hey guys. a friend of mine is trying to find a good, closeup picture of ares' belt buckle so he can complete his ares costume. i've searched and searched and can't seem to find any that are large enough to see the details or don't have some "property of xena museum" type thing stamped over it so you can't see the details. i sent him several where you can see the belt buckle, but they aren't close enough to show details, and he wants it to be as authentic as humanly possible. any help would be awesome. thanks in advance for any good pics you guys can find to help!

I just did a DuckDuckGo search for "xena ares belt buckle" and => this <= came up #4 in the list. Unfortunately it has the text you complained about but the text is light enough that you should be able to easily extrapolate what is under it. It would help if the image were larger too. Is that more or less what you are looking for? => Here <= is the entire list if you want to look further.

that one that came up as #4 is the one that he complained he couldn't see the details cuz of the words and it not being close up enough. the most i've been able to see on it is that the design looks like a demon with wings standing on top of an identical upside down demon with wings. the problem is, the good pics i've found of it, if you zoom in, the details are lost cuz of the pixels or some such thing (not a computer person so not entirely sure why zooming in screws up the quality) so i haven't seemed to be much help to him, sadly. i even tried watching episodes online from the later 3rd, 4th, and 5th seasons (that's the one he wants) but it didn't help cuz the camera never seems to get close enough to show any more detail than the pics i already sent him.

When you zoom in and the image gets pixelated it means that the original image is extremely small. What you really need is an original high resolution image. One that will expand past the boundaries of your display when viewed full size.
The only way to get that is to be able to access the belt buckle yourself and take the picture using the highest resolution camera you have available.
Where is the museum? If you or someone you know could actually visit, then you could get the picture you need.
Another thought, could you do an image capture from one of the episodes?

yeah, that. lol. see, i know nothing whatever about that stuff. ("that's very important!" lol) i think that there's not actually a museum. looking at this page, it looks like it's just a place for people who own cool props and stuff to show those off online without having to sell them. it does say at the top; "the free online museum for your movie props and costumes." i tried the screen capture, but my computer kinda sucks, and like i said, the camera never seems to get close enough to show details of his belt. times like this, i wish i was a computer expert that could digitally enhance photos without losing detail. -_-

A better picture than what Spock found is a tall order. Perhaps your friend can keep an eye out for comic-cons. There are comic-con's several times a year in more than one location. That might prove to be a good source for an Ares buckle.

The only way I know of to reliably enhance a small image is to use a scanner. You scan a small image using higher than normal DPI which makes a larger image. When viewed, the scanned image should be at least as clear as the original but much larger. On my scanner, 100 DPI is usually 1 to 1 as far as size is concerned. I usually scan documents at 300 DPI in case I need to read the "fine print". I have been known to scan images at 1200 DPI just because it's possible.

he's going to the comiccon in san diego, that's why he wants to get the belt done to finish off his costume. and yeah, mia, that's the early seasons belt, and he wants the later seasons one. which, i've told him, makes things more difficult. harder for me to find any new pics cuz my computer just died, too, so... yeah.
