar names. I do remember you, Phalon and Joxenia... I need to poke around and see if Evergreen and lolapunk and lilpunkin and all those guys are here... *wanders off*

Sorry, I was teasing you. I didn't know if you knew I was also Mini-Mia now, so logged in as Joxcee to pull your leg a bit. Evergreen can't get into her account just yet. She posted on the Open House guesthouse board, and we've emailed each other, but she hasn't managed to get back on here. Lolapunk does drop in from time to time, and Gabbin posted a wee bit ago. Lilpunkin hasn't been on in quite some time. She may lurk though. I'm guessing maybe a bunch of the old O2ers do.
Welcome back. Glad some of us are still here to greet your homecoming. Have a look around and join in wherever you'd like.

I thought this query seemed 'deja vu' ... there's a thread about this topic on page 2. Gonna bump it to the top.
