Well, some use large pieces of foam that they cut, shape, and glue or staple together.

You could find shorts the shape and color of Gabrielle's, and do a foam belt with flaps hanging in the front. Can find a halter top that's basically the same shape and color and do the design in foam. Can tie, glue, or staple it onto the top. Could work.

yeah that sounds like it may work. we'll just have to find stuff in the right color. stuff that color isn't exactly the style at the moment.

Could always go with the peasant skirt and blouse like she wore in the first season. Might could find them in a boutique that sold vintage clothes from the 60s, when those long dresses were popular with the hippie types. Something hotter? Plenty of midriff-baring tops around that could be paired with a skirt of any length. Or you could have the party in a hot tub and wear what Xena and Gab wore there LOL!

LMAO, we do the hot tub thing a lot! though not a party. she reeeeeallly wants this exact costume though. guess we'll just have to come up with something. thanks for the good suggestions!

Can go with papier mache for the belt & top design. You'd probably want to have at least 3 or more pieces for the belt, and drill holes and tie them together. Then drill holes in the flaps and tie them to the belt. Should allow for a person to move about without breaking up the papier mache. Do the top design in two halves, and drill holes and tie them together, to make movement easier.
Can do a search for "papier mache recipes" or "papier mache projects" to find similar designs to this outfit.

Foam would probably be easier and faster. And a lot less messy.

here's an idea; thrift stores tend to carry things that aren't in style anymore. that would be a good place to look for stuff like that. or maybe TJ Maxx. just some thoughts, and some places you might try. CHKD has good thrift stores in my area.

TJ Maxx? you really think there might be some stuff there? there's one not too far from where my brother works. hmmmm. chkd does have some good thrift stores around. thanks for all the great ideas, everyone! if you come up with any others, lemme know. i'll let you know if we have any luck finding anything.

And I don't have the ability to put it back up there. But, you can repost it and I will quote it and add it to the top of my first post so that it will start at the top of page one.

I don't know anything about costumes, but I do know about halter-tops. Have you tried looking at some of the online halter-top stores? You'd be surprised what good stuff you can find at some of them. Dunno if this will help any, but I hope it does.
