Phalon: I’m sorry you lost your post. I sometimes write my comments in an email and save to draft from time to time. Of course, that probably won’t be helpful since your computer is the problem.
I can’t believe January is half over. My anxiety always made the first few months of the year go by soooo slowly. I haven’t even checked once to see what time the darkness takes over. I know the days are growing longer, but I haven’t felt the need to keep track of the progress. So far so good. Hopefully my seasonal anxieties are over, but I’ll need to stay on top of it for a few years just to make sure it doesn’t creep up on me and pounce when least expected. I want to be done with Autumn/Winter mental breakdowns.

Back. For the time being anyway. I honestly don't think it's my computer exactly. It's something I did, and still trying to figure out how to undo it - I locked my touchpad inadvertently, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to unlock it. I've locked it a few times in the past, and got it unlocked by trial and error, but nothing seems to work this time. Until I figure it out, I'm using an ancient mouse I found at the bottom of my desk drawer - it's so old and dusty it sticks, which causes the cursor to jump around the screen erratically while I'm typing, which was what was happening when I lost my post the other day.
Weird thing is - I know the touchpad isn't totally locked, because pressing it is how I have to bring screen back to life when it's sleeping. I honestly think it might have been a bunch of Windows updates I had last week. Settings show the touchpad is on and working. Checked Dell's touchpad troubleshooting articles, and have tried everything suggested there...except they mentioned something about Windows being a different issue, and I haven't looked into that yet.
Sorry for the ramble...but I can type! I can type! Without the cursor jumping all over the place! For the moment!
Glad for you that you've got your seasonal anxieties under control!

I've locked up my mouse pad a few times. I will do a search on YouTube on how to turn it on and off, and get it working again. I've even accidentally hit several keys together and unfortunately those keys will turn out to be short cuts for something. Sometimes I remember what I did and do it again to undo what I did. Sometimes I have to restart my computer to get it back to its old self. Sometimes computers can be a pain in the backside.

Sometimes?? Such a useful tool, yet so frustrating. I figured it out yesterday....couldn't tell you what I did, or do it again if someone paid me. I just played around with a bunch of stuff, couldn't get anything to work, got fed up with the whole thing, and walked away to start cooking dinner. Came back after dinner, and I'll be danged, the d@mn touchpad was working.
And don't you know it, I keep reaching for the ancient mouse that I have since disconnected!

Stepper, a much belated thank you for your kind words regarding Quetta. She was such a sweet, sweet girl. Missed and love by all - even the neighbor lady who found out what was happening came over before she went to work the morning Hubs and I were taking her to the vet, and literally laid down with Quetta for nearly 15 minutes, telling her how much she was loved. There is no guilt with this one though - anything other than our decision would have been cruel.
It's been a very rainy week - odd for mid-January; it should be snow, not rain. Aside from the blizzard before Christmas, there has been no snow to speak of the entire winter. Kind of worrisome.

It's been a very rainy week - odd for mid-January; it should be snow, not rain. Aside from the blizzard before Christmas, there has been no snow to speak of the entire winter. Kind of worrisome. That is how it is here in my part of Kentucky. We have more rain than snow during the cold months. It really just depends on the temperature when rain moves through the area. Our freezing temps come and go, mixed inbetween Autumn and Spring-like temps. The really cold temps usually only last for a few days, or up to a week at a time. Then it warms up for a bit, then cold, then frigid, then warm again. The temps like to toy with us, never letting us get used to the cold, and teasing us about Spring before dashing our hopes over and over. We’ve had a few days in the high 50s and mid- to high 60s off and on of late. Nights getting up into the 50s. But it’s only mid-January, so those temps will soon drop once again. The temps in Autumn and Winter and Spring are a roller coaster ride until Summer takes over . . . and then ends. And then we’re back on the roller coaster.

