Nope, not "v for vendetta" I'm afraid Ellie, this goes back a bit further [ mid eighties ] Won two Oscars plus a number of other nominations.

Ahhh. Harrison Ford springs to mind. A young Amish boy and I think his sister. Th boy witnesses a murder, Harrison goes back to their community to protect them. Oh what was it called............The Witness, i think?

Spot on mate, I am indeed John Book from the excellent "Witness."
Harrison Ford's best film IMO.

Harrison Ford's best film IMO. I'm an all-time HF fan. Love all his films. Based on the story of old-time knights of Japan. I am the leader of a group of mercenaries hired to recover a certain object.

Sounds like it might be The Last Samurai... but it's been so long since I've seen that movie that maybe I'm confusing it with another one.

"The Last Samurai" came to mind with me as well GON, but rereading that clue "based on" makes me think it has nothing to do with Japan.
Is it maybe a western MG?

Fraid it's not 'The last Samurai', you two.
It's not a western Kat and has an 'international' cast of players.

Yup, it has an American director, but was filmed almost exclusively in France.

Sheesh this is a tuffie, I'm coming up completely blank. Any Oscar wins/nominations? It won the Young Hollywood Award for Best Soundtrack and was nominated for 3 other awards, including one for Best Action Sequence for one of its car chase scenes.

"Car chase scenes" well I'm guessing it's not a "Fast and the Furious" type film [ is it? ] and it contains action scenes, would the genre be espionage/thriller [ similar to the Bourne trilogy ]
This is gonna take some time methinks.

No, it's not any of the Fast and Furious films, much higher calibre actors in this one. Yep the genre would indeed be that.

Much higher caliber actors then Vinnie D, sheesh it must be someone really great. ;D
Think I'll have to come at this from a different angle [ in case JJ is wrong ] international cast, shot in France so I'll assume there's one or more french actors in it, the first two that come to mind are Gérard Depardieu and Jean Reno, and it doesn't sound like anything I can recall Gerard in, sooooo would Jean Reno be in it?
"If" he is, could the film be "Ronin" with Robert De Niro, I recall that was set in France and was a thriller of the type described, just can't remember the "exact" plot, or if they were searching for a particular object.
"If" he isn't then it's back to square one.
Phew, talk about long winded.

Hee hee. Long winded, very often than not, get's you there Kat. Sorry Jon but Kat's got it.
It was indeed 'Ronin', so named after the masterless samurai knights of old Japan. The cast included Robert De Niro as Sam, Jean Reno, Johnathan Pryce, Sean Bean, Natascha McEllhone and Stellan Skarsgard. A truly international cast I think you'll agree. A much under-rated film in my opinion, but then I'm probably De Niro biased. lol.

Sheesh thank heavens after all that convoluted reasoning to get the answer.
Yeah good film as I recall, and I agree, De Niro can do no wrong IMO, even in his bad films at least he's always interesting.

They gave him an indian name too, didn't they? I don't remember it either.
I don't know the guy's real name, but the Indian name he was given in the movie was "Dances with Wolves".

Maybe someone can help me, there was this one movie where these two strangers meet on a train, and decide to kill someone for each other... but I can't remember the name of the movie, or the names of the characters from the movie. It's one of Aph's favs, though, and I would like to get it for her for her birthday. Uhm... help...??
