PostCrossing is a club I'm in that I thought you all might enjoy, in which postcards are exchanged all over the world. You register at the website, request the address of a random fellow member, and send a postcard. When the card is received, the receiver registers it on the site, and your address is then given to another random member, so that you will receive a card. I have received a couple dozen cards so far, from Russia, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Germany, Taipei, North Wales, Poland, Paris, Holland, China, Korea, England, Australia, Finland, Malaysia, and more. The cost is minimal to send a card - a dollar for postage, here in the U.S. - and all the folks I have "met" have been kind and interesting. And you can be as anonymous as you would like. In these days when getting any mail besides a bill is getting more and more rare, finding a postcard in the mailbox is a day-brightener, for sure. www.postcrossing.com/

Oooo, this sounds fun, Siren. I LOVE getting mail other than bills and junk.
Just curious, though.....does your address go out to everyone who is registered? How does a person remain anonymous? Yes, yes....it's probably ridiculous, but I'm pretty paranoid about throwing out my name and address on the web where the whole world can see it.
I've heard of a sort of similar club; I can't think of the name of it, but my bosses' niece participates. From my understanding, it kind of works like this. You register on-line, and then get a list of places....it could be a fence post down a country road, a tree in a park, a streetlight in a city. There are boxes set up all over the country. Inside the boxes are little trinkets, a note, a book - just some little gifty thing. The "prize" is yours to take, but you must leave another in return. It sounds like fun (but much more work than the postcard crossing). The niece has all sorts of these trinkets from just about everywhere she's been. Apparently, there's even one of these boxes on the trail I used to roller-ski on, though I've never seen it.

I saw a documentary about your "scavenger hunt" game, Gams. Can't remember what what the game is called. But it does sound very interesting. Folks take it quite seriously, and it's apparently addictive. Sounds like fun.
At PostCrossing, your name/address is given to only one fellow member at a time, at random. And it's to someone outside your own country, unless you specify otherwise. Some people use their real name, some don't. Same for photos - some show their faces, some don't. I feel certain that, for security, some members use an address that isn't their own to receive their cards. I have a P.O. box.
There a "Frequently Asked Questions" page on the site, if you want more details.
