I posted this on my forum and then realized it might also help some in this forum, so I am going to quote the post I made there so you don't need to go to my forum to read it.

I came across an article by accident doing a bit of random word drilling for Halloween; can you believe it's almost time...can you believe I'm actually doing something before the very last minute. Anywhoo... I thought this was interesting. Though the article pertains specifically to journalism, I think a lot of the points made can be applied to any type of writing. weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/crime/blog/2009/02/a_gruesome_accident_and_how_we.html

Wait. Halloween is weeks and weeks away. Whatdoyoumeanyouarealreadygettingready? Ready for what?? Buy a couple bags of candy and you're done! Shoot - you could just leave it in a bowl on the porch and when you hear the crash or crunch you know it's empty. That is how it works isn't it?

Don't tempt me. I still have Glad the Inhaler someplace.

You know how it goes...the other day I was drilling for information the same way I do housework, or as a customer pointed out, how many people garden. You start off doing one thing, which leads to another, then another, and another, so by the time you're done, you are so far off track from where you started, you've forgotten what you were attempting to do in the first place.
And Halloween is the next upcoming holiday after-all, unlike Christmas which some (you) people prepare for way too early. Instead you should be taking out the trash....uhm, I mean getting Glad out of storage.