We've been consistently in the high 30s to low 40s for the highs, and right around the freezing mark during the night - both are too warm for January here. My daffodils are not just sprouting, they're about three inches tall, and Hubs swatted mosquitos flying around the yard the other day!
The temperatures did drop yesterday though, and all the rain we've been getting changed to ice and snow. It's just below freezing now, and supposedly it'll be in the 20s for highs by the end of this coming week. It really needs to stay there through the rest of January and into February; this is supposed to be the dormant season for plants and insects. I haven't tried to dig, but I'm pretty sure the ground isn't even frozen.

We have a prediction of rain and snow on Wednesday, both this week and next week. The temperatures however are only at the freezing point for a short while, therefore I don't expect the snow to be around for very long, if at all. But, things change, and so do temperature predictions, so who knows.

You ain't wrong there Jox, the other day was so hot, and especially humid, that I considered but held off putting on the AC. Shortly afterwards the temperature dropped like a stone and we were hit by thunderstorms (parts of Melbourne, just over an hour away, were flooded) and in the evening I had the heater on, so in the space of a few hours went from (almost) having the AC on to instead having the heater on. Can't complain about not getting any variation in the weather I guess.

The temps can and do drop very quickly every now and again. Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning we had rain, rain/snow mix, snow, snow/rain mix, rain, snow, rain. Too funny watching Mother Nature change her mind again and again and again.

She's been consistent here since Tuesday evening, with one thing on her mind: Snow. The temperatures have been consistent too - right around the freezing mark, varying up or down just a few degrees. And zero wind!!! I did not mind shoveling at all yesterday; being outside, even for extended periods, is comfortable, and actually quite pleasant.
And it's soooo gorgeous. Last night, around 10:30ish, after Hubs went to bed, I fixed myself a nice mug of hot chocolate, and sat on the covered back porch, watching the snow fall under the light of the street lamp, and admiring the intricate details of every snow-lined branch. Quiet and peaceful.
I did the same this morning with my coffee - except it wasn't so quiet and peaceful. The tandem snowplows were making their rounds, and I was instantly startled by the hawk I've been seeing in the yard the past few weeks, as he swooped down and came within inches of nabbing Puffball the Squirrel without a Tail, who immediately darted beneath the woodpile she was sitting atop. Hawk flies off, and Puffball, apparently more angry than afraid, comes back out, sitting once again on top of the pile, and making her displeasure known with her scolding.
Have my boots warming up. Gotta shovel again what's out there, before it gets to heavy.

It got above freezing today, but the temperature will drop tonight, and stay below freezing until Saturday. My driveway is still covered, but my front porch and front sidewalk is clear. (I chopped up the ice on the front porch and steps yesterday.) I chopped up the softened sheet of ice on the upper deck of my back porch today — by jamming the edge of my snow shovel into it — I tried that with the lower deck, but the spots I hit were too hard, so I gave up. It will just have to stay there until Saturday afternoon. Starting Saturday, the temps will stay above freezing all next week. So, I won’t have to worry about dripping the faucets, or leaving the thermostat where it is.
I also read on the internet to not turn down the heat when going to bed to help prevent the pipes from freezing and bursting. So, I’ve been doing that. I’ll have to remember to call it in next week and have the tank filled up. It was at 50% last week, but at 40% today. I ran out of gas last year, and the gas company was so behind that it took them a week to get to me. So, I’m not waiting for the tank to get down into the low 30s or upper 20s. I’ll call Monday, as the roads should be all clear then. I want a “full” tank before the next bad weather moves through. (They only fill the tank to about 80/85%. I figure it’s a pressure thing, due to extreme weather conditions. Never been curious enough to do a 2-minute drill.)

It’s supposed to get up to 70F on Wednesday. The temps are all over the place. Some nights are below freezing. Nice weather for sinus problems. I now have 80% in my tank, (they never fill to 100%.), so no worries when another cold spell sticks around for a few days, or week. Got plenty of rain coming on days above freezing, so no having to deal with the aftermath of ice and snow. We get more rain than ice, sleet, and snow during the winters here. It’s like Mother Nature is playing Russian roulette with the temps and rain to see what we get when.

