The Sooners are Big 12 champions! They clinched the regular-season conference crown last night, with only one Big 12 loss this year (darn Texas A&M!). Last night was Senior Night, the last home game for Carolyn Winchester, Ashley Paris, and our amazing 3-time All American, Courtney Paris. Needless to say, it was an emotional evening. It's always hard saying goodbye to players you've watched since day one. But these 3 have contributed so much to the program, and are such great young women, it's even more poignant. Courtney, Ashley, and Carolyn's post-game speeches at Senior Night were touching and profound. Those are three high-quality young women. Courtney made me cry when she talked about what the university, and her team, and the fans had given her, and said, "I've tried so hard to give back." Ashley made me proud when she talked of struggling to read when she was in the 8th grade, only to soon graduate with honors at OU. And she, too, made me cry when she said, "I've lived in Courtney's shadow for 21 years, but I would do it 21 more." Carolyn moved everyone when she said, "All my life, I dreamed of being a Sooner." As Coach Coale said, Carolyn was a talented multi-sport high school athlete who was offered scholarships and lots of playing time at other schools, but chose to walk on at OU. She never got many minutes, but worked her way into a scholarship, and into the hearts of her teammates, who voted her Captain this year. These seniors have left an indelible mark. As the Sooners' website said, "The trio represents one of the most remarkable class of players in women's college basketball's history. The 2009 OU seniors are already own the best four-year record any Oklahoma team in history and need just six wins to become the winningest Big 12 seniors over a four-year span. OU has been ranked in the Top 25 every week of these seniors careers, a first for any OU graduating class." soonersports.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/030309aaa.htmlHere's a recap of last night's game: soonersports.com/sports/w-baskbl/recaps/030509aaa.html Now, on to the Big 12 tournament!

Yay! Congratulations to the Sooner Gals!
Wow, Siren, how cool. It's kinda sad though, when it gets down to the final games of the season to see the seniors go....especially when you've followed their ups and downs their whole college (or high-school) careers. But you gotta believe they'll do well on whatever path they chose after graduating.
We won a piece of that Lottery Pie, Stepper....a whopping three dollars. Hubs bought five dollars worth of tickets.

Congratulations to your gals Siren, must have been a very emotional evening. Could you give someone [ that would be me ] who's ignorant of the system there, a quick heads up. Have they won the equivalent of out footy "home and away" season and are now into the finals [ the Big 12 tournament ] or what? Sorry to be such a dork.

We won a piece of that Lottery Pie, Stepper....a whopping three dollars. Hubs bought five dollars worth of tickets. Ditto. I looked on line at one of the sites. There were 40,714 who hit the power ball and one number. I only spend 4 dollars on it, but it's still a loss. Sigh. Maybe next time.

That's not a dorky question, kat. (6 words!)
Not a dumb question at all. I wish I had an answer for you. I know for sure that OU, as champs, don't have to play in the first round of games in the tournament. I don't remember whether they have a second-round or third-round pass as well.
The Big 12 plays the toughest schedule of any conference in the nation. In-conference play is brutal, with one tough opponent after another. Five Big 12 teams are currently ranked in the top 25 nationally. So, to have to play those same tough opponents, game after game in the tourney is very taxing. Some conferences don't play a conference tourney at all, which I think gives them an advantage, heading into the NCAA tourney. They just have to be fresher than teams that do play a conference tourney.
Thank you again, guys, for indulging me on my basketball. I do appreciate it. It would be such fun if we could be on Gabbin's couch together, passing around the Cheetos bag, watching a game. (Gabbin used to wish we could watch "Xena" together, sitting on the couch, eating Cheetos.)

Took day off, completely wasted it.

Siren! Need to borrow your rice-bag!
Oh, geeze....we've run the full weather gamut in the last week. High temperatures in the teens to begin with; climbing into the sixties by Friday; torrential rain on the weekend; cold again yesterday, and today, more rain. Everything but snow...and that's supposed to come tomorrow. My sinuses don't know how to act, and are arguing about it now.
Oh! The pressure! Head's gonna explode!

Brother's coming tonight. Cleaning frenzy today.
It's only my brother, right? But I am the older sister, and supposed to set an example. Pfft. Now where's that mop.....I know I had one at one time or another.

Without company, house wouldn't get clean.
Brother wasn't attacked by dust bunnies.
Whew! I got the house cleaned on time for his arrival; I'll consider this my spring cleaning. He didn't notice the sparkliness, of course. The frenzy was more for me, than it was for him - sometimes I need a push to push those dust bunnies out the door.

I thought they were eliminated already.
Something I read here about a loss? I must have misunderstood, and glad for that. Yay for them, and glad they're still in the running for the championship! Go, Sooners!
Shudder. Thanks for the clarification, Joxie!
For a minute there, I thought that weirdo magnet was still attached to my back.
Mine for the day:
Off to Chicago with Hubs soon.
and...
Rain and wind in the forecast.
Should I have expected anything other?
