Portions are hidden for spoilers. Highlight to read... I knew it when Jack met that guy at the stadium! I just knew he had to be the guy in the hatch! For once I predicted something about this show! I got the feeling about halfway through their conversation but when he said, See you in another lifetime," that was all the confirmation I needed. ;D What do you think will be their explanation for Walt appearing to Shannon? I know he can't be dead, because he's too important to the story. Could it be his special powers allowing him to appear to her? I thought of the possibility of him coming back with 'The Others' and then escaping and finding her, but he was dripping wet, and would have dried off by then. This episode lends to the theory that their purpose for being there is to help them overcome fears and to better themselves, but of course that might be what the writers want us to think.

Yeppers... I too figured it would be the same guy. Also, when a house is under quarantine, the signs are on the 'outside' to keep anyone from going 'into' the house. So, since the sign was on the inside, it means that the outside in under quarantine.

I thought it was weird that the sign was on the inside. I wonder if the outside is quarantined because of a disease (as is usually the case with quarantines) or some other type of danger, like the "monster," or perhaps something that drives people insane. Obviously, Desmond knew that he and Jack would meet again, and I think it's a fair assumption that he knew they would meet on the island. So I think the only two possibilities in this case, unless I'm missing something is, (1) He had a part in bringing Jack there and is probably even one of the "others," or (2) He is merely psychic and just knew what was going to happen. I tend to believe #1. Also, I wonder how long Desmond has been down in the hatch. It looked like the place had been there for at least three or four decades, with that very old computer and music, played on an old -looking record player, and all those rusted, leaky pipes. Sure, all record players are pretty old by now, but that looked older than any I've ever owned. Based on how relatively recent his meeting with Jack was, he would have to be immortal (or very slowly aging) and be traveling back and forth from the island either physically or metaphysically(?), if he is the one who built the underground dwelling. But of course, it's very possible he could have found it, but then what happened to those who occupied it before?
