The three Sarah J. Maas series' are all connected. How? Answers are most likely coming in the newest books in the Crescent City & A Court of Thorns and Roses series'. Books 3 & 5. CC/ACOTAR. Not sure if the Throne of Glass series is finished, or if there will be a spin off series that will show how the three series' are connected.
It has been suggested to read the series in this order:

I read the Throne of Glass series first, and then the Court of ... series second. Whichever series you read first, be sure to read the Crescent City Series last.
Sarah is working on Book 5 of the Court of ... series. It should be read after the 3 Crescent City books.
