I just finished reading "Orphan Train" by Christina Baker Kline.
Sort of. No, not really. Not even close.
BP asked me to proof read a book essay that was part of her final project for a history course - Children in American Society or some such thing.
Now I want to read the book.

The Outsiders - Wow! I loved that book! It's been over 40 years since I first read it!!! It was required reading when I was in Jr. High, and I know I've read it more than once, but I don't think I've read it as an adult. I should give it a revisit.
I watched parts of the movie on T.V. once, and hated it, probably because I liked the book so much.

It was never required in any of my classes. I’ve seen bits and pieces of the movie, so wasn’t quite sure what it was about. Goodreads has recommended it off and on over the years, and I’ve mentioned the author in threads because she was a teenager when she wrote and published the book. I decided it was time I should read it, and I enjoyed it very much.
Movies are rarely ever better than the books. Sometimes the movies can be downright infuriating. Especially when they leave out, or rewrite my favorite scenes. Or when they add in new scenes that stick out like a sore thumb, just to leave their mark on the project. Most movies aren’t at all loyal to the books. They claim they want to surprise the book readers, otherwise they’d get bored. Which proves they aren’t book fans. Fans of books want to see the story play out as is. They don’t want any changes to surprise them. They love the story in book form, and have probably read it many times, so seeing it as a movie is a bonus. Fans would never get bored with a movie that was 100% from the book. Unless the cast and crew did an awful job making it.
Okay, rant over. I gotta cover up that button. I plan on checking out the movie next time I see it on TV. I was thinking of making a board for the book/movie/TV series. I didn’t watch the TV series either.

Oh. My book had reader questions. I can post them in a new thread, I guess. They might also be on the author website. I’ll look into that when I’m on my laptop.

Vampire Academy has been airing lately, and I’ve been watching it repeatedly. I love the actors who play the main characters, and now I’m craving the books. My second read last year bogged down by the time I got to the last book, and I didn’t bother rereading the second series. I’m wondering if the books will bog down again, or if there’s been enough distance to enjoy them as much as I did the first time. As many times as I’ve reread the Twilight series, they didn’t bog down until about the fifth reread. But that’s because my favorite part of the series is once Bella is turned, and I want to get to her vampire life asap. I’ve reread part three of Breaking Dawn tons more times than I’ve reread the whole series. I want more vampire Bella, but Stephenie Meyer has stated Bella’s story is done.

"The Cry of the Crow" by Jean Craighead George, author of "Julie of the Wolves" (and countless other books).
The book wouldn't have been something I sought out myself to read. When LX, BP, and I had our Summer Solstice Celebration, we went on a scavenger hunt, ending up at a little nature center a few blocks away - on the way back, we walked past one of those "Little Libraries", which is kind of like a big mailbox in which people put books to share. BP picked out "The Cry of the Crow" for me, because I love crows.
It was a good, fast read - geared, I'd say, to the preteen age group. It's been sitting on the coffee table since our celebration, and I finally picked it up last night and read it.
Horrible, horrible ending though! The horrible ending was made even more horrible, because the copy I read is missing the last page - it's very clear it's been ripped out! I checked on-line, and at least it's only one page - my copy has 148 pages; the book is 149 pages; I could not however find a digital copy of the book on-line. Guess I'll have to go to the library, just to read the last page of the story.

Since I’ve been itching to reread the Vampire Academy series, I decided to get out the Vampire Academy’s Ultimate Guide first. This book has recaps of all six books. As I’m reading each chapter, I am getting the meat of each book. I’m not sure it’s lessening my itch to reread the books. I think the itch is getting stronger. It’s secondhand information, and not a part of the action. We shall see. Three chapters/books down, three to go.
