The agony of being a spectator.

G-stick, does this mean you are watching in agony because you'd like to be there? Or are you in agony, because it's on, and you'd rather be watching something else and feel bombarded by all the coverage?
Me, I'm hooked. Though a couple of those nice people over in the television forum have politely interjected a nice comment or two, I've been pretty much talking to myself about the Olympics over there.
Me talking to myself? What else is new? Oops, gotta run. The women's gymnastic floor exercise is on.

Ah Phalon, glad someone else was watching the women's gymnastics...I fell asleep towards the end and woke up 3 hours later who won? Hope it was the US as Britain failed to qualify, their girls looked like they were having a good time. My only complaint about the Olympics is that they seem to be showing every random event from canoeing to archery but no three day eventing (horses)...you would think that as its only on for...you guessed it...three days they'd humour us horse lovers that's my rant... dixie

I've always been a huge fan of the Olympics but relishing in it a bit more after not having electric or phone for a few days.
The women have been kicking butt- been watching women's swimming and they are quick!!! I even gladly watched the womens shot putt this afternoon and I got to see some of womens vollleyball.
Watching the mens all around gymanistics as I type -feel bad for Paul Haun- so close til he fell.
I guess us Olympic addicts should be glad it only last for 2 weeks other wise nothing would get done! lol

Hawoops, sorry, I forgot about the t.v. forum. I haven't watched t.v. in so long till NOW! Anyway, too late to erase it.
Equesterian, is that long for horse? I have to slip into my philosophical self here and say how interesting Olympics are. I think they are full of ethnocentric eccentricities (let me take a breath after that). Each country shows their athletes and events that are dear to them. In the end it all looks like your country is the best.
Yep. Well, and I am not a big USA type. I actually like to see it spread around. And being an election year I wonder how much it will impact. Dang, I dragged that in.
I would like to see New Guinea end up with the biggest medal count. Or Lichtenstein-spelled wrong no doubt. La la la la
I would also like to see field hockey.
Why I am ranting....I think no millionaires would be nice. No pros in tennis and basketball.
Well, off to talk on Gams' thread.

Why I am on a roll. X, I saw just a smidgeon of shot putt or shot put? Anywho, it was a cool local. I have been there, oh, yes, I was in training but I thought shot was a drink so they booted me out.
It could have been better if it was in the buff ala tradition. Yessiree. It would be nice to see more of the traditional sports in that old stadium like wrestling and boxing. I like the sports outside. Very nice.

But he won the gold anyway! I agree, it would be nice to see a sport there that was done there in the original olympics. I'm not sure about seeing the shot-putters naked, but they all should've worn flesh-colored clothes to lend to a little authenticity where that's concerned.

Having missed all the equestrian stuff it looks like the individual gold and team silver could go to the UK after all...some kind of dispute over a german competitor... Would be cool though...no disrespect to the german bods. Am looking forward to the athletics, everybody watch out for my friend Jo Fenn who is running in the 800m for Britain dixie

You have a friend in the Olympics? That's really cool! A co-worker of mine has a cousin in cycling, but I forgot her name. My co-worker didn't even know she was going to be in the Olympics this year and didn't know what her married name was, so she had to ask someone in her family when she heard the name.

Man, I was so happy to see the Russian Svetlana, The Svelt Russian gymnast, smile. That was all I wanted to see-her look a bit happy. Now, would someone please treat her to a pizza?

Wow, 12th? I didn't realize he was so low in the rankings, but it's understandable with the way he fell and almost wiped out one of the judges. I thought the gymnastics were great, too. It wasn't very suspenseful for me, though, because I inadvertently caught a spoiler before it had aired in the States. I was [ amazed at how graciously Svetlana accepted 2nd place this time around after Sydney. She actually looked happy. I can't help but wonder if she'll change her mind and come back in 2008, though.] [Spoilers in white until midnight PT for the west coast]

I think Svetlana will be too tall by then. She got gyped, is that how that is spelled, out of the previous one by the short horse position. That was terrible.
I would like to see the gymnasts end there routines by undoing there supersonic tight hair dos. Then, we could see that again in slow-mo.

Too tall. Yes, she is getting up there for a gymnast, isn't she? But never say never! I agree, Sydney was horrible for her. They made her think she wasn't going to be able to redo the vault, and that didn't exactly help her frame of mind when doing the uneven bars. If that had happened to the others, who knows what might have happened? She was the unlucky one to find out that the vault was set too low. Of course, as Paul Hamm demonstrated yesterday, people can overcome almost anything. If she had kept her composure, I doubt she would have taken a fall from the uneven bars. So while we can rightfully blame the people who set up the vault 5cm too low, and the officials for not automatically giving her the redo in the beginning, due to the vault's non-regulation height... she also has herself to blame for losing her temper and not focusing on the task at hand. Although she didn't know at the time that she'd have the opportunity to redo the vault, she still would've had a shot if she had kept her focus. And thanks to Paul Hamm, we now know that it's not impossible to fall in the vault and still win the gold. The moral to Paul Hamm's story is never give up, no matter how bad you screw up. The moral to Svetlana's story is never give up, no matter how bad you get screwed.

OMG, her 5th Olympics? I just asked hubby, and he said she's 37 years old. Way to go, Gail! I saw the prelims for the women's 100m sprint today. I didn't see the Kuwaiti, but I saw the Afghan and the Iraqi. I can't remember any of their names right now due to lack of sleep, but it was great to watch them run! The Afghan girl beat out a Somalian who managed to follow the wrong line and wound up in the next lane for a while (poor girl). Even though she placed 2nd to last in her group of the preliminaries, it was great to see her face at the end of the race. She looked ecstatic just to be there. The Iraqi didn't beat anyone in her group, but her time was better than the Afghan's and Somalian's. After reading about her training conditions and always hearing about what it's like in Iraq, she has a lot to be proud of. I just wish I could have seen the Kuwaiti in her preliminary run. I don't know if I just missed it, or if she didn't run for some reason.

Michael Phelps has given up a place on a relay so one of his teammates has a chance at a medal. "We're here as a team" He's only 19.

Only 19 years old? Zots!
I saw a bit of the trampeleaners. They weren't leaning badly at all, in fact they really caught a lot of air. I am a bit of a trampelbeaner myself but nothing like them. I cannot believe how high they go.

I had the day off and had a day of nothing but AC and Olympics - a much needed relaxing day- Watched mens beach volleyball the start of the track events and lots and lots of swimming- Phelps at 19 proves to be a class act- while the guy who won the 50 m race is soo full of himself at 29- rather brash I thought.

I am not too excited about track and field. Anyone else? Just doesn't do it for me. I don't know why. So many basic running races which are just like the endless swimming races but dry.
Gads, I am complaining.

Hey, I read in one of these posts, in one or the other thread that you did that rowing thing. I never figured you for the scull and crossbones type.
Then again, there was that tattoed red-head down the street.
