I am in love!
I've never watched American Idol, those dancing talent shows, America's Next Top Super-Duper So You Think You're A Star type programs, but late last summer the girls started watching America's Got Talent, and I admit I'm hooked.
This season has a lot of very talented people doing all sorts of things. There are a few extremely good male singers that I really like. But this one , I adore just as much as Sharon Osbourne, one of the judges does. OMG! Opera has never been so fun!
Here are 3 of the 4 of his performances for the show.
The first is his audition....worth a look just to see the expression of the audience and judges when he walked out on stage, and watch the looks on their faces change when he starts to sing.
This video really showcases his phenominal voice:
And this one! This is my favorite as the Prince takes on Queen in his rendition of Bohemian Rapsody:

Ya know. I've never been big on operas, but I think it's mostly because I don't know what they're saying, and therefore have no idea what's going on. I liked this a lot.

Same here, Joxie - it's hard for me to really appreciate something if I can't understand what's be said (or in the case of operas, what's being sung).
I just love this guy though. So fun to watch - so over-the-top theatrical, and in an off-the-wall kinda way, so damned sexy.

It is, isn't it? Like Piers, one of the judges, said, he's "a guilty pleasure".
It's down to the wire. I heard somewhere that they started off with 70,000 contestants, and last night was the top final 10 acts left. One of the categories with the stiffest competition throughout has been the male singers; there were probably about 8 or 10 very good ones. Out of the ten remaining acts, there are three of them left.
One of them, an 18 year old young man named Taylor Matthews, has been a favorite of mine from the start. I could listen to him sing all day long. If I was 25 years younger, I'd be in love...or at least, in serious infatuation. He is just so damned adorable, to borrow one of Siren's expressions, you just wanna sop him up like gravy on a biscuit (or something like that). Here's his 90 second audition. The expression on his Dad's face while watching his son on stage gets me all choked up everytime.
He faultered a bit during two of his performances since for the competition, perhaps choosing songs, or having them chosen for him, that didn't suit his unique style. It was touch and go whether he would move on, or not, but I'm glad he made it to the top ten. Last night, my family doesn't agree, but I think he got back on track with his version of "What a Wonderful Life". I love it.
The other male singer has just the right mix of silk and smoke to make is voice one I could listen to all day also. Here's my favorite of Michael Grimm's performances on the show, though it wasn't his performance last night.
And then of course, there's the one and only Prince Poppycock, who is a show - a deserves to have a show all his own.
Last night's performance, (as an aside, check out his heels; I couldn't stand in them, let alone dance without causing myself serious injury):
Sheesh, ten great acts, and only 4 move on after tonight!

You're right about John, Gams. Has effortless sex appeal and charisma. And I admire performers who really put it all out there.
After this, there'll be no more odd jobs for that guy. He's a star!

That he is, Siren. Unfortunately, his final performance was marred, possibly costing him the win....not by his doing, but by one of the judges. His choosing to perform a serious operatic piece was deemed by Piers Morgan as "not fun", who "buzzed" him right at the peak of the song. The buzzer drown out his voice altogether. Our whole family was shocked - not only that a contestant would be given the buzzer at this point in the competition, but at the rudeness of the gesture.
We were also shocked that he came in fourth out of the last bunch of contestants.
The "Final Four" contained an amazing amount of talent, but it was Michael Grimm that won.

