The late Van Stephenson, who had a solo hit in the 80s with "Modern Day Delilah", and a number of hits as a member of the country trio Blackhawk.

Scamp, have you heard Gretchen Wilson sing with Heart? Pretty fantabulous. Watch till the end, when Nancy GIVES Gretchen her guitar!

Have you watched Grace Potter and Heart do "Crazy on You?" Gretchen Wilson and Alice in Chains doing "Barracuda" is pretty interesting as well. And I've got a new odd combo: Eddie Vedder and Natalie Maines doing X's John Doe's song "Golden State" which has topped my list of el bizarro couplings -- my previous one was the Dixie Chicks backing James Taylor and then stealing "Shower the People." Dweezil Zappa, who has a kid named Zola Frank Zappa.

Dweezil Zappa, who has a kid named Zola Frank Zappa. Glad you enjoyed it, scamp. I enjoy the blown-away look on Gretchen's face in that video. It's like she's thinking, "I don't know how this happened. And they may jerk me off the stage at any moment. So, I'm just going to enjoy this. Holy cow, that's Ann Wilson. And she is AWESOME!!") And when Nancy hands over the guitar, you can tell that, at first, Gretchen thinks she's just holding it for Nancy (which would be cool enough). But when Nancy gestures that she's giving it to Gretchen, GW is floored. Neat, neat moment. I have seen my share of collaborations that are purely record label machinations. But, happily, these odd couplings sometimes come from a true admiration between the artists. I know the Chicks are huge JT fans, surprising as that may be. Alison Krauss has expressed a love of 80s rock, particularly Foreigner. One of the best CMT "Crossroads" collaborations (a series bringing together two very different artists) featured country rocker Travis Tritt and the legendary Ray Charles. It came from Travis' great admiration of Ray. He calls Ray his biggest vocal influence. C is for country singer Connie Smith. Dolly Parton once said that there are only three real girl singers - Streisand, Ronstadt, and Connie Smith. And that the rest of us (including herself) are just pretending.

Nana Mouskouri
Nana has sold over 400 million LPs/CDs and has more than 230 gold and platinum albums worldwide, making her a probably for the best-selling female recording artist of all time. She has a new due out in Feb, 2013 (she’ll be 77-78 years old). Her voice is glorious. The wonder of it all is how she does it with just one vocal cord.
