Eirene - I'd love to have only six weeks off. Here, I usually end my season from mid to late Novemember, then don't go back until sometime in March. It's great not to work in the winter, but towards the end of the off-season I start itching to go back to work. Usually we´re at home from end of november ´til the mid of january. Then we start to potting the young plants. we´re ready with this end of may, the starts selling for the others ( for me the time to work alone for alomst 4-5 month--- i´m the binder of 12000 plants - this year ) At this time you work so many hours, that you can be 6-8 weeks at home. At every other nursery the people got workless for this time. Eirene

Hey Gig, Thanks for the Birthday Banner I actually had my birthday off from work. It's the first time that I can remember in a looonng time that I wasn't working on my B'day. The way last week's and this week schedule is I had sunday, monday and today off. It's been a long time since I had three days off in a row (where I wasn't driving to my Mom's). Three days just for me. Now that's a great present. Hope everyone is having a great week. I put on a big batch of strawberry smoothies for anyone interested. Enjoy LS

Three days off is a GREAT present, LS! I should put in for my vacation. I could use a few days off myself. You're welcome for the banner. I'm just glad I wasn't late putting it up. Thanks for the smoothies. That hit the spot. Enjoy the rest of your 3rd day off!

Thanks for the smoothie, Lucystar. <grabs one of Dixie's cookies>. Thanks too, Dixie. You'd think I'd have learned my lesson after eating those that Scrappy left me. <sniff> These smell safe though.
Wow, yours sounds like an interesting job. Not that I could do it. Theater is something I'd never imagine myself in, in any form. Shoot, I'm a nervous wreck just talking in front of a small crowd. And behind the scenes, I'm such a klutz I'd probably drop the curtin by accident before the performance was over.
Hhmmm...winter? In many ways my least favorite season. The cold. The wind here is horrendous off the lake. If there is snow though, I like it - it seems warmer somehow with snow. It's just that winter is so long here - and so dark. I couldn't live without it though, and would hate to reside in a place where it never got cold or snowed.

Phalon, wanna trade? The average temperature here in october last year was 80. I'm getting pretty tired of having only two seasons. Really flaming hot and Not so hot. Time to move. We havn't had snow in winter in 15 years. Oh well.........I'm just whining a little. Anyway, I did promise a truce on baked goods. So eat up.
Night all.

It was fall here for a couple weeks, then warmed up, now it's back to fall again. It's raining today and quite chilly. Somehow it still feels comfortable . I have a certain fondness for waking up in darkness, as long as I'm not tired. I also managed to get the flu, another sure fire sign that it's almost fall. People always tell me fall is supposed to be the healthiest season but it's the worst one for me. Great season though. I cant say it's my favorite because I like them all and usually my favorite season is the one opposite the season were in. I love orchards though and were hitting prime orchard time pretty soon.

Hiya Dobs, hiya Scrappy. I see you around. Care to share a drink?
I know what you mean, Dobs. Same here with the fall on again, off again thing. Mostly been the kind of weather I like the best - high sixties to low seventies. Perfect weather for work...very comfortable working outside at the nursery. Been enjoying it at home too - finally tackled the overgrown mess that's been my garden - looking good again. Walking in the evenings or at night is the best. Chilly, yet not uncomfortable. Geeze, I wish this type of weather could go on for months.
Orchards....ahhhh, nostalgia. I love apple picking. A throw back to my kid-dom days. Back then the apple orchards were full of huge trees - not the dwarf or semi dwarf kinds today. You had to find a tree with a ladder, then drag it around the orchard to the "best pickin' tree". Dad would toss the apples down and we kids would try to catch them.
Now, every year we take the kids apple picking. A day of fun. Hayrides, apple cider and cinnomon doughnuts. I can't wait. We have to go at least a couple times a season. My favorite are McIntosh - very early - one of the first apples to ripen. Hubs and the girls like Honeycrisp and Yellow Delicious - a couple of the later ones. No one minds, though, making the multiple trips.

Ah, your fall sounds gorgeous Phalon! All that apple picking sounds heavenly. We had a small orchard at the house I grew up in, it had apple, pear and greengage trees...we also had a very fruitful walnut tree in our garden and walnuts always remind me of autumn. I used to love late August/early September when I was a kid because after all the wheat was harvested the farmers used to let us ride the horses over the stubble fields for a couple of weeks before they were ploughed over. Nothing beats miles of fields to gallop over. Its the nicest time of year to ride too, once you get into winter it gets freezing cold and muddy and you have to spend forever washing out muddy horses and tack...yuk! I gotta work now...laters. dixie

Happy Birthday, Eirene! Cheers. Hope you enjoy.
Ah...so it is Labor Day weekend here. A three day weekend for most, unlike me, who will be laboring away most of the weekend. Which reminds me...I should be getting off to bed. Work in the morning.

Morning all, (well, at least its morning here). Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. My day off today - whew! So busy yesterday and it was sweltering outside. The plants looked great - it was me that was wilted.
It's supposed to be another hot one today - perfect beach water.
Scrappy - how fast to you have to eat icecream where you are, (where the heck are you anyway?), before it melts? I hate drippy icecream.
Well, off to referee the girls. Sigh...bickering over which music to listen to. If they don't stop, I think I'll dig out my old Molly Hatchett tapes and force them to listen to that. Flirting with Disaster, they are.

Hello everyone!!! I wish everyone of our tribe a very nice night! ;D By the way, do you know on which person Xena remember myself very often?! It was a mighty queen - she has lived before over 1500 years ago. But she was the blonde one and her friend - she was the black haired one. Sweet dreams for everyone! ´til tomorrow! Eirene

Good morning all. I started the coffee this morning for whoever drops by. Also left some bagels, cream cheese and fruit for those of you that eat breakfast.
Holiday hours today at work and I don't have to be in until 10a. Whoo-hoo. Leaves me a bit of time to play this morning instead of the usual mad-dash to get out the door. Of course, I could be doing something constructive like laundry or watering the garden, but the laundry is not going anywhere, although the pile may grow before I get around to it. The plants aren't going anywhere either, although unfortunately, they aren't going to grow before I get around to watering them.
Wishing everyone a happy Monday.
