Wow, Katina - you must be living on Cloud Nine ecstatically! Way to Go Cats!
And, and...the Wolverines won today, beating Minnesota 58-0, and bringing home the Little Brown Jug, (gotta love those college traditions). They're 5-0 so far! It's been far too long since they've opened a season so well.

It was painful at the end on Sunday night, Siren. I'm hoping for a little more cohesion tomorrow night. Did you see how much Courtney got to play??

What can you say? They fell apart, I think "choked" would not be too harsh a word here. Angel shoots the ball too much when she's off. When she's on, she needs to shoot, but when she cools off, she doesn't pull the team into her to regroup. She just keeps shooting and it's like a shootfest. Dribble down, shoot, dribble, shoot blah blah!!!! AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!
Even on their own court Friday night, I'm not sure it won't be three & out.

Well, rats, Q. I had high hopes. But it seems that is was just meant to be for MN to win their first-ever championship. I must say, I'm happy for Seimone, especially. She is a wonderful player. This has been a long time coming for her.
Now I can concentrate fully on the NFL. I savor this season. It doesn't last near long enough, unlike baseball season, which never seems to end. And my Chicago Bears actually won tonight, AND on tv! They often play horribly on tv. So, what a treat this was. I love this time of year!

Kat! I know it's been a couple weeks now, but something tells me you won't mind rehashing the memory... Congrats to you and your Cats! My local public broadcasting station covered the AFL this season and I was able to watch four matches, I think, with two of them involving Geelong. I came across the Grand Final by pure accident in the second quarter and once I realized it was THE final, I opened a cold adult beverage (maybe more than one) and sat glued to the television.
I can so easily see why you love the sport. I can also easily see why American football can't catch on internationally. Watching AFL is a little depressing, to be honest, because it makes my own football look, well, weak. Embarrassing really. Last year, this station covered Gaelic Hurling and I was fortunate enough to be on the Emerald Isle for that championship. It was fun to get into Hurling, another physcial, fast-paced romp, but your footy was so easy to grasp and so much fun, I'm disappointed the season's over. Well, super glad your Cats took down those Pies with that crazy final period, but sad it will be a long time before I'll see the sport again. Gaelic Hurling last year, the AFL this year... I'm looking forward to the next 'exotic' sport next season.
I wish I knew the song everyone was singing at the end so I could have joined in! GO CATS!

Kat! I know it's been a couple weeks now, but something tells me you won't mind rehashing the memory... Congrats to you and your Cats! You'd be right about that for sure Lola, I'll be talking about it and watching the replay until, well until next season kicks off I guess. And thanks for the congratulations. My local public broadcasting station covered the AFL this season and I was able to watch four matches, I think, with two of them involving Geelong. I'm looking forward to the next 'exotic' sport next season. Really glad you had the chance to see it, and that you enjoyed it so much. Been a footy tragic for just over half a century now and still never tire of it, an amazing spectacle unlike any other code. At the end of last year a lot of "experts" wrote us off as being to old, to slow and past our prime, and having one of the oldest lists in the competition I guess that was a fairly reasonable assumption, but that, as you say, crazy final period put paid to that theory. Been an almost unbelivable five year era, with a league record 105 wins from 125 matches, four Grand Final appearances and three flags. Was a long wait between 1963 and 2007, including five losing Grand Finals, but we've well and truly made up for it now. I wish I knew the song everyone was singing at the end so I could have joined in! GO CATS! Here ya go then, so you can belt it out next year when we hold a fourth cup aloft ........................ We are geelong, the greatest team of all, We are geelong, We're always on the ball, We play the game, as it should be played at home or far away our banners fly high, from dawn to dark down at kardinia park! Go Cats.

Ah, kat, now I wish I knew that song, too. Makes me want to throw an arm over a friend's shoulder, holding a cold beverage aloft in the other hand, and sway back & forth as we sing among the happy throng.
I am really, really happy for you, and am glad Lola got to get in on the fun, too.

Hope your gals can emulate the cats this season and carry off the big prize, would be a fantastic double wouldn't it. P.S. Watch out for that flying pumpkin.

Since our two-time All American point guard, Danielle Robinson, graduated last spring, this is a major rebuilding season for the Sooners. It's not just replacing DRob; it's learning to play a different way, now that she's gone. She was so fast, she would usually get at least ten points a game, just by out-running everyone else down the floor. Now that she's gone, the Sooners are having to play a more methodical game, working together to score.
So, if my gals can learn to play together, and make a respectable run through the Big 12 season, I'll be happy. A national championship would be truly miraculous. But, hey - anything's possible!
Thank you for the good wishes.

