Glad you had a great and spooky time. You can tell any spooky happenings in your countdown to Halloween thread.
The weather predictions have extended the 80s/60s until the weekend. There had been a 60s/50s one day next week, but it has disappeared. I’m fairly sure the second week of October will bring even cooler weather. Or the third week. Halloween is rarely a warm adventure.

Good idea - not spooky, but creepy.
Oh, how I wish the kind of weather we're having now would last all throughout fall. Nights in the low 50s, and days in the low 70s - it's absolutely gorgeous; the best kind of weather to be outside in my opinion. Fall colors are starting in earnest - I was selling a guy a few trees yesterday, and he asked if one of them was "unhealthy" because the leaves were starting turning yellow. I tried really hard not to roll my eyes as I explained that it is almost October, and that's what leaves do; this particular tree (a Paw Paw), turns yellow in fall.
Chipmunks are starting to gather seeds for winter storage - from inside the store. They've started to use the store as their playground, running in one door, chasing each other around, and out the other door. Heard a bunch of rustling in a far corner yesterday, went to investigate, and caught one of them in the act - he'd chewed through a bag of birdseed, and his cheeks were so full with it, I don't think he could have fit in a single seed more. "You'd better scoot before the Boss Lady sees you", I told him. He did. But he'll be back, I'm sure.

We have fall-like days, but then it's back to summer. Today, my walk to and from the mailbox had an autumn feel to it . . . until I was almost to my front porch, and then the sun came out from behind the clouds, and it was full blown summer heat bearing down on me.
We rarely have a warm Halloween, so I've no doubt the 80s temps will be gone soon.

It's been feeling like fall here too, and summery at the same time - though I think we're running about 10-15 degrees cooler here than were you live. Last week, mornings were in the 50s, with it warming up to the low-to-mid 70s during the day with lots of sunshine. I'd wear jeans to work, be hot by the time mid-day rolled around, and be too busy to take time to change into shorts. Gave up the jeans for shorts near the end of the week, and just dealt with goose-bumpy legs for a few hours in the morning.
The last few days though, it's been in the 60s both night and day, and very overcast. Sunday morning, we watched from the back porch while drinking coffee, a lovely rain fall. Then the fog came in, and looking across the ravine, yellow and orange leaves from the maples drifted through the mist. It was beautiful.
The porch is laden with pumpkins...and big gorgeous Dragon wing begonias. My annual pots still look too good, and I can't bring myself to dismantle them yet, so right now the porch looks like there are two seasons going on at once.

Last week’s predictions had this week mostly in the 70s/60s, with a few nights in the 50s and 40s. And then a drop to the 60s/40s. But now the predictions are going back and forth between 80s/60s and 70s/60s. So, who knows when Autumn weather will stick around. Spring and Autumn rarely have nice even temperatures. They both jump back and forth between Winter/Summer and Summer/Winter. I wish those six months were more prone to having warm temps in Spring, and cool temps in Autumn. Sadly, that doesn’t happen.

Next weekend predictions are: 60s/40s. The predictions from now to next weekend are: 80s/60s, 70s/60s, and 70s/50s. We shall see just how accurate these predictions are, as the 80s & 70s have been replacing the 60s predictions repeatedly. Who knows, maybe the 60s will decide to dominate during the week. We shall see.
And I bet that dad gum spider will make a web in the furnace before I need to use it in a few weeks. And then I’ll have to bother my BIL to remove it so that the blower will work. Hoping the spider makes its web somewhere else.

The weather predictions for here are:
Highs in the 70s and 80s, and lows in the 50s and 60s. Until Saturday, when the temps will drop to the 70s/40s and 60s/40s. The 60s moved further away with each prediction in the past, so we shall see just when they really will show up. They will at some point . . . unless the temps just suddenly drop to the 50s, and skips the 60s altogether. That would not surprise me at all.

Yeppers. Most of the 60s are now 70s. We shall see if all of the 60s turn into 70s before the weekend gets here. Hopefully, the 80s are done. Although it did get up in the 90s the other day.

My boss and I switched weekend days off work; she has to go to a funeral tomorrow, and I have plans with LX and BP today. It's very blustery, with a dark and dreary sky...which is perfect for what LX has planned - "a spooky photo shoot of us to pay homage to our vampire/witchy ancestors" (some of who are, based on birth certificates and inscriptions on the backs of old photos, from Transylvania, Romania).
Have no idea what this is going to entail, but they are on their way to "help me get spooky and go to shoot on location".
Going to be an interesting day.

Ooh. Spooky pictures. Don't let the imp know. You just might get an uninvited visitor photobombing you. And if you do, please do share. I'd love to see the imp out in the wild.

Now there are only a couple of 60s left. And they are so high, they could turn into 70s too.