The temperatures have been really warm the last couple of days, and is predicted to get up into the 70s. But there are a few nights coming that will be below freezing, so we have a mix of seasons in one week. It’s raining right now. Winds are supposed to be high enough to cause damage as the storm passes through. I could lose lights. But maybe not, as a road crew came down my road yesterday cutting down tree limbs and sending them through a chipper. Hopefully that solved the problem of downed power lines. February is half over, and March will soon be here. Two more months of mixed weather, and temperatures. I wonder how many more snow days we’ll get before warm weather is here to stay?

I don't even know what season it is...and I don't think Mother Nature does either! It's like she's standing in front of her closet, trying to decide what to wear, and keeps changing her wardrobe because she can't make up her mind...and she's doing it quickly, ripping off one outfit almost as soon as she puts it on, before she's trying on the next.
BP and I were going to rent either snow-shoes or x-country skis depending on the trail conditions on her day off a couple of weeks ago. It was 15F - 10 degrees under what was predicted. Instead we found a cafe that made their own in-house bagels (best bagel sandwich I ever had!).
Later that week, Hubs and I went down to LX's and the Boyfriend's - the plan was to go to a nature center for a lovely walk along the river. It was warm - nearly 40F - but with a biting wind off the river that felt like icy needles piercing our skin. We ordered take-out Chinese instead.
Late last week, I had brunch plans with friends. It took me a half-hour to get into my car because it was encased in a thick layer of ice. Got to my friend's house for the brunch a bit late, and no other cars were there, which was strange because I'm always the last to arrive. The brunch plans had been cancelled due to ice and snow (the host sent the text to our house phone, which we no longer have, and not my cell). We had a lovely chat for a couple of hours...and ate brunch/lunch since she had enough food for a group.
Had to go to the grocery store this morning (I got locked in the vestibule!!! LMAO! I got in the vestibule, but I couldn't get into the store, or even back outside until somebody saw me waving my arms, and went to get a customer service person to reset the locks), just to beat the heavy snow that's supposed to hit soon - it's been exactly at 30F since I got up, with a icy rain mix. No snow flakes yet - we had those yesterday, when it was supposed to be in the 40s.
Our highs have been as low as the teens, and as high as the 50s, and it changes drastically overnight. No consistency in the temperatures what-so-ever. And She better make up her mind quick which outfit she's going to wear, because with all the cancelled outdoor plans, and eating instead, there's going to be nothing in my wardrobe that'll fit me!

Welcome to my part of KY, only have the temps go up and down, from the teens to the 70s, and back down. (Let's do the Polka!) My heat hasn't kicked on for a couple of days. Yesterday my house got up to around 72F, with sun, but I didn't turn on the ac. Today, my house got up to 76F, and that is with clouds blocking the sun, so I broke down and turned on the ac. Nothing like cooling off the house during the Winter. It's kind of irritating. Yeah, it is warm outside, but it's still Winter! Having the ac on in the Winter is such a strange thing to do. I finally have a nice warm house, which gets so warm I have to cool it down. Yeah. Frustrating.

We had quite the ice storm here late Wednesday afternoon and throughout the night. It was like a crystal forest here Thursday morning, with the wind in the swaying branches sounding like a concert of tinkling bells. As beautiful as it was though, hundreds of thousands across the state (I believe around 700,000) were left without power, and even days later, there are still huge swaths where it hasn't been restored.
The ice melted Thursday. And then it snowed. The snow melted Friday. And then snowed again during the day. We were covered again with snow yesterday. Now the sun is out, and it's in the 40s.
That is most certainly how it feels...especially inside my head! Like you mentioned in an earlier post, lovely sinus weather. My sinuses are doing the Polka...wearing really heavy, clunky shoes.

