Had an extremely cool experience yesterday - the chance to meet one of my favorite authors, Sue Grafton. She writes the Kinsey Milhone mysteries - "A Is For Alibi", "B Is For Burglar", etc. She spoke at a local library about the "alphabet series", and about getting started as a writer. Gams, I so wish you had been there! She was fascinating to hear. And it was cool, getting to see "Kinsey" in the flesh!

Thanks for the song Phalon! didn't know you were so gifted in the lyrics department lol! Yeah I read most of the things on here when I am on, though don't always feel qualified to answer them!

How cool, Siren. I think I read one of the Kinsey Milhone books - they sound familiar - but I can't be sure. Thinking of which author I'd like to see speak; I don't really have a favorite. I'm sure Barbara Kingsolver would be interesting. "Pigs in Heaven" is one of my all time favorite books.
Vox, there are no qualifications needed here; your resume can be a complete blank.....like my head most times.

Vox said you ask for it....don't you know to be careful what you ask for - you just might get it.
One hundred posts of Moonglum's on the wall, One hundred post of Moonglum's.. Take one down, Pass it around, Didn't your mother ever tell to not to write on the wall?
Ninety-nine posts of Moonglum's on the wall, Ninety-nine posts of Moonglum's Take one down, Pass it around, Don't blame me, I was on the other side of the room.
The song lyrics never made sense to begin with. What'd you expect? An improvement?

Been a couple of those kinds of days....those sighing days. April showers are making me sour. The drip we had in the bathroom earlier this year turned into a downpour. So many peaks and valleys, and different roof lines on this old house, it was never discovered exactly where the water is coming in. And it's been storming here; raining nonstop the past two days.
The leak is not in the bathroom - that is just the outlet. It runs along the walls, bubbling paint, across the drywall seams in the ceiling, dripping along the way, until it makes its way out the overhead lighting fixture in the bathroom, (thankfully we have another fixture on the wall - the dry wall). Gurgling sounds on Wednesday morning turned into a gusher. Argh!!!! Wonderful way to spend my day off work. I had pans and buckets all over the place to catch the flow. Hubs had to cut a whole in the ceiling to release the water before it got to the fixture, and we kept two big Rubber Maid tubs underneath that filled in the last two days.
Today the fix-it guy came. Says he's figured out where on the roof where it's coming in. Says he can fix it. Hasn't given us an estimate yet.
I'm estimating it'll be a sh!tload.
And to make matters worse - this is the #$%! bathroom we remodeled - gutted it down to the studs and rebuilt from the floor up. It couldn't have been the bathroom upstairs that needs refurbishing, and is the next room on the list. Nooooooooo, of course not. Grrrrrr.
Off to the shiny new bar and grill for a drink or two.

Wishing it were so, Siren. Just one of those "grrrrr" moments that I had to get off my chest. Probably all stems from that time a couple weeks ago that I opened the umbrella in the house. That's supposed to be bad luck, no? Thinking it cursed me, giving me a reason now to use an umbrella in the house.
I'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain... ..watching all my money go down the bathroom drain.

Breezin in, breezing out.
Hey everyone. how goes it? I just got back from an exciting week in Denver. Whooo pah! I need to collect myself and do a rearview on the small town mouse in the big city. I rode these amazing moving sidewalks. You just won't believe it!
Okay, dokey. Hope all is swell in Xenaville.

Who left the window open? It's suddenly breezy in here. And a mouse got in - a small town mouse.
Hiya Gabbin. Glad you lived to be able to rearview the big city.

Whew! What a strange week. We've been so busy at work, it's insane. LX was sick Thursday with asthma problems, and I ended up taking her to work with me because we've just been too swamped for me to miss a day, and Hubs had appointments he could not reschedule. LX stayed at the bosses house, next door to the nursery all day. She had the whole house to herself, and made herself right at home, playing the piano, making popcorn, investigating "strange noises" in the basement, and ate with the bosses and family, (it's a family-run business), when they came home for lunch; I'm surprised she didn't ask or get asked to stay for dinner. It wasn't the best of situations; I'd have rather been able to watch her breathing like a hawk all day at home, but I was able to pop in and check on her throughout the day.
One of my co-workers has been so tired after work, last night she paid her kids two dollars each to go to bed early, so mommy could get some rest. I thought this was hilarious. Damn, I wished I'd have thought of that; I wonder if the girls would fall for it? I'd go broke though, in no time at all.

Katina.....do you read in here? Can't think of another place to put this without starting a new thread, and why waste perfectly good space?
Just wondering....
I saw on television last night a bit about the Sydney Harbor Bridge climb. ACK! I don't think I could do it - my fear of heights would get the better of me, I think. Have you?

