Made me cry. I had to Google the lion video ... I don't recall ever seeing it:
Found this one too:
I found a video claiming Christian died in 2009. Don't view it. The YT user puts two videos together to make it look like Christian is being killed by hunters. And only at the end of the video do they make it clear that the second lion is a different one. Jerk.
It would have been emotional enough just seeing a lion being gunned down, but to think that that lion is the same one who just so lovingly greeted his human family is beyond cruel. Dirtbag.

When I was a kid, Dad made extra money by having two sows. My sister and I played in the hog pen with the sows and piglets, but kept out whenever a boar was put inside. The boars were from a neighboring farm and weren't used to kids being in the pen with them. I cried every time the grown babies were loaded up and taken to the market. We never killed one for ourselves. Mom & Dad had gotten a calf once that we had raised and put in the freezer, and none of us could eat him, so we knew not to bother with the hogs.
My sister and I never had to worry about snakes when playing in the hog pen. And it wasn't until one of the sows started making a nest one time that I realized how unsafe my sister and I were, should they decide we were the enemy. Quite an eye opener. Before that I'd never even thought to be afraid of them.
Found another Christian video:

I saw a similar article on another web site. It's so great that they can give the kitty back some mobility - it can even jump!

Yes, Step, it was wonderful, what they were able to do for him. And I think his new legs are rather cool-looking, sleek and efficient.
Many years ago, one of our farm cats, Blue Boy, a lovely and gentle tom cat, lost a back leg. It was amputated by the vet, in order to save the cat's life. He lived a good many years after that on three legs, and continued to be a skillful hunter. When he was merely walking, he hopped along rather clumsily. But amazingly enough, he could run at full speed, very smoothly, using his tail as a balance. He could even climb trees, and, as I said, chase down prey. What a wonderful guy he was, so sweet and affectionate. He was the most loving tom cat I've ever known of. I imagine that's why the vet didn't put him to sleep at the time of his terrible injury. Even then, he was so sweet. I imagine the vet couldn't bear to kill him. He died of old age, out on the farm, and is buried in the old garden plot, along with assorted goldfish, hamsters, pet chickens, canaries, and many other beloved cats and dogs.

It took 'em two days, but the local streets and roads rescued a kitten the other day. A girl saw it on her way to summer classes and she planned on taking it home, but it wasn't there when she went back. She looked around and heard it - couldn't find it though. Eventually she found it in a drain pipe, but out of reach. She called for help and the next day it finally arrived. The kitten was out of reach and everytime they lured it closer with food, it would back up when they tried reaching for it. Finally the street and roads people showed up. They cut the welds on a manhole cover, climbed down the pipe and captured the kitty from behind. Lots of people are volunteering to adopt it. (I know, I'm saying "it" a lot - but I don't know if it's a he or a she or an it, so it's an it. ) Maybe if they'd do more to advertize what's available, more of them would get adopted.

I saw an interesting documentary last week on Penguins. I know, many saw March of the Penguins a few years back and I've run into people who have said outright that they're 'penguined out'. What? Is that possible? This is a pretty cool story even if you're one of those.
The show talked about the complex social circles penguins have, how they mate for life and meet these long lasting, important other penguins at antarctica. They talked about the fact that there are never dead penguins left on the ice and it's because members of the deceased bird's social group will actually use their vestigial wings and beaks to dig a grave in the ice. The males then gather around the dead penguin and sing a goodbye song... "Freeze a jolly a good fellow. Freeze a jolly good fellow..."

Aw, that is sweet, Siren. It's very apparent how much he loves his dog, and how the dog loves him.
Much sweeter that the mini-cow, I think. You think adorable? I dunno - not that she's not sweet, but she just looks odd to me, out of porportion maybe - like a full-sized cow with short, stubby legs. Ah, but don't most ladies want longer legs?
My cats have been going crazy the last couple of weeks. I always plant the sunflowers toward the back of the vegetable garden, and the back of the garden just so happens to be right next to our kitchen windows. While we're eating dinner, it gives us a close up view of the goldfinches who flock to the sunflowers this time of year. It gives the cats a closeup view too - I don't think either of them have left the window sill in the last seven days....and I swear those goldfinches are teasing them, getting as close to the window as they possibly can without flying into it.

