Ooooo, that trilogy sounds interesting. How are you liking it?
I'm reading "Chicken Soup for the Gardener's Soul"....or at least, it's sitting on the end table, waiting to be read. One of my customers gave it to me a few weeks ago, but I haven't gotten around to starting it yet.

The one good thing to come out of all the rain we've had is the time to read. I've read a couple of Dan Brown books but the one I'm reading at the moment is The Five by Hallie Rubenhold.

Who would have thought, four months on and I'm still into Dan Brown. I have read both 'Angels and Demons' and 'The Da Vinci Code' and enjoyed them both. I did detour via a Tom Clancy novel which wasn't written by him but features all his characters. I felt it had too much of a 'corporate churn it out for the masses' feel about it. I didn't enjoy it much. The book I mentioned earlier 'The Five by Hallie Rubenhold', was a very interesting book. It's about the five women murdered by Jack the Ripper and the amount of research the author has done is quite astonishing. It caused uproar amongst 'Ripperologists', who hated the fact that their long-held beliefs might possibly be wrong. It's not a book that tries to work out the Ripper's identity, it focuses solely on the victims and their lives prior to their deaths.

I've been known to discover an author and then buy up all of their books and read them back to back. My posts in this thread is proof of that.

I can't read an entire series back-to-back like that, no matter how much I enjoy the story. I usually either get bored with the style of writing or with the characters, and just want to finish to be done with it. I'm better off reading a couple of books in a series, moving on to something else for a while, and then coming back to the series later. I'm the same way with authors - I've gotta mix it up.
I've been reading a lot of nonfiction and short stories most recently. Honestly, I can't remember the last novel I've read (that I haven't read prior). Maybe "Law of Nines" by Terry Goodkind sometime this past summer? It was shortly before he died, and I kinda almost felt bad I hated the book.

I’ve only had that problem with series’ that I lose interest in during weaker written books. A few of the ones where I forced myself to keep reading, instead of taking a break, is because they were either borrowed, or it was the last book. Plus, once I start something, I have to know how it ends. I don’t care how bad it is. I have to know, or it will churn in my head for ages as I try to figure it out.
Each book ended with a new story, or, a new event, starting/heating up, and the beginning of each sequel book began where the previous book ended, right in the middle of the beginning actions, setting the next story into action. The sequel series is in that same world, but the main character isn’t Rose, which disappointed me. However, she was a part of the first series, so I already have a connection to her. And it involves other characters I care about from the previous series, so it has my interest. Whether or not the books can keep me reading one after the other will depend on how much I come to love Sydney. I already like her, but not enough to prevent me from taking breaks when I need to eat, sleep, get on my laptop and phone. The action and love story hasn’t reared its ugly head yet, so we shall see how involved I get once that of all pops up.

Rose & Dimitri wouldn't go quietly into that good night, so I'm rereading the first book series. And I just learned that the book series will be a new show on Peacock.

So Joxie, I gotta ask because you've been reading all these Vampire Academy books and short stories...which do you like better, the Twilight series, or the Vampire Academy series. They're kinda the same premise in a way, yes?

I love them both, but at the moment I’m really into the VA books. I’ve read the Twilight books, seen the Twilight movies, a lot, so I’m kind of burnt out at the moment.

At the moment I'm reading 'The Great Book Of Amber'. It's an omnibus of all ten books in the Amber series by Roger Zelazny. I read a couple of the books when I was younger but never managed to find all ten. Then recently I discovered they'd released all ten in an omnibus edition. It is a mighty tome and makes your wrists ache reading it. These youngsters don't know what they are missing with their Kindles. Arthritis, rheumatism!
