Post a list whenever you get around to it. There just might be something on there I've been dying to read that I forgot about when I made my list. Even if there's not, I'm open to reading just about anything.
We could do that; we sort of started that way with "To Kill a Mockingbird", and even with "Emma" I'd post here and there as I read by my lonesome (just teasing!). Adjust as we always do as we go along.

Your List:
A Tree That Grows in Brooklyn (Betty Smith) <--- Found under my bed.
Their Eyes Were Watching God (Zora Neale Hurston) <--- Heard of, and interested.
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (Maya Angelou) <--- Heard of, and interested.
Catcher in the Rye (J.D. Salinger) <--- Heard of, and interested. (I don't think I read in school.)
The Crucible (Arthur Miller) <--- Liked the movie. It was mentioned on "Molly's Game" several times and wondering if that's a sign we should read.
The Kite Runner (Khaled Hosseini) <--- Heard of, and interested.
And Then There Were None (Agatha Christie) <--- Read years ago, and wouldn't mind reading again.
I Am Malala (Malala Yousafzai) <--- Heard of, and interested. Definitely one to consider.
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (Rebecca Skloot) <--- Heard of, and interested. Definitely one to consider.
The books under my bed are there because the woman who gave them to me did so without the deceased woman's family's permission ... so I put them in storage containers and kept them under my bed should the family ask for them back. That was way back in the early 2000s. Most of the books had movie stars on the jackets, so they were made into movies. A couple of the books are plays, not novels. One book was 'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.' Another one was, 'Endless Love' by Scott Spencer. Most of the books are really old hardcovers. Ooh. One is a collection of short stories by Daphne du Maurier.
I went through my TBR piles, and picked out some as suggestions:
Peter Pan The Hobbit The Simarilion
The Complete Sherlock Holmes -- Vol. 1 & 2 The Complete Edgar Allan Poe -- Vol. 1 & 2 The Complete Poetry of Emily Dickinson --- and of Robert Frost The complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm
Swan Lake
Philomena --- I loved the movie.
The Last of the Mohicans --- supposed to be different from the movie.
Ethan Frome
Speak --- loved the movie.
Jane Eyre --- already read, but would read it again, if wanted. Withering Heights The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
Mrs. Dalloway To The Lighthouse A Room of One's Own Three Guineas
East of Eden --- one I would really love to read one day.
White Oleander
Christy by Catherine Marshall --- read ... watched the TV show and have on DVD. Wouldn't mind reading again.
Extras:
I have, and have read, all of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books. I have all of the Anne of Green Gables books. I have all of C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia books. I have a huge Lord of the Rings trilogy book.

Oh ... I have Rebecca. I've read the book, seen the movie, and wouldn't mind reading it again.

In addition to the ones I mentioned that you're interested in reading, these are my thoughts on your new additions...
(lumping these together because they're all by J.R.R. Tolkien) "The Hobbit The Simarilion I have a huge Lord of the Rings trilogy book." - I've read The Hobbit, and have seen the first movie in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and parts of the second. I'd prefer choosing something different unless you have a strong preference toward any of these.
Peter Pan, I would read.
The Complete Sherlock Holmes -- Vol. 1 & 2 - would read, but any volume I could find at the library probably wouldn't match yours exactly, I'm guessing.
The Complete Edgar Allan Poe -- Vol. 1 & 2 - I love Poe, and have read a lot of his works.
The Complete Poetry of Emily Dickinson --- and of Robert Frost - poetry isn't really my cup of tea, but I'd read if you were interested.
The complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm - fairy tales are always fun to dissect!
Swan Lake - since any book is adapted from the ballet, we'd have to make sure we were reading the same adaptation, I'm thinking.
"Philomena --- I loved the movie." - I haven't read the book or seen the movie, so I'd be interested.
"The Last of the Mohicans --- supposed to be different from the movie." In all honesty, although it's supposed to be a "must-read" classic, I've got no interest in it.
Ethan Frome - I'd read.
Speak - I haven't read the book, or seen the movie. Actually, I never heard of it. I drilled though, and wouldn't mind reading.
"Jane Eyre --- already read, but would read it again, if wanted. Withering Heights The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" I've never read any of the Bronte sisters' works, and would be interested in reading.
"Mrs. Dalloway To The Lighthouse A Room of One's Own Three Guineas" Aside from a few short stories and essays, same with Virginia Woolf - I haven't read, but would be interested.
"East of Eden --- one I would really love to read one day." I read this one in high school, and though I remember the gist of it, and even parts of it clearly, the story as a whole is vague in my memory. I'd reread if you'd like.
White Oleander. I've never read, and would be interested.
"Christy by Catherine Marshall --- read ... watched the TV show and have on DVD. Wouldn't mind reading again." Now that you mention it, I think I remember that TV show. Wouldn't mind reading the book.
"I have, and have read, all of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books." I don't think I have the books anymore, but I read them when I was a kid, and some of them again when LX was a kid. Would prefer to skip reading again, if you don't mind.
"I have all of the Anne of Green Gables books." I've read Ann of Green Gables multiple times, and have seen the movie more than once also; I've read "Anne of Avonlea", and I think but am not for certain, the third book in the series. Aside from "Ann of Green Gables" since the story is so familiar to me, I'd read any of the others in the series - but you'd want to start at the beginning, so maybe this isn't the best choice this time around?
There's lots to choose from though, and how do we decide?!
Oops, I missed this one: "Oh ... I have Rebecca." I haven't read or seen the movie, and would add it to the list of 'would reads'.