Do your cats chatter at the birds? One of mine used to get excited when birds got close to the sliding glass door and she'd chatter at them - her jaw quivering with excitement. She loved having them close. Yes, I used to put out food for the birds so she could have her fun. I used to surprise mom with sun flowers. I'd plant a couple some place in the back of her garden without telling her and she'd let me know when she found them. One year I planted a couple right next to her bird feeder across the driveway - just over from her kitchen window. I guess the birds ate up the seeds in those too. But sunflowers have an amazing yield for one little seed!

Our kitty used to chatter like that whenever anyone picked up a fly swat, Step. Don't ask me to explain that one! The same cat chattered like mad when my sis brought home a bunch of that tall, decorative grass for her bedroom. The cat took one look and began to chatter and chase my sis, who was hollering, "No, no, no!", all the way to her bedroom. If he saw a plant on a long, leafless stem, he would eat it. I know exactly what he wanted to do to that decorative grass! You bet, Step, you get your money's worth from one little sunflower seed. Same for dill, cucumbers, cantelope, and squash. Holy cow - the number of zucchini that can come from one little seed! ~~~~~~ Here's a story for cat-loving science geeks: news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20101111/sc_afp/usscienceresearchanimalcat_20101111202537

Our cats chatter at the birds occasionally; never at flyswatters though - too funny, Siren! When the goldfinches were at the sunflowers right up next to the window, so close the cats could reach out and touch them if there wasn't a screen keeping them from having a mouthful of feathers, the cats were in total silent attack mode. Once or twice, Ranger, the less intelligent of the two, forgot about the screen, or if the air-conditioning was one, the glass pane, and lunged, ending up with an "Oh, damn!" look on his face.
Both cats could give lessons to the dog - I'd even pay them to do so. Quetta is still a complete slob when it comes to the water bowl, either playing in it, or leaving with a beard of water dripping from her chin. Interesting article - thanks for posting the link!

Gams said, "Once or twice, Ranger, the less intelligent of the two, forgot about the screen, or if the air-conditioning was one, the glass pane, and lunged, ending up with an "Oh, damn!" look on his face." LOL! Poor guy! I'll bet he looked embarrassed. Some people say animals can't do things like that. But my aunt's chihuahua could look terribly embarrassed when she was teased about her belly. I loved this story. Maybe I'll suggest to my sis that she could supplement her income with help from Mala, Joan & Jett, Norma, and the rest of the goat gang. purinaanimalallstars.yahoo.com/?v=8571610&l=100000085

This story has swept the nation, and even the continent. Folks from as far away as Canada are calling Sulphur, a pretty little town about 45 minutes from here, wanting to adopt Wall-E, the pup who cheated death: www.news9.com/global/story.asp?s=14167428

Yesterday at work, I literally threw a customer's money back in her face.
I was counting out her change, when out from her purse setting on the counter pops two beady eyes in a furry, little head. It startled the heck out of me. In one of those ACK Moments of mine, her change went flying everywhere. I just wasn't expecting her to be carrying a concealed weapon like that....although, I have to admit though I'm not one to favor chippy lap dogs, this one was cute.

I'm the one that cried for three days after I killed a bird with my new BB gun that I got on my 7th birthday but can watch with indifference commercial after commercial about starving children. Hate me if you will or think me an evil person, but it's the truth. I love elephants, have probably 1000 in my curio cabinet and all over the house...and a dozen documentaries and videos about and for elephants. Amazing creatures. Ana & I plan on going to the sanctuary in Tennessee when she comes back. I've wanted to go for years and this will be the year! I cried during this entire video...one of the sweetest things I've ever watched. wimp.com/elephantsreunited/
