Flash Elton John
Don't close the shades I'm scared of the darkness I'm cold as a razor blade Inches from madness
Don't let me sleep here They're all trying to kill me I've seen the walls moving They've all heard me screaming, screaming
Feed me Feed my needs and then just leave me Let me go back where you found me `Cause I miss my basement The sweet smell of new paint The warmth and the comforts of home So feed me Give me my treatment and free me My arms are so hungry so feed me
The room's so distorted And filled with mad shadows I feel like a carcass White like a marrow bone
It all seems so long ago I remember them laughing I heard the ambulance scream I saw the red light flashing, flashing

Got a wife and kids in Baltimore, Jack I went out for a ride and I never went back Like a river that don't know where it's flowing I took a wrong turn and I just kept going
(Chorus) Everybody's got a HUNGRY heart Everybody's got a hungry heart Lay down your money and you play your part Everybody's got a hungry heart
I met her in a Kingstown bar We fell in love I knew it had to end We took what we had and we RIPPED it apart Now here I am down in Kingstone again
(Chorus)
Everybody needs a place to rest Everybody wants to have a home Don't make no difference what nobody says Ain't nobody like to be alone

Chinese Cafe/unchained Melody - Indigo Girls Caught in the middle Carol, we’re middle class We’re middle aged We were wild in the old days Birth of rock ’n roll days Now your kids are coming up straight And my child’s a stranger I bore her But, I could not raise her Nothing lasts for long-- Nothing lasts for long-- Nothing lasts for long-- Down at the chinese cafe We’d be dreaming on our dimes We’d be playing-- Oh my love, my darling One more time
Uranium money Is booming in the old home town now It’s putting up sleek concrete Tearing the old landmarks down now Paving over brave little parks Ripping off indian land again How long--how long Short sighted business men Ah, nothing lasts for long-- Nothing lasts for long-- Nothing lasts for long-- Down at the chinese cafe We’d be dreaming on our dimes We’d be playing-- You give your love, so sweetly One more time
Christmas is sparkling Out on carol’s lawn This girl of my childhood games With kids nearly grown and gone Grown so fast Like the turn of a page We look like our mothers did now When we were those kids’ age Nothing lasts for long-- Nothing lasts for long-- Nothing lasts for long-- Down at the chinese cafe We’d be dreaming on our dimes We’d be playing-- Oh my love, my darling I’ve hungered for your touch A long lonely time And time goes by so slowly And time can do so much Are you still mine? I need your love I need your love God speed your love to me. (time goes--where does the time go-- I wonder where the time goes. . .) sparkling

Horse With No Name ~ America
"...After nine days I let the horse run free 'cause the desert had turned to sea There were plants and birds and rocks and things There was sand and hills and rings The ocean is a desert with it's life underground And a perfect disguise above Under the cities lies a heart made of ground But the humans will give no love
You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert you can remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la...."

Bob Seger - Old Time Rock & Roll
Just take those old records off the shelf I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself Today's music aint got the same soul I like that old time rock 'n' roll Don't try to take me to a disco You'll never even get me out on the floor In ten minutes I'll be late for the door I like that old time rock'n' roll
Still like that old time rock'n' roll That kind of music just soothes the soul I reminisce about the days of old With that old time rock 'n' roll Won't go to hear them play a tango I'd rather hear some blues or funky old soul There's only sure way to get me to go Start playing old time rock 'n' roll

Don't Think Twice - Bob Dylan (though it's playing in my head with Joan Baez & the Indigo Girls)
It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe It don't matter, anyhow An' it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe If you don't know by now When your ROOSTER crows at the break of dawn Look out your window and I'll be gone You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on Don't think twice, it's all right
It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe That light I never knowed An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe I'm on the dark side of the road Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say To try and make me change my mind and stay We never did too much talkin' anyway So don't think twice, it's all right
It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal Like you never did before It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal I can't hear you any more I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin' all the way down the road I once loved a woman, a child I'm told I give her my heart but she wanted my SOUL But don't think twice, it's all right
I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe Where I'm bound, I can't tell But goodbye's too good a word, gal So I'll just say fare thee well I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind You could have done better but I don't mind You just kinda wasted my precious time But don't think twice, it's all right

