from "Serenity" by Godsmack
I need Serenity in a place where I can hide I need Serenity nothing changes; days go by
Where do we go when we just don’t know? And how do we relight the flame when it’s cold? Why do we dream when our thoughts mean nothing? And when will we learn to control?

Tool is a band I always equate with the likes of Pink Floyd; they are in my mind today's alt-metal version of the art rock bands of the 70s and 80s that expressed critical, often satirical, views of issues facing society of the times. "Vicarious", a song about how the media sensationalizes tragic events and how we eat it up, is a perfect example, and one of the reasons that Tool is one of my favorite bands.
from "Vicarious" by Tool
Credulous at best your desire to believe in Angels in the hearts of men Pull your head on out your hippie haze and give a listen Shouldn't have to say it all again The universe is hostile, so impersonal Devour to survive... so it is, so it's always been
We all feed on tragedy It's like blood to a vampire
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies Much better you than I

Breathe - Faith Hill
All my thoughts just seem to settle on the breeze When I'm lying wrapped up in your arms The whole world just fades away The only thing I hear Is the beating of your heart
'Cause I can feel you breathe It's washing over me Suddenly I'm melting into you There's nothing left to prove Baby all we need is just to be Caught up in the touch The slow and steady rush Baby, isn't that the way that love's supposed to be I can feel you breathe Just breathe

Southhampton Dock Waters - Pink Floyd
They disembarked in 45 And no-one spoke and no-one smiled There were to many spaces in the line. Gathered at the cenotaph All agreed with the hand on heart To sheath the sacrificial Knifes. But now She stands upon Southampton dock With her handkerchief And her summer frock clings To her wet body in the rain. In quiet desperation knuckles White upon the slippery reins She bravely waves the boys Goodbye again.
And still the dark stain spreads between His shoulder blades. A mute reminder of the poppy fields and graves. And when the fight was over We spent what they had made. But in the bottom of our hearts We felt the final cut.
