Fox reality titan American Idol scores great ratings in second half of two-night premiere.
American Idol Simon Cowell and company blew away the wannabe Seattle singers and the TV competition last night. The second night of Fox's two-night season six premiere of American Idol rocked a 15.4 rating/36 share in adults 18 to 49, and 36.9 million viewers overall, according to Nielsen.
The show had blasted back to the airwaves Monday night with auditions from Minneapolis, earning a 15.7 rating/36 share in adults 18 to 49 and 37.3 million viewers. Those numbers made Idol the highest-rated prime-time broadcast of the 2006-2007 season and the second highest-rated episode of Idol ever, after the 2003 season-two finale.
At 8 p.m., Fox scored 13.9 for the first hour of Idol. ABC took a combined 2.2 for an hour of According to Jim, and CBS scored a 1.9 for Armed & Famous. CW landed with a 1.5 for Beauty and the Geek, and NBC took a 1.2 for a repeat of Friday Night Lights.
At 9 p.m., Fox earned a 17.0 for the second hour of Idol. CBS earned a 3.4 for Criminal Minds, NBC scored a 2.3 for Deal or No Deal, ABC locked up a combined 1.4 for Knights of Prosperity and In Case of Emergency. The CW took a 1.0 for One Tree Hill.
At 10 p.m., CBS scored a 4.1 for CSI: NY, NBC nabbed a 3.1 for Medium, and ABC took a 2.7 for Primetime.
Overall, Fox dominated with a 15.4 rating/36 share, with 36.9 million total average viewers; CBS, 3.1/7, 11.1 million; NBC, 2.2/5, 7.4 million; ABC, 2.1/5, 6.1 million; CW, 1.2/3, 2.7 million.