Ha, say that real fast, even once... and I think it's been years since I posted this much in one day. This is a band, that if I remember right, had no guitars, only percussion. Dang, I can't say it once slowly...maybe I should stick to Doctor Lola, l-o-l-a, lola.... Mariane Faithfull did somethng like this on her Strong Poision CD. On "Child of Mine," she used her voice and the lyrics as the bassline and went from there. Sweet. Bohemian Rhapsody Queen Is this the real life- Is this just fantasy- Caught in a landslide- No escape from reality- Open your eyes Look up to the skies and see- I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy- Because I'm easy come, easy go, A little high, little low, Anyway the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me, To me Mama, just killed a man, Put a gun against his head, Pulled my trigger, now he's dead, Mama, life had just begun, But now I've gone and thrown it all away- Mama ooo, Didn't mean to make you cry- If I'm not back again this time tomorrow- Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters- trigger Maeve

I'm leavin' my fam'ly Leavin' all my friends My body's at home But my heart's in the wind Where the clouds are like headlines On a new front page sky My tears are salt water And the moon's full and high
And I know Martin Eden's Gonna be proud of me And many before me Who've been called by the sea To be up in the crow's nest Singin' my say Shiver me Timbers 'Cause I'm a-sailin' away
And the fog's liftin' And the sand's shiftin' I'm driftin' on out Ol' Captain Ahab He ain't got nothin' on me, now. So swallow me, don't follow me I'm trav'lin' alone Blue water's my daughter 'n I'm gonna skip like a stone

Siren......the first time I ever heard that Whisky Lullaby song....I cried like a baby. I haven't been able to listen to it since....
... & The Mouse Police Never Sleeps - Jethro Tull Muscled, black with steel-green eye Swishing through the rye grass With thoughts of mouse-and-apple pie. Tail balancing at half-mast. ...and the mouse police never sleeps --- Lying in the cherry tree. Savage bed foot-warmer of purest feline ancestry. Look out, little furry folk! He’s the all-night working cat. Eats but one in every ten --- Leaves the others on the mat. ...and the mouse police never sleeps --- Waiting by the cellar door. Window-box town crier; Birth and death registrar. With claws that rake a furrow red --- Licensed to multilate. From warm milk on a lazy day To dawn patrol on hungry hate. ...no, the mouse police never sleeps --- Climbing on the ivy. Windy roof-top weathercock. Warm-blooded night on a cold tile. Swishing

I'm with you, Scrap. It is a very moving song. And the plaintive voice of our Alison certainly adds to the drama. And that Tull song is a trip! "Eats but one in every ten --- Leaves the others on the mat." That is SO my cat! Boll!
Thank you, Maeve. I love Merle Haggard so. And that song is one of his very best. A shame that it's associated with Christmas, so that you usually only hear it during the holidays. And leave it to Merle to find a way to make Christmas depressing! But then, it is for many families. As usual, Merle writes and sings for the working man.

Bought you a SILK gown and PERFUME today, Picked up some roses and champagne on the way. Oh I called to ask you to put some soft music on, Cause if you're thinking you want a stranger, There's one coming home.
If you're thinking you want a stranger, I'll soon be there You're gonna see a change in me, This time I swear. No more late nights, coming in at daylight, And no more doing you wrong, Cause if you're thinking you want a stranger, There's one coming home

