I read an interesting blog the other day with what I thought was a very cool idea. Instead of making New Year's resolutions which always seem to be broken (which is why I don't make them; I seem to spend more time making them than actually keeping them), the writer chooses just one word to represent what she wants to accomplish in the new year. In the past, her words have been "trust", "true", "listen", and this year "generous".
I like the idea, and didn't have a difficult time choosing just one word. "Energy" is my word to live by for 2011.
Energy: 1.) a dynamic quality; having the capacity to be active. 2.) a vigorous exertion of power: effort. 3.) the capacity for doing work. 4.) usable power, or the resources for producing such power.
I'd like to get to bed earlier so I have the energy to accomplish what I set out to do.
I want to conserve more energy for environmental reasons, not only in the form of using less electricity, but in other ways too: recycling more than we already do, being more diligent in taking my cloth bags to the grocery instead of using the store's plastic bags, and get an earlier start so I can walk more errands instead of hopping in the car (this is going to be a tough one, because I'm always running late).
There is a community project I want to start in lines with the above; if I can pull it off, it will put a fairly decent sized dent in the energy our town uses which is currently not reusable. I want to strive to have the energy to follow through with my idea.
I'd like to spend less energy thinking about what I want to do, and put more energy into actually doing it.
Anyone else? If you had to choose just a single word, is there one that stands out in your mind as one that encompasses how you'd like to live in the New Year?