Continuing with the flip-flopping. Gorgeous day yesterday, all sunshiny and warm in the 40s. Pouring down heavy rain since this morning with no signs of letting up and windy, with the temperature just hovering barely above freezing. It's supposed to get to 40 degrees - my thermometer right now says 33.9F. Keeping fingers crossed it goes up instead of down. Had enough headaches around here with the ice storm last week.

Lost electricity. And the wind has been slamming my house for hours. It is 47F outside, and 67F inside. It’s been raining, and it’s cloudy, so no sun heating up the house. The sun has been keeping my house warm for several days, and it’s supposed to be back up in the 60s tomorrow. Calling for snow next Friday. We shall see if that prediction changes or comes true.

The kitchen is starting to smell good. I've got some homemade chicken soup started that I've got to tend to soon. It is definitely soup weather!!! I've had this little red warning icon at the bottom of my screen that the winter storm is supposed to start soon. The whole lower half of the state is supposed to get hit. For our area, they're predicting 10-12 inches of wet heavy snow starting this afternoon into the wee hours of the morning.
So different then just the day before yesterday, when it was in the low 50s. I walked to the library, and saw one yard with blooming crocus - not even close to a flower I normally admire, but such at pretty sight after winter. At Hubs' lunch break, we just sat on the back porch, yik-yaking while basking in the sun, and watching the birds and squirrels. After his break, when he had to get back to work, I worked in the gardens for a bit, cleaning up what I hadn't got to last fall - in the sunny parts anyway; it was still quite chilly in the shade!
It's been a pretty productive week. Got the taxes done, and whoo-hoo, we fared better than expected. Finished my on-line class - it had been my goal to get it done before going back to work, so that's another whoo-hoo. Got my mammogram out of the way this morning, which had been cancelled last week when we were in the midst of the ice storm. Dental Dominatrix appointment is scheduled for Monday. Everything is falling into place for me to get back to work at the nursery.
Except of course, the one major hurdle - the weather.
Kind of a weird thing this week at the grocery store: it's about the only place I still consistently wear a mask; it is just way too crowded for me not to with Hubs' auto-immune issues. We're one of very few couples I know that haven't had Covid yet. I'd say maybe only about 20 percent or so of people in the store have masks on whenever I go. This week though, was a complete turn-around - nearly everyone was wearing them. Is the virus making a resurgence that I haven't heard about. I know there's some nasty stomach virus going around - could that be the reason. The complete mask wearing turnaround this week was just kind of odd.
Gotta go cut up my chicken.

It took several hours before it came back on. The winds had taken out a lot of lights in the electric company's areas.
I have gone without a mask at the stores a couple of times, when there were very few people, and we were spaced out. I feel weird without the mask.

We only got 3 inches of the 10-12 that they were predicting last week; it jumped the shoreline like the Lake Effect often does, and instead of us, inland got pretty well hammered. The snow we did get though was wet and heavy as predicted, so they were half right. It got above freezing on Saturday, and there was no trace of snow left by Sunday.
It's still been cold though, mostly in the 30s, but also mostly sunny. Boss Man called yesterday - as opposed to Boss Lady - and said we're starting back to work Monday. Boss Man calling is unusual - it means it's all outside stuff that the crew normally does before us garden center/retail people come back work.
Going back to work means it's Spring! Ha! Monday's forecast is for a high of 34F and snow.

We’re back to Autumn, Early Winter, weather here. Highs in the 50s, and lows in the 30s and 40s. Most nights stay above freezing, but one night is predicted to dip down to 30F. March tends to return to Winter weather after February’s warm spell. Whatever warm weather we get between now and May won’t last long. May is when the heat sticks around. Going from cool and warm to HOT.
Sunday is the time change. I hate how drastic the light change is, but I will enjoy seeing the sun going down at 7pm instead of 6pm. I’m going to try and not make a big deal out of it. I had a mini-meltdown a few weeks ago, and I don’t want to reenforce it. Hopefully next Autumn and Winter I can get through unscathed.
