Too easy! it's Telly Savalas as Kojak! I take it from your threads that you like detective movies, films, TV shows etc?

Yes, easy..yes, Kojak..yes, I like detective stories! I watched "The Thin Man" for the umpteenth time the other night, and it still makes me giggle. And I'm currently re-reading "O Is For Outlaw" from Sue Grafton's Kinsey Milhone series. And my first hero was probably Nancy Drew.
You and kat both guessed Kojak correctly. Who goes next?

Why thank you kind sir!
Here you are then.
I am a man of the sixties who is on a different case every week. I cannot and will not get too close to the opposite sex because of my travels and occupation. However, I do run into some old friends along the way.

My pleasure fair lady. Ummmm, intriguing, from that description I'd say you may be some kind of agent, so I'll take a wild guess and say Napoleon Solo from "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." If that's correct then you ran into a "lot" of old friends along the way if I recall correctly.

You play a hard game doncha Vox, you're really gonna make me/us work for this one. Righto then, "not born in London" does that suggest you're not English [ or does it just mean you're not a native Londoner? ] I'm pretty sure you're not this guy but I might as well eliminate him while I'm at it, so would you possibly be ............ John Steed? Nope. Didn't think so. ;D

it was a british series with an American playing the lead role!

Ummmm, this is getting harder by the minute. Let's see, British series, early sixties, about an agent working in London, played by an American. Could you drop a clue or three about the actor who plays the part and we'll see if that jogs my memory.

Hmmm, let's see!
He was born in Texas about 1937 and made his film debut in "The chase"
You should be able to get him from that Kat!

You should be able to get him from that Kat! Wanna bet a Shekel or two on that Vox, or maybe a few Dinars? Know the film, but I don't think you're referring to Marlon Brando or Robert Redford, and definitely not Jane Fonda, so I'm no further advanced I'm afraid. Got a few more clues <and an Aspirin as well thanks>

Well this TV character was only known by his last name (character name) nobody ever knew his first name as it was never mentioned throughout the series, oh, and he likes to smoke.
He also had a noteable fight in a movie with the one and only Sean Connery!

Yikes, looks like you've been tumbled Moonglum, nice try though and much appreciated. Can't put one past you eh Vox. Gotta say that if you know the answer MG, which you apparently do, then go for it, I'm no further advanced I'm afraid, have a feeling this may be one that never made it "down under." I'll have one last go, was it the lead character in "Secret American agent with large travelling bag operating in London?" ;D

Okay Kat, here's a big clue, this TV character was known just as McGill.

|
Post by katina2nd on Apr 6, 2007 20:14:14 GMT -6
That's a danged good clue alright Vox, seeing as how I'm after your characters name I'd say the answer is "McGill". How's that, am I right, am I, huh? No idea what the show is though, think this is one I've never heard of I'm afraid, looks as though I've been well and truly gazumped which means you get to go again.

Yeah I was completely lost Vox [ until your great clue ] never heard of the show to be honest so we would still have been going this time next year if you hadn't given it up. Didn't get the answer so reckon you should go again okay? P.S. What was the film where he got thumped by Sean Connery?

Sorry you didn't get that one Kat, forgot that youmay not have seen it in Aussie. The answer to your question above is, it was in Brian De Palma's The Untouchables (1987), he played a corrupt Irish cop named Mike Dorsett.

Okay Kat, here's another one for you.
This series began with a medical doctor named David Keel (Ian Hendry) investigating the murder of Peggy, his office receptionist and wife-to-be, by a drug ring. A mysterious stranger named ................, who was investigating the ring, appeared on the scene and together they set out to avenge her death in the show's first two episodes.
This series was a successor (but not, as sometimes stated, a direct sequel) to Hendry's earlier series Police Surgeon, in which he played a similar character.
Can you name the mysterious stranger?

Another toughie, think you're gonna give me grey hair Vox. Guessing somewhat here, but I know he [ Hendry ] was in the earlier episodes of The Avengers before being replaced by a succession of butt kicking females, so I'll say the answer may/could/hopefully be ..................... John Steed?

*the game pauses while Kat indulges in a long daydream about Emma Peel and her black jumpsuit* ;D Just kiddin' ya, kat! Well may you grin Siren, and even though you're kiddin' you're right on the money, brought back fond memories I can tell you. That hair, those eyes, that voice, [ not to mention that black jumpsuit ] I was totally besotted at the time, still am I reckon <calm down man> Been over forty years and I still don't think anyone has matched her character on the small screen or the large for sheer sophisticated allure, although maybe Uma Thurman came close when she donned that yellow jumpsuit <ummmm, think I see a trend developing> and started on her trail of mayhem.
