My wife and I buy our dream home in the country, only to find it's one expense and inconvenience after another.

Mr Blandings from Mr Blandings Dream Home.
This is the original on which the later Money Pit films were based.
But I suppose you're Walter Fielding played by Tom Hanks in the 1986 film?

Oh no - the adorable Cary Grant, in the original. He and Myrna Loy (love her!) were so good together. Perhaps not the magical, are-they-really-a-couple chemistry she had with William Powell. But they were good together, just the same.

Oh indeed, if ever there was someone who might convince me to change teams it would have been the wonderful Mr Grant. heheh
Ok let's see.
I am a unique individual with a very bouncy personality. I love to play with my friends and I always try to be very helpful, even if that sometimes doesn't work. I would in my humblest opinion have to say that I am a wonderful thing. Who am I?

Roger Rabbit?

I am indeed a cartoon character Kat, but not anyone so young as Roger Rabbit. I would go so far as to say I'm fun, fun, fun, fun, fun. And some say that my top and bottom are made of two different things.

Orphaned when Indians attacked our wagon train, I'm adopted by a cowboy who dreams of building a cattle empire. Years later, our herd built, we set out on an epic cattle drive.

Had to check to get the characters name, the old memory not being as good as it once was [ and it was never that good ] Reckon you'd be "Matthew Garth" from "Red River" unless I'm very much mistaken.

Exactly right, kat. Well done! See? The old memory's better than you thought.

Looks like it is ................ errrr, what's your name again? Leading my special operation's team on what appears to be a straight forward extraction of prisoners deep in the jungle of a South American country when things go horribly wrong, and we become the prey of ................... something out there.

You got that accent spot on Siren, and also the character, it is indeed "Dutch" from the excellent Predator, played of course by the Austrian Oak.

The Austrian Oak - I'd forgotten about that!
All the actors in this one were unknowns. But can you name the movie?
At a remote arctic outpost, my comrades and I dig up a frozen creature, which turns deadly when accidently thawed.

I think so, sounds to me like "The Thing from Another World" made in the fifties if memory serves, with Marshal Matt Dillon, aka James Arness as the creature.

Yessir, that's it! I remember this movie as just "The Thing". Have I been wrong all these years? Ah well. Yup, underneath that arctic carrot suit, there was brawny James Arness. Well done!

No you may be right Siren, for some reason that was the title that came to me, I shall wander over to IMDb and reconnoiter.
How do you think the remake compared with the original?
|
|
|
Post by Siren on Jan 12, 2007 0:51:26 GMT -6
No, you have the title absolutely correct, kat. But I was surprised when I looked up that movie that it was "The Thing From Another World" and not just "The Thing". Scared me silly as a kid, I'm sure of that.
Honestly, I don't remember much about the remake. I remember gore, and not much beyond that. And maybe that was the magic of the first one - like another of our favorites, "The Haunting" - that it didn't show much, so your imagination makes it scary.

Yay I got one right, wonders will never cease. Yeah, a lot of gore in the remake, though it still wasn't bad, one of Carpenters last fairly decent movies in my opinion, not nearly as good as Halloween or Starman, but still better then the junk he's turned out since.

Gosh - "Halloween" and "Starman". Two movies that couldn't be more different, from the same director. Love 'em both, but had forgotten that he'd directed both.
Your turn, right?

I'm not really sure, think I've lost track, but I'll give it a whirl though. When a group of scientists invade my territory deep in the Amazon jungle and try to capture me I strike back, killing several. I become enamored with the female member of the group and carry her off, bringing the wrath of the others down upon me. Hint .................. I'm not exactly human.

I remember seeing "Halloween" in the theater, and it just scaring my friend and me (then high schoolers) silly. I did the old trick of grabbing her when I came back from the snack bar. Her scream nearly peeled the paint off the walls!
Great description. Is it "King Kong"?

I did the old trick of grabbing her when I came back from the snack bar. Her scream nearly peeled the paint off the walls! I bet that impressed the other patrons. Great movie, and I think perhaps one of the first to use what is now standard in such films, where the villain/monster is thought to be dead but isn't, and rises up for an encore, or two or three. Your scaring your friend like that reminds me of the biggest shock I ever got at the flicks, which was at the end of "Carrie" where the hand reaches out from the grave and grabs the girls wrist; I actually lifted out of my seat and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up when that happened it was so unexpected, think I'm still recovering from it today. That does sound like "King Kong" doesn't it, but this one is more recent then the original KK, made in the fifties, and I'm just as adept underwater as on land.

Oh yes - my friend Vicki was a great screamer. She could've gotten work in horror films, or as a professional screamer on roller coasters. My sis Gina is that way, too. Once, at a carnival, we rode a "Scrambler". We were the only patrons on the ride at that time, so the ride attendant let us ride and ride, and really turned up the speed. Gina's earth-shattering screams drew people to the ride. He had a nice number waiting in line by the time we staggered off.
Oh lord, yes. The end of "Carrie" is one of the great shocks in cinema, IMO. Terrific scene.
Hmmm...I'm a bit stumped on this one, too, then. We'll see if Scrappy and Co. come to the rescue.

Did he offer a refund because of the great advertising job your sister did? Speaking of advertising, reckon we may have to post some flyers to try and attract some attention in here.

Know this one, you are ............. a big, giant slug. Ummm, guess that's not quite good enough, I take it you have a name.
The name "Perfection" rings a faint bell, would this be an adaption of a Stephen King novel/story by any chance.
