Hey there, Scrappy! Stroganoff is a favorite of mine, too. Yum, yum - comfort food! Great for this time of year.
My keyboard is dusted in reddish-orange from Xplosive Pizza Flavor Blasted Goldfish, absolutely one of the greatest things ever invented. I have to make myself put them down, or I'll eat the whole bag.

We went out last night to a concert, and afterwards stopped in at a restuarant before heading home. Had a couple Baileys and coffees all piled high with whipped cream and those dark chocolate sprinkles. Mmmmm. Perfect night for something hot.
Speaking of which....
This place is known for its fabulous onion rings. You order them in inches, 6 inches or twelve, served on wooden poles that stands on a wooden base: a tower of onion rings.
My friend and I knew we could both take a twelve. Twelve inches standing erect on the table. Hot and sweet. We devoured it all without so much as batting an eye. Our husbands stared, their mouths hanging open in wide-eyed wonderment.

Went this past weekend to a friend's house for dinner. Just she and her husband, me and mine and our two girls. There was enough food to feed a small third world country with a name I probably couldn't pronounce.
Pumpkin soup, turkey, gravy, dressing, steamed vegies, rolls, cornbread, salad with dried cranberries and sunflower seeds (my favorite), and chocolate layer cake.
Walked out of there feeling as stuffed as the turkey when it came out of the oven, and, because it is just the two of them, with enough leftovers to feed another small third world country. Actually, it fed us until last night, when we finally polished off the turkey in sandwiches.
Sigh. And now I have go back to cooking. After I decide what is it exactly that I want to cook. Tomato soup and grilled cheese, maybe. More my area of expertise.

Ah cooking. I'm just finding the time to get back in the kitchen for more than the 4.5 minutes to nuke something. It's been fowl weather here so I've made a batch of Chicken soup from scratch. My Lady Wife Jane gave me a very expensive set of chefs knives and a clever several years ago, for the express purpose of making chicken soup. It takes me two days to do it properly, but it seems to be worth it, Jane will happily eat it for a week. I take most of the chicken pieces and use them make chicken sandwiches to go with the soup, but I have to add mayo and cranberry sauce because all the chickens flavour stays behind in the soup. LOL Ah, can't beat that ewish Penicilin. XV

Due to the drought here, we've been under a burn ban for quite a long time. My sis's BF is a wonderful cook, indoors and out. He makes the most heavenly ribs and burgers on the grill. But due to the drought here, we've been under a burn ban for months. So, Jess can't fire up the bbq grill. (Propane, you say? Blasphemy, according to Jess.) Just so Jess can see and smell steaks cooking over an open flame, we've been going to a local steakhouse for dinner lately. Oh, the steaks are so good! Jess stands at the window that looks over the giant steak pit, a sad look in his eye. He even asked our waiter if he could help cook, and I don't think he was kidding!

Had Tuscany white bean soup the other night, Scrappy. Love that stuff.
Boll Siren. Men and their grills. Hubs has been missing using his, a sleek stainless-steel model that I got him last Father's Day; his baby. He looks at it longingly out the kitchen window as it sits under its protective covering under the overhang on the back porch. Sometimes the temptation gets too much, and he will bundle up - winter coat, gloves, hat, scarf and boots - and grill us a steak dinner.
Our back-door neighbor and my Xena Sista's hubs have it much easier - our back porch is reached by walking down a couple of steps - their decks butt up right against sliding or french doors. Neither rain, wind, sleet, nor snow can stop them. They simply pull the grill up the the door, and while the food grills outside, they can flip and tend to it while standing inside, out of the elements.

Cooked a big ole roast, with potatoes and carrots and onion, plus broccoli, corn, and frijolitos (the sis's Tejano bf must have beans at every meal). Sure was good. It started to thunder and sprinkle a bit just as we finished supper. Then we watched the Gene Tierney/Dana Andrews/Clifton Webb classic, "Laura". Ah, bliss!

Ever have one of those weekends where it seems all you do is eat? Dang, this was one of those weekends.
Highlights....Cappuchino ice-cream with huge chunks of chocolate, made at the dairy here in town, and served up at the local ice-cream parlor. Mmmmmmm. Oh, and then cuz we were cold from eating ice-cream in what is still winter, we had to stop off the LX's favorite restuarant as we walked by - the kids got hot chocolate and I a (couple) Bailey's and coffee, with whipped cream piled high.
Tonight, neither Hubs or I felt like cooking so we made corned beef sliced thin but piled high sandwiches on rye with coleslaw, provolone cheese and thousand island dressing.
Tomorrow I walk. And walk. And walk.

You're killing me, Gams! Damn, those reuben sandwiches sounded great! Haven't had one in a very long time.
We were road tripping this weekend, and wound up at my folks' for dinner - chicken & dumplings + fried potatoes. Yummmm...
On the way back from Dallas we stopped at this little mom and pop station in the Arbuckle mountains for made-before-your-eyes fried pies - apple, peach, apricot, chocolate, coconut, cherry, and more. Decisions, decisions. I took a few peach and apricot to go (the chocolate weren't done yet), and ate a cherry pie while going down the road, hot crust collapsing and cherry goo dripping down my chin and hand. Absolutely freaking wonderful!

Siren, that made-before-your-eyes pie post of yours has been stuck in my head since you posted it. Dreaming of early summer when the berry farm and Mrs. Earl's bakery opens again. Today, at the grocery, I couldn't resist "just looking" as I walked past the bakery section. Just looking ended up with a strawberry-rhubarb pie in my cart. Dang.
BP shares my sweet tooth. Yesterday a friend brought by some cookies, and of course BP wanted one right away. 'No, it's was almost time for dinner, and you may have one afterward.' Continued fixing dinner, and noticed she'd been in the bathroom a long time. 'You okay in there?' 'Mmm-hmmm, (mumble, mumble)' I open the door and my four year old is nowhere to be found....until I opened the linen closet door. 'What are you doing in there?', knowing exactly what she was doing...not only from the horror stricken look on her face, but from the cookie crumbs on her sweet innocent face that instantly burst into tears. Sigh. It's hard to keep a stern face and disipline a child that's done something they weren't suppose to, when you're trying not to laugh. No more of my friend's cookies for her, (ha! more for me. I am such an evil mom sometimes).

MMMMM..G, those crepes sound fab! Every year at the local arts festival, we enjoy piles of strawberry crepes. Sooooo good!
And just what kind of cookies were they, Evil Mom?

How can coffee be stuck in your teeth, you ask? When Hubs, half-asleep, brews it, misses the filter and the pot is filled with grounds. Argh!