Pretty song, Q - thanks for posting. I've always loved Aaron's voice.
The new album might sound a little "Disturbed" because Staind went with the same producer that works with Disturbed, Sevendust, and 3 Doors Down. Not that I'd know this without doing a drill just now; heck, I didn't even know Staind released a new CD this year.
Woefully out of the new music loop, I am. I still can't find a radio station I like, and have had to settle for one that plays the occasional "classic metal" (my term). Any new music seems to be from bands like Hinder, Seether, or any other band that sounds, was discovered, or wants to be Nickelback, (who, in my opinion, hasn't released a decent CD in nearly the last decade - maybe I'm exaggerating there, but I haven't been able to stand their music since around the time "Figured You Out" was released). In fact, a current playlist of the last 50 songs played by the station reveals songs by Seether, Theory of a Deadman, and two by Nickelback, although there were also two by Linkin Park, one Soundgarden, one Puddle of Mudd, a P.O.D., and a Temple of the Dog - Temple of the Dog, and Soundgarden, were defunct, what? 10 years ago? Classic Chris Cornell before Audioslave, and even Audioslave hasn't been around for a while.
I flip back and forth between trying to find a decent song on the station, and your CDs mixes. LX just made me a new one: "Mom, these songs all have to be 10 years old". No: some of them, I'm sure, are older.

Ah! Tell me I don't know my Disturbed! Not that I don't love, love, love me some angry metal but Aaron has such an amazing voice and I was just a tad disappointed when I first scanned the new CD. Doesn't sound like Staind to me and Aaron's voice is a little lost on most of the tracks. Sis, I sent you an invitation to Spotify.com. Wanted to send one to LX as well, but only had your PT's e mail. Don't know if you've heard of it because it just became available in the US a couple of months ago. At first you needed an invitation, not sure if you still do. You should check it out if you haven't already. I have had Ana's European account for two years and I love it more than anything. It's free and easy--or you can do away with the ads and download to your IPOD for free for $5/month...or be able to put your playlist on your phone (& get rid of the ads) for $10/month. I use the $5 just to lose the clutter of the ads. You can find any song that you can imagine practically and it lets you preview new releases every week. I love my Spotify & I know you two would love it too if you don't already have it. If you give me an e mail for LX, I'll send her an invite. Oh, oh...AND...they have customized radio stations as well in the basic, so you can listen to what you like. Gotta run finish up for work! Peace, love, & tunage!!!

I'm so sorry, Siren. This thread is stuck down here where I forget to look. I consider myself a music guru...it's was my savior when I was a teenager and it's the one thing that I can always depend on for inspiration, comfort, and release. Spotify is fantastic, hands down. If you message me an e mail address, I'll send you an invite. I don't think you need the invite since we now have it in the US, but I'll be happy to send it anyway. Sorry again that I missed your post.

Oh-my-gosh!!! Thanks for the reminder, Sis. Hubs put the new Chevelle cd in my stocking for Christmas; I haven't even listened to it yet! He asked if he could borrow it shortly after Christmas for his drive to work. He gave it back, (not liking but one or two songs - but then, he's never been a Chevelle fan), and it's been buried somewhere on my desk since. I forgot all about it until your mention.
I guess it's time to do some cleaning, (eye-roll). Who knows what else I'll find.

Sorry to interrupt......but I feel I must have a small melt down here....
OMG!!!!!!! They killed my favorite radio station!!!!!!
It went from adult alternative with great features like accoustic sunrise and Studio C. This station basically completely altered my idea of music and introduced me to songs and artists I would never have even thought to listen to. Brandi Carlile, Maroon 5, Plain White T's, Death Cab for Cutie, Adele (before she got uber famous), Jack Johnson, Ray LaMontagne, and many many more......sigh! And they FIRED my favorite DJ's and went to a format without real people!
Now they play 80's music........been there done that (didn't like that the first time around) plus there are three other channels that play that kind of music.
I wrote a nasty little note on their "comment" page. Along with a hundred other disgruntled radio listeners. I KNEW this was going to happen when it got bought by the Clear Channel Morons.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Ah, Scrappy, I sooo feel your pain, (see my above post above from September 28th). When we first moved here, I had my choice of three - yes, three - alternative metal stations, (unusual for an area that is comprised of mainly of small towns and farmland). One-by-one they fell: the first turned country; the second switched to a sports talk format, and the third - which is the one I'm stuck with - I don't think plays anything released after 2005 except for pseudo-metal made by if-we-played-pop-we'd-be-a-"boy-band" bands.
If I was in my car more, I'd consider Sirius. Seriously.
