Been watching season 6 and just viewed To Helicon and Back. Does anyone else find Varia as disagreeable as I do? Not enough that she is hot-tempered and impulsive she is always screwing up, making the same mistakes in judgment. Says its about wanting whats best for the Amazons but more like its about her ego. Sndf the disrepectful way she treats Gabby and Xena after all the times they pulled her out a jam. And like someone on another board said-"get some clothes on girl!" She is no Cyane,Melosa, Ephiny, or even Amarice. And her plot with Bellerophon to kill Gabrielle showed just how selfish and thoughtless she was. She certainly deserved to be stripped of her queenhood like Gabby did. Gabriellle spared her life despite her treachery, but she needed to face additional punishment. Quite frankly, I would have liked to have seen Xena turn her over her knee and give her a good oldfashioned spanking! A sound paddling for being the brat that she was.

lol, yeah, she deserved some punishment. i don't think the network would have liked it if xena had taken her over her knee and spanked her, though.

You may be right about the networks- but don't suppose they objected to the slap Joxer gave Gabrielle on the bottom in Married With Fishsticks.I thought'"what nerve-what a jerk"-he wouldnt have dared do that except she had lost her memory. IMO, that is the worst ep of all, one I will not rewatch. Smell of Dead Fishsticks would have been a better title.

That was a great segment, especially when Aphrodite filled Discord's mouth full of soap! Joxer at his most obnoxious-like when he rushed in yelling and woke up Baby Eve. And his fantasies in Gabrielle's dream while she was unconscioness. Never liked Ares very much for the way he pursued Xena-but had some respect for him. But Joxer- reminded me of the guy who tries to peek into the girls' locker room, everytime he thought he had a chance at Gabrielle. Didnt like that Livia/Eve killled him, but not a favorite character of mine.

lol, my favorite insult was actually at the end of that episode. "aren't you late for your delousing?" lmao. but the rest of that episode was horrible. seriously, what were they smoking? and you can tell Renee was uncomfortable with some of the things she had to do in that episode. then again, all good shows have at least one episode that never should have been written.

Back to Varia, the original topic Anyone notice a resemblance between Melosa and Varia? Just watched Hooves and Harlots again and was struck by the similarity. 25 years-enough time for a daughter of Melosa to be an adult-just a speculation. Besides the physical resemblance, some of the same personality. Melosa refused to believe the proof Xena returned with that showed Phantes did not kill Terreis. Instead she threatened Gabrielle and Ephiny with execution for treason. Luckily Xena defeated her in a great chobo battle scene. I do think she sounded sincere in the scene where the peace was made with the centaurs. I wonder if Varia ever achieved level of maturity-maybe if the show had continued..

i seriously doubt varia ever matured like melosa did. her personality was the problem there, while melosa's problem was just her beliefs. beliefs can be changed with enough evidence. it's kinda hard to change personalities without something huge happening. 'course, that's just my opinion.

Varia losing her sister is what made her what she is. She'd need to have something major happen to return her to her old self. Varia and Callisto have a lot in common. Both were good people who lost those they loved dearly. Callisto let it destroy her, but Varia somehow managed not to go to that extreme. Callisto found redemption in Xena's sacrifice, and Varia most likely needed something similar from Livia in order to heal. She needed to believe that Eve was deeply sorry, and she needed to see Eve punished in some way. She needed to allow herself to turn loose of her grief, and to forgive herself and Livia for the past. She needed to come to terms with the fact that she must live on without her sister. She must let the hurt and revenge go. She needed to allow herself to heal without feeling guilty that she was letting her sister down. Until she did that, she would never be able to change.

"There’s only one way to end this cycle of hatred, and it’s through love... and forgiveness." if Varia ever understood that, she might change. otherwise, i seriously doubt she would.

It did look like she had learned and matured at the end of Path of Vengeance-but in To Helicon and Back, reverted to her old ways, maybe even worse with her betrayal and attempt on Gabrielle's life. Yet, hesitate to say she was actually evil but very lacking in judgment and seeing the end justifying the means, not looking ahead to the consequences of her actions. Like to think she was learning and growing-but the show ending meant we never knew.
