Actually, I really enjoyed your (now mine, too) footie. The length of many of the kicks is amazing; the players' control of the bounce while hand carrying was cool and obviously quite a skill. What I still don't get is why one would purposely go for a behind. Help? Please? scamp Go Cats!! Could you expand a little on that Scamp, a lot of behinds are kicked while attempting a goal but missing, though players don't purposely go for the behind. Unless you mean in defence, where a defender will rush the ball through the oppositions goals for a behind to prevent a possible goal being kicked. Kat, sorry for my lack of clarity. I did mean using a behind as a defensive move -- one concept (among many) I don't understand. scamp Go Cats

Thank you, guys, for your interest andsupport, and, in the end, Gams, sympathy. The softball Sooner gals ran into a very determined, spirited Alabama team that had come frustratingly close the last couple of years. This year, they got it done. Honestly, I think OU was a better team. But I also think they were pretty cocky coming into the finals, and thought it was going to be easy. It was, in game 1. But Alabama regrouped, and as the old sports cliche' goes, wanted it more than OU did. They never gave up, and cheered each other on throughout games 2 and 3. Commentator Michelle Smith (a 2-time gold medal Olympian pitcher, and former Oklahoma State Cowgirl) said that when it comes to the crucial moments, she'll take will over skill. I think Bama's will was greater than OU's.
All the Sooners' starting players but one are coming back next year, so the future is bright. It won't be easy to get back to the Big Dance. But they have all the tools they need to do it, and will have this experience to remember.
*sigh* Dang it.

Much the same story here Siren. Instead of 'Go Spurs Go' it's Gone Spurs Gone - and there isn't really a good reason for how they totally collapsed.

Kat, sorry for my lack of clarity. I did mean using a behind as a defensive move -- one concept (among many) I don't understand. scamp Go Cats No worries Scamp, kinda figured that's what you were referring to. And don't worry about not understanding the rules, been following the game for over half a century and they still confuse me at times. Sheesh Siren, reckon I would have come up with something stronger then that. Really sorry for your gals, it's a lousy feeling when you come so far only to fall at the final hurdle. Same with your Spurs Stepper.

Kat, Put me out of my misery! What has befallen our Cats? Tis the season over? scamp Not over Scamp, but not looking all that flash either at present. We're currently sitting seventh on the ladder [ need to finish top eight to play finals ] one game clear of three other sides who are nipping at our heels. Seven games left before finals, and we have a tough run, with five of those games being against teams above us on the ladder, starting tonight with a must win game against Essendon. I'll keep you updated ................ fingers crossed. Go Cats.

Righto you two, you can uncross everything now.
Best sustained four quarters of footy from the cats for ....... well almost the entire year to be honest, rolled back the clock to 2011 and pasted the hapless Dons [ Essendon ] to the tune of sixty seven points.
There's life in the old dogs .... errrr Cats, yet.
Go Cats.

(sound of uncrossing joints cracking...) Kat, you will tell us when to cross everything again, right? scamp, off to limber up Go Cats Sorry to put you through that. We've actually had another game since the one I posted about [ Essendon ] it was on Saturday arvo against Adelaide, who were second on the ladder, and the boys came through with flying colours, securing a twenty seven point victory. Great effort, especially as one of our best players got knocked rotten in the first ten seconds and took no further part in the game, and another missed the second half of the match because on injury. Big game Friday night, and I mean BIG, against the team currently favourites to win the premiership, so if it's not asking to much some time Friday afternoon would be very much appreciated for crossing everything once more. Go Cats.

Well, did say it was a BIG game and that's how it turned out. Played sensational footy in the first quarter to grab a forty five point lead, extended that to fifty one with the first goal of the second quarter ...... then kinda got the staggers and were only seventeen points up at the long break [ half time ] Surrended the lead with about six minutes to go in the last quarter, stil four points down with the ball deep in the enemys forward line and about forty seconds remaining, Mackie marks an errant kick, passes to Duncan, on to Johnson who spears an unbelivable forty five metre pass to Selwood in the middle of the ground, Selwood takes the mark and plays on with a perfect pass onto the chest of Tom "Tomahawk" Hawkins fifty metres out from goal. The big cat looks to pass the ball but there's no options so he goes back to take a shot at goal; puts the ball on the ground, places the mouthguard in the sock, picks the ball up and starts his approach, the crowd is hushed, yours truly has his finger on the button of the remote control ready to change the channel the instant the kick looks like being off line, the siren sounds as Big Tom steps to the fifty metre arc and launches a massive kick goalward, going, going, going .................... GOAL!!!!!!!!! the crowd erupts, seventeen Cats mob Big Tom in a display of euphoria, the defeated enemy slump to the ground in disbelief as the realisation sinks in, we've beaten them again in another nail biter, by two points, with the final kick of the game after the final siren. Yours truly feels like he's been run over by a very large truck [ can't be good for the ticker but what the heck ] A replay of the game starts almost straight away, finishes at 1PM so it's gonna be a late night [ morning ] but no way am I gonna miss watching and recording it, this is one to truly savour. Winnin' is better then losin' that's for sure ............... Go Cats. Video number eight [ the curse continues ] on the right of the page shows the last three minutes ................. www.afl.com.au/tabid/16931/Default.aspx#fixtureid=7813&tab=RecapGreat story in that link Siren, hope the kid does well, he deserves a change of fortune that's for sure.

