1-7 -- Done!
Anyone else want to join me in learning to code websites? I'm doing it with Susa over on her Runboard board, but thought I'd see if anyone here wanted in on the endeavor, so created this thread where we could do that.

I learned HTML when I set up my website for my students. I have since taught myself a smattering of CSS and PHP. I really like PHP because you can reuse code segments as a file. It helps for those segments that are likely to change often. Make one change and it's reflected throughout your site everywhere the code segment is used. The big draw back to using PHP is that if you don't run special server software on your local machine you won't be able to run the code locally to see what it will look like once installed. You have to make a change, upload to your site, repeat, and rinse just to get it right. I installed the special software a long time ago. Not that big a deal unless you decide to take a break from development. Then you must either remember to turn it off before doing something memory intensive or leave it turned off all the time and hope you can remember how to get it started again when you go back to development. [Added] I don't know how much longer my site will be up, but here is a page I created for my students who were interested in finding additional resources. Feel free to mine it for any additional links you may find useful.

Thanks, Spock. I saved the page to my computer for future reference should it disappear. Feel free to create threads and share whatever info you wish. Also, feel free to jump in and help members out if they need it. I know some coding, but not enough to teach it.
Did you teach high school or college?
PHP: I believe Lesa has a download link on her website for those playing around with PHP. I haven't gotten that far yet. I've also been reading books I bought last year, so I haven't gotten back to Lesa's blog yet. --- I didn't find a download link on her PHP page. I know I've seen it somewhere. Or maybe I just thought I did?
Lesa is the one who coded this forum. She created this 'classroom' board to teach me and whoever else here wanted to learn web code. But she had joined Runboard and was helping members out on the support board needing help with code. Thor, the creator of Runboard eventually added her to his coding team, and she's way busy helping Thor with upgrades and the like. So, I figured it's time I learned all this myself, as I'll need it when I upgrade this forum sometime this year. She said she'd help out whenever she could find the time. I just hate giving her more work to do. And this job doesn't pay. I wish it did, I might have learned code way back when, which is how long Lesa has been at me to learn it. I wish I hadn't procrastinated the years away and studied code like she did.
Anyhoo. She got so busy at Runboards that she started spending more and more time there. So this board never saw the light of day. Until now. When I joined Susa in taking Lesa's beginner course, I decided it was time to dust this board off and open it up for others here who might also want to learn alongside Susa and me. And it will be here for when anyone might decide it's finally time they learn to code.

I taught Digital Logic and Computer Design for three years at the US Naval Academy to Senior level students.
I also taught three different computer classes to complete computer novices after I retired; Computer Fundamentals, Basic Computer Technology, and Basic Website Design.

Wow. Very impressive. Now I have someone besides just Lesa to bug with all my questions.

My first exposure to "Logic" circuits was some time around 1965 when I was studying IFF circuitry.

Only had to read the first link. All the others are linked to at the bottom of each lesson. So, if you use those links, you won't skip number 25 in the list. If you used the links on the Beginner's page, then you'll need to read numbers 1 & 25 on the Getting Started page. You read all of the others already.

Imagine my surprise while playing with Google and the word 'Code' and 'Runboard' that I would turn up this thread! LOL I have finished page 15 at Lesa's blog.

Hi, Susa! That's weird ... did I not link to it on your forum at some point? Maybe I didn't. I know I did link to your forum on here somewhere.

You did post a link, but I had forgotten it and was surprised when it popped up in Google.
Your comment last night at Spractice was exactly what I wanted my head to say last night but I couldn't seem to say it. Thank you so much!

You're very welcome. I've had plenty of practice explaining to Lesa what others are trying to tell her. The O2ers had her head reeling at times. I bet that's why she made me co-Admin. I owe it all to the O2ers.
O2ers = The OxyXena posters from the good old days at Oxygen's Xena forum before Oxygen.com sunk it and we had to move to Whoosh's forum.

How funny. I am a rather literal person myself and don't always get what people are trying to say. I just did a misunderstanding because of a missing adjective that probably no one else would have misread. However, the fact that I misread it probably means that someone else down the road would have misread it.

... it probably means that someone else down the road would have misread it. I would have for sure. In fact, this forum is littered with my posts responding to what I saw posted but not what the poster meant ...