Oh...
We could definitely do that. Maybe we each do it, and have your draw as our first choice, and mine as a back-up; at this time I'd like to avoid buying a book, and if the book you draw isn't unavailable at my library, perhaps the library would have the second choice.
I wonder if Moonglum and/or Stepper would also be interested in participating, and I could ask Scrappy since she joined in on the 'To Kill a Mockingbird' discussion?

I'll add one to the hat draw for you, I've heard that The Art of Racing in the Rain is a good read. And yes, I'll join in. I don't have time for this, so I'll have to make time for it. But that's the point - I'm often overcome with events that require attention to the point that there's rarely time for "me". I can use the change even if it is short breaks.

The more the merrier.
As for the Sherlock Holmes Volumes ... We could just pick one of the stories in it. Not sure if the volumes only have short works? I haven't checked to see what's in there in a long time, and I never bothered to Google to see what they were.

I think that would be a good one too to add to the list of choices. I had to look it up - after seeing just the cover, I remember one of the guys in our writing group a few years ago, saying what a good book it is.
"Me" time is ever-so-important, and when a person is being pulled in all different directions and stressing over things they can't control, they should not feel selfish or guilty for taking some time for themselves. It's a reset.
I think the only Sherlock Holmes story I've ever read is "The Hound of the Baskervilles".

Yeah, I'd be happy to join in. I've got all the Sherlock Holmes short stories and the novels. I did start writing a Sherlock Holmes short story, based on an unsolved murder, some years ago. One of those 'bottom drawer' projects that 'I'll finish sometime'.
I don't have much of a home library any more. A while back the office/library became the railway room and sadly there was no room to keep a lot of the books I had. I'd have to see if my County Library card is still valid!

Ooh. I bet the two volumes are short stories. I knew they couldn't be the complete works.

I'm pretty sure mine is expired also; it seems like forever since I've checked out a library book! I'm going to the library on Saturday for my writers group meeting (I should probably start writing something....soon), so I can renew the card then - and possibly check out a book for this discussion we're now discussing?
Should we just go with Sherlock Holmes since you two already have some (or all) on hand? Ooooo, maybe we each pick a Sherlock Holmes short story, and read and discuss each one?

The two volumes contain four novels, and 56 short stories. The short stories are divided into five books. So, I have nine books.

So....Sherlock Holmes? We'll need Stepper's input, but it seems as if it's something that might appeal to everyone. I haven't heard back from Scrappy, but I know she's busy with work stuff.
When I go to the library, I'll check what's on the shelves by Arthur Conan Doyle - I imagine there's got to be something available. I might go today; there's a program this afternoon I was interested in attending, but dang! The weather is so bad even walking the two-three blocks it takes to get there isn't very appealing right now. The program might even be cancelled - same thing with Saturday's writers group meeting; last time I checked, the forecast for tomorrow is just as bad as it is today.

We can still draw from a hat ... or bucket ... or pile. Pick a SH’s novel or SS, and add it to the list of what everyone likes in all of our lists.

So....Sherlock Holmes? We'll need Stepper's input, but it seems as if it's something that might appeal to everyone. I heard the actual air temperature at International Falls was -22F (-30c). I wouldn't want to go near the door with those kind of temps, let alone actually go someplace. About picking which one to read, I figure I'm on the bus to ride along and enjoy the view as opposed to being driver. Translation - pick one and I'll go find it in some library someplace. Or a used book store. <== he has his reading glasses on!