Marathon Kiss a duet sung by Marianne Faithfull and Emmylou Harris
I cherish the night of your marathon kiss, Chemicals flying, oh I love this. What's it all for if you can't feel the ecstasy ? What's it all for if you can't touch the power, The will to live in the hour?
Don't steal what I have got, baby, 'Cause it's hardly enough for myself. Don't steal what I've got, baby, 'Cause the balance is thin like a shell.
I cherish the night of your marathon kiss, Chemicals flying, oh I love this. What's it all for if you can't feel the moment ? What's it all for if you can't feel the moment, The moment of kiss.
Fearless when I'm with you, Fearless when I'm with you. Fearless when I'm with you, Fearless through and through.
What am I gonna wear ? I don't care. Nobody sees the inside. Oh, the radio's gonna take us out Take us out on a ride. I put on perfume and I walk in the room The world stands still with you in the room. I cross the floor and I'm high and I'm rich When I'm under your lips and your fingertips.
I cherish the night of your marathon kiss, Chemicals flying into the mist. What's it all for if you can't feel the moment ? What's it all for if you can't feel the power ? What's it all for if you can't, can't live right here In the hour, in the hour, in the hour ?
Fearless when I'm with you, Fearless when I'm with you. Fearless when I'm with you, Fearless through and through.

Lol! That's fun, Maeve.
And it gives me the chance to quote a gorgeous lyric, written by Hoagy Carmichael:
And now the purple DUSK of twilight time Steals across the MEADOWS of my heart High up in the sky the little stars climb Always reminding me that we're apart
You wander down the lane and far away Leaving me a song that will not die Love is now the stardust of yesterday The music of the years gone by
Sometimes I wonder why I spend the lonely night dreaming of a song The melody haunts my reverie, And I am once again with you When our love was new, and each kiss an inspiration
But that was long ago
Now my consolation is in the stardust of a song
Beside a garden wall when stars are bright You are in my arms The nightingale tells his fairy tale A paradise where roses bloom
Though I dream in vain In my heart it will remain My stardust melody The memory of love's refrain
"Stardust" - my favorite version is by Nat King Cole, and it's surely one of the most beautiful recordings ever made *sigh* They don't make 'em like that any more.

Closing Time Leonard Cohen
So we’re drinking and we’re dancing And the band is really happening And the johnny walker wisdom running high And my very sweet companion She’s the angel of compassion And she’s rubbing half the world against her thigh Every drinker every dancer Lifts a happy face to thank her And the fiddler fiddles something so sublime All the women tear their blouses off The men they dance on the polka-dots And it’s partner found and partner lost And it’s hell to pay when the fiddler stops It’s closing time
We’re lonely, we’re romantic And the cider’s laced with acid And the holy spirit’s crying, ’where’s the beef? ’ And the moon is swimming naked And the summer night is fragrant With a mighty expectation of relief So we struggle and we stagger Down the snakes and up the ladder To the tower where the blessed hours chime And I swear it happened just like this A sigh, a cry, a hungry kiss The gates of love they budged an inch I can’t say much has happened since But closing time

On nights like this When the world's a bit amiss And the lights go down Across the trailer park I get down, I feel had I feel on the verge of going mad And then it's time to punch the clock
I put on some make-up And turn on the tape deck And pull the wig back on my head Suddenly I'm Miss Midwest Midnight Checkout Queen Until I head home And I put myself to bed
I look back on where I'm from Look at the woman I've become And the strangest things seem suddenly routine I look up from my Vermouth on the rocks The gift wrapped wig still in the box Of towering velveteen
I put on some make-up Some LaVern Baker I'm pulling the WIG down from the shelf Suddenly I'm Miss BEEHIVE 1963 Until I wake up And I turn back to myself
Some girls they have natural ease They wear it any way they please With their French flip curls And perfumed magazines Wear it up, let it down This is the best way that I've found To be the best you've ever seen
I put on some make-up Turn on the eight-track I'm pulling the wig down from the shelf Suddenly I'm Miss Farrah Fawcett From TV Until I wake up And I turn back to myself
Shag, bi-level, bob Dorothy Hamill do, Sausage curl, chicken wings It's all because of you With your blow dried, feather backed Toni home wave, too Flip, for, frizz, flop It's all because of you It's all because of you It's all because of you