Thank you for the good wishes. That sounds uncannily familiar Siren; we lost our best player at the end of 2010, and had to also tweak our playing style, not just because of losing him but because other sides had worked at choking our free flowing, play on at all cost style of footy, which was one of the reasons we failed badly in last years finals. We didn't abandon our game play entirely, just tinkered with it, and the rest as they say, is history. Which makes me think anything is indeed possible, seeing another Premiership cup in the trophy cabinet this year is testimony to that, so dare to hold the dream.

Hello, kat - I have been neglecting this thread, for sure. A little catch-up, as requested.
First, it has been a sad week in Oklahoma sports. Last week, the head coach and assistant coach of Oklahoma State women's basketball were killed, along with two others, in a plane crash while on a recruiting trip. Coach Budke and Coach Serna were well-loved by the players and alumni of their team. Thousands attended a memorial service today in Stillwater.
Thank you for the confidence in my OU gals. They're awfully young this year, but show heart - they came from behind to beat New Mexico IN New Mexico (no small feat) over the weekend.
In college football, both the OU Sooners and the OSU Cowboys lost last week. With only one loss, the Cowboys still have one of the best records in the country, and have had an amazing, record-setting season. The "Bedlam" game (arch-rivals OU vs OSU) in a couple of weeks should be interesting, for sure.
In pro football, my Chicago Bears are playing well, but got terrible news over the weekend: our quarterback broke his thumb, and is out for 6 weeks! Good lord. Somehow, after 20 years, the Bears still find new ways to break my heart.
But after the bad news from Stillwater last week, I feel funny even joking about having a broken heart. Coach Budke left behind a wife and three children, a college-age daughter and two younger sons.

Yes, very sad about the coaches. I read the story at work on Sunday. That program has had its share of tragedy.
Arkansas lost a red-shirt freshman football player over the weekend, as well. Garrett Uekman was found unconscious in his room. Nothing was suspicious but they are doing an autopsy.
On a brighter note...
My Arkansas Razorback football boys are 10-1 and looking pretty spiffy right now! Check this out from a couple of weeks ago...
Just like I taught him!

I didn't know that you're a Razorbacks fan, Q. How did that happen? Arkansas is a long way from where you are now.
That was a terrible blow, losing that young player. His poor parents.

Really sad news about those who died in the plane crash Siren, as you say it certainly puts things in perspective. Fingers crossed for your OU gals, as well as your Sooners, Cowboys and Bears [ sheesh ya sure have a lot of irons in the fire ] with a bit of luck maybe one or more of them can give you the same joy the mighty Cats have given me. Kat! I hope that you used our Thanksgiving Day as an excuse to eat way too much, nap at-will, and watch plenty of sports on tv. My family certainly did. I got not only my share of turkey, including my beloved cold turkey-on-white-bread-with-Miracle-Whip-and-lettuce-sandwich, but my fill of football as well. Two games were boring defensive struggles, but the Packers game was pure fun. We had a really nice day.

BOLL!!!!! For everyone but a Lions fan, I'm sure. I didn't watch the game or read about it but I already knew the outcome before it started. Everyone one knew the outcome just as they do every year way before the traditional Detroit vs. Whoever is playing that year Thanksgiving Day game, (though the Lions are better this year than they've been in a long time.)
Opposing Team - an unbelievably high score for football. Detroit - an unbelievable miserably low score.
I wonder how/why the Lions always play on Thanksgiving?

So they can go more than seven days without losing. I'm not a big sports fan, but all of the teams I'd root for are out of the plays offs or out of the running for a play off spot.
There's always next year.

LOL! Good for you, kat. You earned all that relaxation. Enjoy!
Not a good weekend here, sportswise. ALL my teams lost this weekend: Sooner football (humiliated by loathed in-state rival Oklahoma State), Sooner women's basketball (lost a close one with #17 Ohio State), and Chicago Bears (lost a low-scoring but entertaining battle with Lola's Kansas City Chiefs). *sigh* As the old saying goes, I shoulda stood in bed.

The Sooner women FINALLY won a game, after losing THREE in a row! Gad. They haven't lost three consecutive non-conference games since Coach Coale's second season, umpteen years ago. *shaking head* I suspect this is only the beginning of a loooooong season.
And my Bears just threw away a game against Denver yesterday, and let Tim Tebow make another remarkable comeback. Say what you will about Tebow (and I'm not particularly a fan), he's doing his job: winning.
