I liked that one Kat. It was a fun movie.
Bang the Drum Slowly - Robert De Niro and Michael Moriarty play the principal characters. The script is excellent and Al Pacino's has called this his favorite movie which is a better than average recommendation.

I liked that one Kat. It was a fun movie. Yeah, I like a bit of swash and buckle as well Step', and there was certainly plenty in that one. Fair bit of that in this one as well ..... Cyrano de Bergerac - The swordsman/poet played by Jose Ferrer.

A Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich.
I read the book by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn when I was at school in the late 60's. In 1970 they made it into a film starring Tom Courtenay. The story is set in the russian labour camps, and tells the story of one man's struggle to survive. A very bleak but compelling story and I think the film did the book justice in it's portrayal of 'the day'.

Ever After: A Cinderella Story - (1998) a not-too-bad reinvention of the fairy-tale starring Drew Barrymore as Danielle (Cinderella), and Anjelica Huston as the evil stepmother.

That film's a big favorite of a friend of mine, Gams. BTW, the new photo is LOL funny!
Ah, Kat - leave it to you to mention Jose Ferrer's wonderful version of Cyrano. So good!
For The Boys (1991) - Bette Midler and James Caan star in this story of USO entertainers who perform for the troops together through World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Bette was Oscar-nominated for this one.

You too, Siren? Weird that I've always liked it, only because it wasn't until a month or so ago that I watched the entire thing! Up until then, it was always only bits and pieces here and there when I've been flipping through the channels.
Gravity - the new blockbuster with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. When I first saw the trailers for this one, I had no desire to see it - it looked way too depressing, with no possible good outcome. With all the hoopla after its release though, and friends' rave reviews, it's on my list once it's released on DVD. Sorry I missed it on the big screen.

Miranda (1948) - A young married man is abducted by a mermaid, who agrees to release him only if she can accompany him to see what life on dry land is like. Glynis Johns played a charming mermaid long before Daryl Hannah.

"Remy" the rodent with culinary flair in "Ratatouille." I loved that film, Kat. Solaris. The original russian version, very atmospheric (if you'll forgive the pun!)

Some really good movies in this thread. Glad I brought back a happy memory for you, Kat. Good to see you, moonglum! Three Secrets (1950) - Three women wonder if the sole survivor of a highly-publicized plane crash is the child they each gave up for adoption five years earlier. The women are portrayed by Ruth Roman, Patricia Neal, and the cooly beautiful Eleanor Parker, who died Monday at the age of 91. She had a marvelous career, co-starring with Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, Kirk Douglas, and others in many major films, and was a 3-time Best Actress Oscar nominee. But she is best remembered as the baroness who loses Captain Von Trapp to Maria in the 1965 version of "The Sound Of Music".

My sister loves that movie, Step. I can't bring myself to watch it. I cry at Hallmark commercials!
The Velvet Touch (1948) - Leonard Maltin called it "A satisfying murder mystery about a stage actress (Rosalind Russell) who commits the perfect crime."

Geronimo - An American Legend. Wes Studi starred as the Apache leader, good cast including Gene Hackman, Robert Duvall and Matt Damon but ultimatly a disappointing movie, with the focus more on those attempting to capture him then on Geronimo himself.