That'd be just like her, wouldn't it - to photo-bomb our shoot? Have a feeling though, seeing the Imp out in the wild is something no one wants to experience!
Though we've had a few rainy days the daytime temperatures have been pleasant - in the 60s and 70s - but yesterday was in the low-to-mid 50s, and with the blustery wind and overcast sky, it seemed cold to be traipsing around the cemetery...because of course, that's where we went.
Ever-mindful of the graves, we climbed a big hill where at the top stands a giant oak tree, its trunk so big in diameter that the three of us together with arms outstretched could not encircle it. The Boyfriend was taking the photos, when suddenly we were interrupted by the weirdest noise - like a cackling chuckle. The Imp? No. It was two bald eagles! We don't know if we interrupted them resting in the oak - the leaf canopy was too thick to see any nest they might have had - but we were able to watch them circle, then fly away.
Very cool.

Oh, wow. The 60s that turned into 70s are now back to the 60s. The 40s that became 50s & 60s are now in the 40s & 50s. Sunday is 82F/59F. October has been unseasonably higher than normal. But Halloween is rarely ever warm, so maybe these 60s will be sticking around. We shall see. November is just around the corner, and it wouldn’t surprise me if this warm spell dropped it like it’s hot, and it turns off cold in the blink of an eye. It’s never just right for very long. It’s either too hard, or too soft. Too hot, or too cold. The cold will get here, you can bet your bottom dollar on that. It’s that time of year, and it will deliver at some point.

The combines are harvesting the soybeans. I’ll be able to see the traffic tomorrow on my road once again. The last week I’ve been wondering when the harvest would begin. The corn was harvested a few weeks ago. The once quiet is full of farm machinery noise. It is Autumn.

It’s 59F outside, and 67F inside. I turned the thermostat to 64F, and turned on the heat. Tomorrow is supposed to be 83F as of checking just now, so I’ll have to switch back to the a/c tomorrow. The rest of the days predictions was mostly 60s, but a few days have dropped into the 50s. The nights are mostly in the 40s, with a few nights in the 50s, and one night in the 30s. So, Summer plans on going out with a bang tomorrow, it seems.

Finally got it - our first dip into the 30s and our first overnight frost. We haven't been out of the 40s for the past two days, and starting out last week in the 70s, the 40s seem really cold. I have to start dressing warmer - it seemed to take forever to shake the chill when I got home from work yesterday!

It is 81F outside right now, but feels like 83F, and the a/c is going strong. The rest of the days on the weather app are in the 60s/50s days & 50s/40s nights. That one night of 30s is no longer. But, I’m guessing that Summer is finally done after today. At least, one can only hope. I’m getting tired of the up and down temperatures, and the effects it has on my head and sinuses. It’s dark at 6:00, but soon the time change will jump to dark at 5:00 within 24 hours. Here’s hoping they finally pick a time, and stick to it.

That wind is something else. A storm is headed my way, and that wind will have it here sooner than later. Supposed to be windy all night, and all day tomorrow. Things bang outside, like barn doors, and the house creaks. Sometimes it can sound like someone is walking around in the next room. I may have to turn on some music while I sleep. And hope the electricity doesn’t get turned off by the elements.

It is 57F, but feels like 53F. What a huge temperature drop from yesterday. No more 70s or 80s predicted, and the one night in the 30s is back. I’d say we are finally in the Autumn season.
I saw an explanation on how to get F from C, if you don’t have a converter handy. Multiply C times 2, and add 30. It will get you close to the F degree.
C x 2 + 30 = F - or - C + C + 30 = F
Let’s see what 25C will get us: 80F. Online converter: 77F
If you have a calculator you can get 77F from 25C like this:
25C x 1.8 + 32 = 77F.
So:
C x 1.8 + 32 = F

|
Post by Mini Mia on Oct 25, 2021 11:52:43 GMT -6
Math: 57F - 30 divided by 2 = 13.5C
Calculator: 57F - 32 divided by 1.8 = 13.88888888888889C
Online converter: 57F = 13.8889C

I woke at around 3.30am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. I came down at 4.30 and sat outside with a cup of tea. It's been so mild lately and this morning is no exception. The batteries have gone in the weather station and I need to climb up a ladder to change them so no idea what the outside temp is. It's 20c inside the house with no heating on.

Okay. Most of the daytime 60s turned into 50s, and about half of the 50s turned into 40s. Nighttime 60s and 50s will be turning into mostly 30s. October’s unusual warm spell turns into Autumn. The a/c kicks on every once in a while throughout these days, as it hasn’t gotten cold enough during the day to prevent the sun from turning my home into an easy bake oven.

Finally! Now that the temps have dropped below the 70s, the leaves are turning colors. I’ll be sad when the trees are bare. Only a couple months left in the year. I so hope the pandemic ends next Spring/Summer. Sadly a new Delta variant is out there.
I saw a news report made by some guy who has made accurate predictions about the virus in the past, and he claims the worst is over. I really hope he isn’t wrong this time. But even if he’s right, I’m sure it won’t be until 2024/2025 before the world can get back to a new normal. When we can feel safe being around others, and mingling without fear.