I'll just talk to myself a little more in here....
We've always wondered how much we actually walk in one day at work - estimating about 3 or 4 miles; about 5 on a busy day. Yesterday, I took Hubs' pedometer to find out.
Thursdays are not particularly busy days - not slow, but nothing like Friday through Saturday, when it seems we can’t sit down to catch our breaths.
At the end of the day, the pedometer read 9.82 miles – over 20,000 steps I stepped. Way more than I imagined! Damn, I was tired just thinking I’d walked that far - far more tired than I'd be if I didn't know how much I'd walked. I went to bed early just because.
I’m not ready to strap the thing on this weekend; I’d probably drop dead from exhaustion as soon as got home and walked door. Definitely a case of Ignorance is Bliss.

When you consider that health experts were suggesting 10,000 steps a day as a worthy goal, Gams, you DESERVE to feel tired!

I've got the power!
Whew! We've been without electricity since a storm blew in Thursday afternoon - interesting couple of days these have been.
Amazing what kind of stuff piles up when you don't have electricity - much to do, (ick- the stuff in the freezer/fridge needs to be pitched, and the whole thing scrubbed.) Gotta run.
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.
Later, Sweet Taters.

I remember when we'd lose electricity when was a kid, way out in the country. Mama would get the coal oil lamps down from on top of the refrigerator, pull off the bags covering them, and cast our dark house in to spooky flickering shadows. She laughs, remembering those days. Says she had to be careful not to turn around too suddenly, or she'd step on one of the 3 little quail (me and my sisters) who were right on her heels till the electricity came back on.

It's a fun and a tiny bit scary adventure when you're a kid, Siren. That's the way LX and BP looked at it. Or almost romantic in a way. Candlelit dinner, and fireworks afterward....and that was just the beginning. Too bad it was hot-dogs eaten by candlelight, and the fireworks were lightning flashes in the sky. First night we spent at home in complete dark - and it turned dark about six o'clock with the storms - except for candles, and an eerie florescent glow from a camping lantern. The second we stayed at friends' house (with electricity) out in the country surrounded by woods. They were gone for the weekend and kindly offered their house.
That could have been romantic also - and it was, in a way....sitting out on the porch swing, no sounds but those the crickets were making...and the "whatcha doing out there?" coming from a child's voice through the open window. It was nice though - kind of like camping in the woods with all the amenities of a nice hotel.
But no matter how romantic it seemed, or could have been, the storms left nearly 90,000 in West Michigan without power - we were one...or four, depending on if you're counting households or people - of those 90,000, (depending on who's counting). We were lucky - only two days, and about 60,000 are still without...maybe more if they're counting people and not households, (eye-roll). Their electricity will resume sometime this week. There is a point where all romanticism flies out the window, and it becomes a chore.
And a pain. Grocery shopping was painful - $300...ACK!

ACK! I seem to do that a lot in this thread. Just about eight hours to go....my knees are already wobbly, and my stomach queasy. I've got to get up and talk in front of a group 50ish people tonight for a program we're giving at the nursery.
Double ACK!
Just getting these hairballs out before I speak this evening.

Thanks. I did well; didn't pass out anyway, and they laughed...when they were supposed to. No hairballs, only a frog caught in my throat. And that was okay - it was a seminar on diversity of natural landscape in this area; the frog caught in my throat just added to the ambiance.
We also had a guest speaker from the land conservancy who was fabulous. It was a nice evening, but lasted a lot longer than expected - I just got home about an hour ago.
Long day, and now I must finish my homework assignment: "In a Million Words or Less Describe Your Scholar." I had a week to do it; I started it about a week ago, and have done anything with it since. It's due tomorrow. Sheesh...they go back to school, and I get homework? Something is wrong with this picture.

Will someone please remind me next time what I always tell my daughter, the scholar, and the subject of this assignment, when she has an assignment due....
Shoot, I forgot...something about not waiting until the last minute.
Do as I say, and not as I do. Mom's Handbook: page 764.

Damn, damn, damn...I knew this would happen; I am so easily influenced. Day Five of this vicious cycle I am got caught in since staying up until 3am this past Saturday. Tired the next evening, I went to bed at 10ish. Up at 3am, wide awake.
Same story all week. Exhausted when the alarm rings....about an hour after I get back to sleep. Made worse after working all day, with the dark coming earlier with the season, it makes me all the more tired the next day. To bed early again, or ick - falling asleep watching television, and here I am, when I should be there - in the bed.
yawn...... Maybe now. I've still got little over an hour left before I have to get up.

LMAO, Moonglum....hysterical, sleep-deprived laughter.

Feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world. Or at least feeling functional, and ready to tackle the laundry.

Thanks, Siren....still not completely back to a normal sleep pattern yet, (thought I've always been kinda off in that area), but definitely better than last week. What a mess that was; I can't believe I got screwed up and into that weird pattern so quickly - I can't either imagine having persistant insomnia.
