That sure is a unique way of watching movies that your Uncle had, reckon he must have got a few strange looks. There were all sorts of masked villains [ and heroes ] in those old serials, as well as plenty of Westerns of course, each episode ending with the hero facing inevitable doom so that you had to go the following week to see if/how he escaped, funny thing was he always did, no matter how dire the situation. Think you could both be right about the reason Renee made BJ2, it's hard to imagine it would have looked any better on the page then it turned out on screen so possibly her original contract committed her to a sequel in which case she had no choice. Agree about "Elektra" an interesting character that should have transferred well to the screen, unfortunately those comic adaptations are pretty hit and miss affairs and this one was pretty tepid. Okay then, few hints for "Strange Days." A drama with Sci-fi elements to it, two guys in it have both had roles in Spielberg blockbusters, the first being nominated for a best supporting Oscar for his role of a Nazi camp commandant, the second was a Sergeant among a group of soldiers attempting to find a paratrooper behind enemy lines so he can be sent back home, also played one of a group of professional criminals in one of the best [ in my opinion ] crime/drama films ever, one that brought two of cinemas superstars together on screen for the first time.

Yep, it sure is Siren. First saw him in "Schindler's List" and thought he was amazing, a really towering performance and I was looking forward to seeing more of him, but strangely I've never really cared for him in anything he's done since, not even that much in "Strange Days" which I thought was a very good film; can't quite put my finger on it, maybe it's his mannerisms or just his choice of films, I'm not really sure.

Woops, sorry - "The English Patient".
He has not worked a whole lot, relatively speaking, since "Schindler's List". That film may be his greatest legacy - and it would be a good one. But still, a shame that he hasn't done more.

Ohhhh, "The English Patient" brings back bad memories of how I almost embarrassed myself; don't ask me why after all the gore and horror I've seen in various films over the years, but leading up to and during the "thumb" scene in that I broke out in a cold sweat and thought I was going to be sick, didn't know whether to make a dash for the exit or just shut my eyes and hope it passed, which eventually it did thankfully, but still it was a close call. And I agree Siren, hard to see RF topping his performance in "Schindler's List." Juliette Binoche.

My "cold sweat" movie experience was during "The Blair Witch Project". We had to sit in the front row, because those were literally the only seats left. If you recall that movie, you remember that the camera was hand-held and had lot of footage of the characters walking through the woods, the camera swaying and bogging with every step. While watching this movie from that front-row seat, I got motion sickness. And it was so bad, I broke into a sweat, and literally had to close my eyes, turn my face onto my sister's shoulder, and fan myself to keep from losing my lunch. It was horrible! Thanks to sis for talking me through the rest of the movie. We went back on another day, and got to watch from better seats. No motion sickness that time, thankfully. Not a bad movie, either. And here's a funny side note. My mom has a scarecrow that she displays in the yard during the fall. I didn't know that she had moved him to the cellar for storage. I went down into that dark, musty place to get something, and could see a dim figure standing in the corner of the basement, just like in "Blair Witch". I had already drawn a breath to scream my head off when I realized what it was. I tell you, it took years off my life! Lol!
Let's see... My first experience seeing the beautiful Juliette was with you-know-who in...

Daniel Day Lewis
My sister has one of those kick-boxing buddy things, and for a time she had him in her garage in front of the back door. The back of her house in straight across from the front of my house and I'd get a scare whenever I looked out a front window and saw him silhouetted in the door window. It was like Jason or Michael was staring back at me.

Yes, ma'am, Mia. Well done! Wanna pick a movie from him?
LOL - that would've scared me, too! Here's another story along those lines. My niece received a life-size cardboard figure of Xena for her 11th birthday. It was placed in the dining room, along with her other gifts, at her Xena-themed party. We got such a kick out of looking at party snapshots later, and seeing Xena standing among the family members, that, for a few years, it became a tradition to bring her in for all family celebrations. She wore a red, white, and blue hat at the 4th of July, a yellow lei during a luau, etc. But here's the funny part: after we had decorated the dining room for my niece's party that first year, and placed Xena against the wall, my elderly aunt (who doesn't see well) arrived for the party. She passed through the dining room, on her way to us in the kitchen, but not before waving a greeting at Xena. She was just about to speak to her, when she realized it was a cardboard figure! LOL!

So funny you two, sounds like a plot from a B-movie, terrified by the Phantom Scarecrow and Kick-Boxing Buddy thingy, though I imagine it wasn't so funny at the time. Would you believe that I've never seen "The Blair Witch Project" which I guess puts me an a tiny minority. Despite all the fanfare when it was released it never really took my fancy, and for some reason I haven't even gotten around to watching it on TV, think I'll have to rectify that next time it pops up. I'll make sure to sit well back from the screen when I do though, wouldn't want to suffer the same experience you did, sheesh once is enough going through that, not a nice feeling at all. Paul Scofield.

With "Blair Witch's" home-movie style, it may look even more real on tv, since most people watch home movies on tv. There was a mixed reaction to that film, for sure. I got a nice scare out of it. Some people just didn't buy it. But if you pay attention as they explain the students' objective in the woods, and just "go with" the mythology that's presented, I think you'll be entertained. I think it created a very nice, spooky mood, and built the tension well.

No worries Siren. Probable best known as one of the great Shakespearean stage actors, films have included "Henry V" "King Lear" and "A Man for all Seasons" for which he won an Oscar. www.imdb.com/name/nm0006890/How about we go with "Winona Ryder" then.

No worries Siren, I'll have you know I wouldn't do that for just anybody though. Have to go with one of my favourites here ........... Susan Sarandon. Sorry for taking so long to respond.

You are, make no mistake about it.
Another of those that could go in the "Movies You Can't Not Watch" thread, always good for a viewing, stellar cast, including ............
Veronica Cartwright.

No problemo Siren. If I mentioned huge jaws with rows of razor sharp teeth and enough saliva to float a boat, and a pointed tail sliding around her legs just moments before <gasp, look away quick, it's horrible> That help, if not we'll go with ............... Michelle Pfeiffer.

Got it in one Siren, well done, she was indeed the only other female member of the Nostromo besides Ripley [ Sigourney Weaver ] and certainly did meet a grisly fate. Dangerous Liaisons, how about we go with the supremely talented ............ Glenn Close. Man it was a battle not going for Uma, but I gotta be strong.

Great choice Siren, she was excellent it that; not every young actress who could more then hold her own against such awesome talent as Jane Fonda and Anne Bancroft, but she did so admirably.
Two pretty good names there for you to work off.
By the way, did you miss that weather a few days back, saw on the news a hurricane caused quite a bit of havoc.

I'm doing fine, thanks, kat. Lots of folks hurting here in Oklahoma, though. Some areas had terrible flooding; 7 people have died. But things are getting back to normal, slowly.
I saw this for the first time the other night, and really enjoyed...

Couldn't do without them that's for sure Siren, often act the "star" off the screen IMO, and Farnsworth was one of the best, a completely natural talent, an speaking of talent .........
Kathy Bates.

Did you know that Reba McEntire was offered that role first? She had to turn it down due to concert commitments.