There has been some fabulous color here - big swaths of it on my way to and from work; I take different routes each way due to construction. All different shades of reds, and lots of green. Something was missing though, and it became some little weird game I'd play while driving to find it - yellow. Red is nothing without yellow; yellow makes everything pop. It wasn't until we started dipping into the 30s at night (it even got below freezing one night), that the yellows - soft butter, bright sunshine, and rich golden - started showing up. The oranges came with the colder temperatures too. My drive yesterday was a spectacular display of autumn! I don't know if we're at peak color yet - or if we'll get there because it's so late in the season - but it's pretty close.
Very windy today. I'll have to bundle up for work - it's not supposed to get above the forties this week.

I don’t know why anyone bothers with weather predictions. Half of the daytime 50s are now 60s. The nighttime 30s & 40s with a few 20s have now dropped the 20s altogether, and added a few 50s. The weather is a fickle web of deceit. It waxes and wanes within seconds of a prediction, and makes them obsolete the moment they are written down for the world to view.
At around 1:00pm, my niece’s dog came over for her daily snack of dry dog food and treats. The sun was warm, and it was nice. About an hour later, when I went out to investigate her barks, the sun was hidden behind clouds, and it was quite chilly. So, that’s how the weather rolls. One minute you’re nice and comfy, and the next minute you need to bundle up.
Dog is okay. She was laying in my sister’s front yard, barking for attention. She is way old, and has a lot of problems. Fell down a slope a few weeks ago, head down the slope and butt up the slope, and couldn’t get up. Barks were obvious calls for help, and I got her help. So, whenever I hear her barking, I check to see where she is, and what’s going on with her. She tends to bark once she’s at the barn, to let me know she’s on her way for snacks and treats. And I fill up her bowl as she barks her way up my driveway to my house.
When she was younger and healthier, she would go back and forth between three houses. My niece’s house, (after my niece moved into Mom’s house), my sister’s house, and my house. But she doesn’t seem to have the energy to go back to my niece’s house anymore. Since my sister and I live on our farm, and our driveways are connected. We don’t have to worry about her going back and forth here on the farm. But she has to get on the road to go back home, and it’s best she doesn’t do that anymore. Sadly, she’ll probably have to be put down at some point. Until then, she’s living her best life keeping me on the alert for her cries for help.

True. I usually just look at the thermometer, and dress accordingly. Even that doesn't always work, of course.
Beautiful sunrises and sunsets this past week - with all the colorful leaves, everything glows. Nights are in the 30s, daytime highs in the 40s. We got a bit of snow mid-week, but no accumulation - it melted as soon as it hit the ground.
The garden center is closed, (though customers keep trickling in for last minute stuff) and the mad dash to get the nursery put to bed before winter has begun. That means no more weekend work days for me - strictly Monday through Friday!!!
The wild turkeys are flocking in the woods and field, and this year there are two odd additions - a couple of peacocks! There is a guy down the road behind the woods on the far side of the nursery property (all these years, and I didn't even know there was a house back there) who started to keep all kinds of fowl. The peacocks occasionally join the flock of turkeys in the field. There's also a flock of guinea hens too that walk up the road and hang out in the field - their beautiful plumage does not match their creepy-looking heads! And the weird noises they make!
Glad she's ok. "Living her best life" is what matters, and what a whole lot of people strive to achieve!

Now that the soybeans are gone, the field is an open space. Before, when the dog tried to cross the field to go home, she’d try and find a way through the thickness. Moving back and forth, repeatedly. And I’d go get her and have a treat so she’d follow me to my sister’s house. So it worries me now that there’s nothing blocking her. I try to make sure and check which direction she heads in when she leaves here.
She doesn’t always go directly to my sister’s house when she’s finished her snacks and treats. She sometimes takes detours. I guess her nose distracts her. She’ll get to the barn, and make a left instead of a right. She’ll circle the dumpster once or twice. If someone has parked close to the dumpster, she’ll circle the vehicle once or twice to see if a human is inside. And eventually she’ll head too in the right direction.
As for weather predictions. 60s & 70s for the highs 30s & 40s for the lows. One night in the 50s. At the end of the next week, the highs drop into the 40s & 50s. We shall see how well these predictions hold up. Right now, it is 60F outside, and 71F in the house. Either the sun has shifted south enough not to roast my house, or it’s cold enough outside to prevent the house from overheating. The nighttime lows probably helps with that too. It’s nice not to need heat or air. Saves on my electric bill.

Pretty photographer's photo of our town in its Autumn glory taken from a drone above the lighthouse earlier this week. It's easy to see in the photo how the Black River got it's name, especially in comparison to the Lake Michigan waters and the water in the lighthouse channel. Our house is the one on the right hidden amongst the trees. (snicker) www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=563730078266668&set=a.376423483663996Actually, if a photo was taken from the same view today, you'd probably be able to see the house. After a few days of wind, rain, sleet, grauple, hail, and snow, most of the leaves are gone from the trees, leaving a ton of yard work to do....and no time to do it this weekend. Rain and snow predicted to continue through Monday.
