On the 19th of October I had a Prostate Biopsy. They were afraid I might have cancer. I've had the results back from that and they were negative, so the doctor is "90% sure" I don't have cancer.
What happened right after the surgery was slightly frightening though. I was still partially sedated after the surgery, so my wife was driving us home. On the way I felt an increasing urge as if for a Bowel Movement. Obviously I didn't want to mess up her car seat, so I held it as long as I could.
When we got home I got out of the care as quickly as I could while "clenched" but still leaked a little ... it was blood.
The leaking became heavier as I made my way to our front door. I had to wait there because my wife had my set of keys. Once I got inside, the leaking started to increase accompanied by a real urge to just "let it all out"!
I made it to the bathroom without leaving too big a trail of blood behind, made it to the toilet and let go. I passed a huge blood clot and lots of liquid blood as well.
Once I felt the worst was over I removed my bloody clothing and got into the shower to clean up some. While in there I started feeling really, REALLY dizzy.
Suddenly I simply collapsed onto my hands and knees into the bottom of the tub and another huge blood clot and more liquid blood erupted from my surgery site. It ws all I could do to keep from just lying down and going to sleep right there but I had a feeling that if I did, I might not wake again.
I managed to retain consciousness and eventually felt good enough to regain my feet and finish what I had started. Of course, I had to clear the shower drain several times from the blood clots clogging the drain.
In the meantime my wife had been trying to call the doctors office but they were now closed for the day as my surgery was one of the last they had performed.
Needless to say, I slowly recovered or I wouldn't be posting this but it had me slightly concerned at the time. For some reason I haven't felt much like doing anything but resting, even though I have a lot that needs to be accomplished before the middle of January next year.
Why am I posting this? I'm not sure. Perhaps I just feel the need to let others know what happened to me or maybe I feel an un-Vulcan-like need for sympathy (shudder) or maybe I'm just trying to get it in "writing" so I don't forget what happened.
Life is short, don't miss any opportunity to let those you love know you love them!

I really wish they'd do away with outpatient surgery. One night wouldn't kill them. If you're still leaking blood, you can do what my dad did when he had bleeding hemorrhoids ... use a feminine menstrual pad/sanitary napkin. Oh, and go to the emergency room.
I hope it's over and nothing more serious comes of it.

I'm not leaking any more, so that's no longer necessary but I already did as you suggested.
In fact, when I first got in the shower, I made my wife snort by saying, "Hmm, must be that time of the month."

Thank you all. My best girl friend (better known as my wife, partner, etc) and I went out today to spend some time together. We didn't do anything really exciting but we left the house around 0900 and didn't get back until around 1600. It was nice and relaxing and we both really enjoyed just spending time together for a change.

ME?! FREAK OUT AT EVERYTHING?!!! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!!! I NEVER FREAK OUT!
Hardly ever.
ACK! Maybe I do freak out at everything. Maybe people think I freak out at everything. "There goes Phalon; she's a freak-outer, you know." Oh-my-god, they're talking behind my back; I can feel it!

Isn't there a reason we're called the paranoid sisters?
No no....you don't freak out at all. (eye roll)

Shouldn't that be capitalized? The Paranoid Sisters. There, much better.
Thank god!!! I was starting to feel the onset of a paranoid panic attack coming on!!!

First, I'm glad to hear you are feeling better although, for future reference, losing enough blood that you nearly passed out and probably experienced vertigo might have warranted a visit to an ER for Lactated Ringer's or a unit or two.
About Phalon, she doesn’t really freak out when things like that happen. Freak isn’t strong enough. It’s more like total-crash-and-burn-run-in-circles and scream-loudly-enough-to-attract-the-attention-of-all-neighbors-within-city-limits (excluding the 9/11 folks of course) because it’s much more interesting to react that way. And as we all know, things that come out of the body are exceptionally icky. Snot, phlegm, blood, clots, and worse of all, babies. All messy and icky and legitimate reasons for the ick-reaction.

Firstly Spock, glad to hear the results were negative and you're in the clear health wise. Secondly, did you see your surgeon to find out what happened, that sounds like a pretty drastic reaction to what is really a fairly minor and standard procedure; I've had two done (great fun aren't they ) and had no problems whatsoever other then what was explained to me beforehand. Guess this just proves it, Aussie health systen V American, chalk and cheese. I hope the problems are all..er..behind you now, LMAO.

Hey, I just did that the other day. Which? Play with your hair? Fire? Both at the same time (which doesn't sound like something I'd want to do)?

I don't know if I'm lucky or unlucky. We had a narrow squeak tonight. We were on our way back from visiting our "baby" daughter and her family when I almost hit another vehicle!
We were almost home and it was really dark out with no lighting in the section of the road we were on, I was doing 65 in a 65 zone on a 4 lane (each way) section of the Interstate. I had just moved into the right hand lane preparatory to exiting in about 1.5 miles down the road when I suddenly saw the dark tail gate of a small pickup truck extending partially into the same lane I was in!
He was facing the wrong way with his lights on what appeared to be a darkened, possibly disabled vehicle that was well off the travel lanes on the right shoulder. I saw his headlights first and then realized that there was a very faint light almost right in front of me that was his tail light seen from a front side angle.
If I hadn't seen it at the last minute, realized what it was, and swerved at the last minute, he would have taken out the entire right side of my car ... the same side that my most important treasure in the world was sitting!
I remember looking in my rear view mirror fully expecting to see the car that had been tail-gating me hit him but it also managed to swerve in time. I used OnStar to report the problem and hope the police showed up in time to keep anyone from getting killed and to read the idiot who was driving the truck the riot act!

I'd say, after reading what happened, you're pretty damned lucky. Actually the driver of the truck was pretty damned lucky. If something had happened to my wife due to his negligence, I would have done my best to kill him/her.

The trouble is there were a lot of cars not that far behind us. I went around a curve and took a turn-off by the time I had finally gotten in touch with anyone who could have done anything. I keep wanting to contact the police to find out if they were able to do anything constructive but am almost afraid to call because I don't want to hear I was too late.

The problem I keep hearing about on the news is that people manage to get on the interstates and go the wrong direction. Since they are divided highways there is no easy exit and the normal result is a head-on bash. Most often, the offender is inebriated but that's not an excuse I'm willing to accept. These things often result in someone in both vehicles dead.

There aren't ever quite the right words or enough of them to say at such a loss. So sorry, Spock.
After a year-long valiant effort, my co-worker and friend just lost that same battle, and passed away last weekend. Insidious disease in all its forms.

Thanks. I just felt like I had to let everyone know what had been happening in case I started acting weirder than I normally do. I've lost enough friends and relatives that I know deep down that my life will eventually return to nermal again but some days it takes longer than others.