I'm not sure why I'm finding this funny, but I am - I literally laughed out loud when I read your posts, because I got an image in my head of us all sitting around a table with a plate in the center containing one last ooooey-gooey chocolate chip cookie, and nobody wanted to make the first move to grab it.
We can discuss which book we're going to discuss as long as it would take to discuss the book...and then once we pick a book, we can discuss how we're going to discuss the book just as long!
So, I'll make the first move (I've never been able to resist chocolate chip cookies!)...
Before the Sherlock Holmes discussion came up, I'd written all the titles we had so far to include Stepper's addition on pieces of paper, folded them into tiny wads, and threw them into a bowl.
<shakes bowl vigorously, and reaches in, grabbing the cookie...er...a folded piece of paper>
Da-da-da-da. <----drumroll
<unfolds paper>
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (Rebecca Skloot)
We can go with that. Or not.
It's up to you guys!
(This is a really good chocolate chip cookie, btw. Want some?)

(This is a really good chocolate chip cookie, btw. Want some?) WAIT!! .. goes back and rereads posts.. I don't remember any mention of ooooey-gooey chocolate chip cookies (he says while sliding up to the table) - now, somebody has to volunteer to taste test this thing and make sure it's not going to offend anyone by being too ooooey-gooey or soft or tasty and that's right up my alley. I'm a good taste tester when it comes to chocolate chip cookies! I'll make sure that it's up to our high standards (mmmf mmmf - you'll have to ignore any slurred words from here on - I'll be busy taste testing.) By golly, your right! It WAS a darned good one! Um, perhaps we can get another one so everyone else can judge for themselves - but of course this means another taste testing opportunity.

Surely you weren't gone so long that you've forgotten about the cookies.
We always have chocolate chip cookies!
You're talking about those outdoor mailbox-type things (for lack of a better description. Some of them I've seen are quite elaborate!)? We've got one a few blocks from here. I've rarely used it though, just because it's in the opposite direction from everywhere else I go. I have added books to it, but have never taken anything - every time I've browsed through what's in there, it's been mostly children's or "how-to" books.
Since I was at the library yesterday for our writers group, I renewed my library card - it expired 5 years ago!!! I also checked their computerized card catalog for "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" because I didn't know which section to look for it - Biography? History? Science? Medicine? Ethics? The library had two copies of the printed book, and one audio-book. Both printed books were very beat-up, worn and dog-earred for library books - I checked out the one in the best condition. Even if we don't choose this book for our discussion (have we decided for sure?), it's one I've wanted to read.

I was taking the situation as having moved on - picking from the bowl being the agreed upon method of selecting the book - and you while being tempted by the oooy-goooy having effected the choice for us - have resolved our group indecision. At least - that's how I read all those posts. I'm already looking things up. Sounds interesting to me - I wonder if the base library has it. Hmmm. (I bet they don't have chocolate chip cookies - oooey-gooey or otherwise.)

I know, I know. I'm still laughing about it really, because (and I don't think I'm going out on a limb by saying this) I know Joxie and I are both notorious procrastinators, and if it was just she and I, we honestly could have talked about discussing books without ever choosing one for quite a while. Someone had to make a move, yes?
If it doesn't have a physical copy, you may be able to get it through the library as an e-book. Our library also has a couple of e-book services - if you have a library card, you can download the e-book for free (I've never used it, because I still prefer a physical book). I'd assume most libraries offer similar programs.
It should be mandatory.

The Town City Council moved into the empty bank building, and someone opened up a library in the old Town City Council building. It's just two rooms, or was the last time I was there. There was talk of finding a bigger space. I hope they do. There is another library in a big empty Church building in another town in the county, but it was closed every time I went by there, so I never got to go in and look around.

Ooooh, I see...not a Little Library (actually, they're called Little Free Libraries; I just drilled because I wasn't sure of the name), but a little library.
It'd be nice for the town if they did - libraries are such great places; they're gathering places, and resources for so many things other than just books. Although I had let my card expire, I still made great use of the library over the years.

I went to Alibris.com and got a used book for: $1.99 + S&H $3.99 = $5.98 ... which is supposed to be in pretty good condition. The seller got 5 stars, so I feel good about the purchase. I've bought from the website many times, and I don't recall ever being put off by any purchase.
