There have been a few memorable tv series on the subject of post-apocalyptic survival over the years.
I discount series such as 'The Walking Dead' because, to me at least, they are more focused on the zombie aspect.
The first series which grabbed my attention was 'The Survivors'. Produced by the BBC back in the seventies and written by Terry Nation, it focused on the survivors of a mutated virus accidentally released into the air. It was for the most part well made and well-received, although some critics did complain that it focused too much on the middle classes. It lasted for three seasons. An attempt was made to remake it in the 2000s, however, after two seasons it ended due to the high cost of filming a 'silent world'. Every time there was traffic noise or a plane flew over they had to stop and wait.
The second series which I liked was called 'The Last Train'. It was a short, six-part story which, I suspect, suffered the same problems as the remake of 'The Survivors'. It told the story of a group of people involved in a train crash and surviving by being in suspended animation.
You'll find elements of both of these shows in DWF, although I've tried not to blatantly copy them. I wanted to try to focus more on the previous lives of the survivors and how they came to be where they are. By their very nature, tv shows tend to focus on the present adventures for entertainment purposes. Although they usually present a back-story, they don't tend to dwell on it unless it has some direct bearing on the present.
Anyhoo, that's a little history to DWF. Let me know what you think so far.