Thanks, Kat. Me, too.
Good gravy, Kat - that was some kind of kick for "Hawk The Hero"! What a thriller ending! And what a massive, massive stadium. Must be amazing for the teams playing in front of all those folks.
GooooOOOOO, CATS!!

Yep, the MCG, or "The G" as it's affectionally called, holds around one hundred thousand people Siren, great stadium. Well a weeks a long time in footy, last week the images were of Big Tom ecstatic after kicking the winning goal, yesterday it was him convulsing face down on the ground after flying for a mark, falling awkwardly and hitting his head on the ground. Escaped with nothing worse then concussion thankfully, but losing him early on probably cost us the game, going down by a mere five points as we did. Gotta win Friday night ............. Go Cats.

Was trying to avoid this Scamp, coward that I am.
Our season finished a couple of weeks ago when we were knocked out in the first week of finals, *sob* First time since 2007 that we've failed to make it at least as far as the Preliminary Final [ third week of finals ] so it's looking ahead to 2013 for us now.
Go Cats.

Aw, Katina. A big hug for you and your Cats!

No, seriously, sorry the season didn't end better. Just give me the date, and I'll start crossing my fingers that next year is better.

Can think of nothing better, a good book and a plate of Vegemite sangers, not sure if it will help us to victory but it's a dang good excuse [ not that you need one ] to get stuck into that great Aussie delicacy Sorry to hear about your team mate. Thanks Step' never nice when your team falls over, but as the hackneyed old saying goes, there's always next year. Go Cats.

Cold comfort I guess, but at least we had some consolation yesterday when our reserves team won the Premiership.
A flag is a flag I guess, even if not the one we were hoping for.

Well rats, kat. Hmmm, that doesn't sound right. But I hope you sense my sympathy. Indeed, a flag is a flag, unless it's a black one (stock car racing disqualification), a white one (surrender), or a Jolly Roger (Aaaargh! Pirates!).
Meanwhile, my Sooner gals will start a new basketball season in a few weeks. But for the first time in many years, I won't renew my season tickets. My work day ends at 6pm, which makes it difficult to get to the stadium by tip-off. And, most days, the trip is now too difficult for my mom, my most faithful gameday buddy. We will still be able to see some games on tv. But the times, they are a-changing. And I'm not too happy about it.

Thank you, Step. OU's stadium has too many stairs for my mom. She worked in a factory for many years, and the repetitive motion and physical labor have left her with a lot of arthritis. And the hour-long drive to Norman is uncomfortable for her, too. She toughs it out for the big games, though, like OU/Baylor or OU/Texas.

Thank you, Kat. If only I had a magic wand that could pop you over for an OU game, and I could pop over for a Cats game. Wouldn't that be a blast? I would eat a semi-edible pie, and you could have a genuine Okie chicken-fried steak. What a time we would have.

That Okie chicken-fried steak sounds appetising for sure, though think I'd have to shout you a really decent gourmet pie, someone who appreciates their food so much shouldn't be subjected to the pies they sell at the footy ..... unless you really want that "footy experience."

LOL!! Exactly, Kat. I wouldn't feel I had truly experienced footy until I had had a semi-edible pie, emphasis on the semi-edible part. I'm sure it's like having a hot dog at the baseball game; it's as overcooked as it is overpriced. But somehow, it really hits the spot at the time.

Two days before the season kicks off, well it actually kicked off last weekend with the first part of a split round, but doesn't officially start as far as I'm concerned till the Cats go into action, and that happens on Monday the 1st of April. Think I saw somewhere that it's shown in the states, not sure which channel, so check your guides and you may be lucky. I'll have questions afterwards, and also expect a one hundred word minimun essay on why it's the greatest sporting spectacle on planet earth. Go Cats.
