It was these episodes on commercial tele about twelve months ago that first got me interested in the show. Unfortunately the channel that screens it only puts it on for a short time in the non-rating holiday period; this year it only ran for about three or four weeks and then they pulled it off air right in the middle of a very interesting storyline.
The good news of course is that Foxtel started screening it several months ago from the beginning [ I think ] five nights a week, and now they've caught up to this point. Just hope it keeps going but I don't know, not sure if they can screen episodes before they're shown on free to air, and if that's the case I'll probably have to wait another twelve months to see more of the newer episodes.
You're right about Cruz [ Tia Texada ] a very strong screen presence, the same with Molly Price [ Faith Yokas ] you'd think they'd have no trouble finding work in another series or even on the big screen.
Lots of luck with your channel search, hope it turns up on one of them.

Have you seen the final episode yet? Some surprises in it, for sure.
My Secret Service partner and I travel the Old West, fighting crime in our specially equipped private train. I design the crime-fighting gadgets, and my partner wins the ladies.

Nope I haven't Siren, not really sure how close to the finish I am. Do you remember the episodes where Bosco rejoins the force after being shot, there's a storyline involving several groups involved in a "turf war", one of the leaders gets them together to discuss territorial claims, makes an excuse to leave and then blows up the building [ not very nice ] well that's where it was at when it was pulled off air.
The episodes I'm watching now on Foxtel are those involving Charles Haid as an IAB investigator trying to nail Cruz for a shooting.
Reckon you're ? West from the series "The Wild Wild West".

"turf war", eh? Ooooo, you're getting close to the end!
You're awfully close, kat. Actually, I'm "Artemis Gordon" from WWW, and William Conrad played the ladykiller, James West.
Close enough for me - your turn!

Drat, I was hoping there were a few more seasons to go; oh well can't complain, just glad I got to see it from the beginning.
I'm a no nonsense Los Angeles detective, and "The story you are about to see is true", I'm interested only in solving the crime, and to do that all I require are "Just the facts, ma'am".

I'm an aspiring singer, who supports my young son by working at a diner owned by a loud, abrasive, cheapskate, who mans the kitchen. Red-headed, gum-snapping Flo and sweet, naive Vera, are waitresses along with me.

First name that popped into my head for some reasom was Laverne from "Laverne and Shirley", but I don't think she fits those clues, so may need a bit more help with this one thanks Siren.

No, not Laverne. This series was based on a movie starring Ellen Burstyn and Kris Kristofferson. Movie had the same plot: aspiring singer on the road to California. Her car breaks down along the way, and she takes a job as a waitress to support herself and her son. The waitress' first name was in the name of the movie, and is the one-word title of the tv series.
Sassy Flo uttered a catchphrase that swept America: "Kiss my grits!"

"Kiss my grits!" I like it. Don't recall the tv series at all Siren, but I think the movie you're referring to would be "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore", so if the name in the title is the name of the series you would be "Alice" from the show "Alice". How's that for great detective work eh?

You're a regular Columbo, kat! It IS "Alice". I wish you had the chance to see it. A pretty fun sitcom. Flo was so popular, she got her own show. But it didn't last long.
"Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" was a good movie. I need to watch that one again.

You're a regular Columbo, kat! What, you mean disheveled? Don't remember "Alice" ever screening down here Siren, which doesn't mean it didn't of course. Looked it up on IMDb and see that it had a long run of about ten years, must have been very popular. "I'm a former Texas Ranger who now travels throughout the west with my Indian sidekick, righting wrongs, fighting villains and helping the weak".

"Alice" wasn't a favorite of ours. But yes, it was a big success.
Let's see..."The Lone Ranger"?

Nooooooooooooooo, IT'S FINISHED!!!!!!!!
The episodes of Third Watch on Foxtel have passed those being shown on free to air, and I'm happily watching last nights show, the one where the station house is attacked and practically destroyed, then Cruz goes out with a bang and suddenly everybody is being dispersed to other precincts and Sully is doing a voiceover describing how each character fared over the years.
Well I assume it's finished, it's still on for the remainder of the month at least, so I'm guessing they'll be repeats of older eps.
Tell me it wasn't the last episode Siren, pleasssssseeeeee.

Um, sorry, kat. I hate to break it to you, but...yeah, that's the last one. Apparently, the cancellation of "Third Watch" was a surprise to the producers. So, they had limited episodes in which to wrap up some story lines. Some they simply dropped. Others, they had to quickly resolve. I think they did pretty well overall. Cruz's end was shocking and heroic (and heartbreaking for my young niece, who cried over it). Glad to see our gal, Yokas, make detective and have a hot new boyfriend, leaving that dolt, Fred, behind. I thought Sully's voiceover was kind of corny. But the writers did the best they could, considering.

Hey Siren, didn't you read the last line of my post, I asked you to tell me it "wasn't " the last episode. ;D Yeah I kinda knew it was, just hoping I guess. I agree, they didn't do a bad job, although you could tell it was somewhat rushed in an attempt to tie up all the loose ends, dang it, one more season would have been great to really finish it off properly, but I guess we should be thankful for what we got, it had a fair run. Strange though, apparently it was still rating well, and some of the episodes toward the end were probably as good as any they'd made. It did look like Yokus finished up doing okay, both professionally and personally which was good, great character and probably my favourite on the show. Cruz's end certainly took me by surprise, though I guess she was always destined to go out on the job ......... hope your niece has recovered.

I had a chance to do a phone interview during the final season with the actress who played the paramedic, Grace. She was so excited to be part of the show, and said that the ratings were better than they had been in quite awhile. I later read that the viewer age demographic was older than what advertisers most desire, and that that was the reason NBC pulled the plug. What chaps me is that, to my knowledge, they haven't had a show do particularly well in that time slot since.
I agree that, in its final season, the show was in a definite upswing. Every episode was exciting, and left you raring to go for the next. And, yes, one more season, or even half season, would've been wonderful.
With Cruz's cancer diagnosis, I guess she thought that if she wasn't going to survive anyway, and that she might as well take a bad guy with her. The kiss goodbye to Bosco was a grand gesture.
Lol - well, I do think Jojo was depressed for awhile when the show went off the air. But she consoled herself with reruns (while they lasted).
I wish dvd boxed sets were a bit less expensive. I'd love to have the whole series on dvd.

That must have been interesting [ the interview ] was it for an article of some sort?
The wonderful "viewer age demographic" isn't it wonderful, good shows get the chop because not enough teenie boppers watch it, that really riles me. The show was especially great toward the finish, I was even beginning to like Carlos, and even Bosco didn't seem quite as annoying, plus there were some great new characters introduced in the last season or two, such as Faiths boss Jelly, and Brendan Finney.
The kiss was a nice gesture, as was the scene of Cruz's partner Manny placing flowers on her grave; I felt sorry for the poor guy, he was obviously keen on her but she treated him pretty rough.
Those dvd boxed sets do leave a bit of a hole in the pocket unfortunately.

I was convinced for awhile that Jelly was the traitor among the cops. Wrong again!
Yes, you're right about that dadgum older viewer discrimination. I heard that that reason was behind the demise of several popular series, including "Murder, She Wrote", "Diagnosis: Murder", and "Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman".

Woops - sorry, kat. Flash a shiny object, or mention "Third Watch", and I get distracted very easily. Here we go. I'm being a bit cautious about this one (leaving out some obvious plot elements), because it would be too easy, otherwise. At first glance, many men would consider me the luckiest man on earth: I oversee the work of 3 gorgeous young women. Trouble is, they're too young for me. Besides, they look at me much like a father figure, or even worse, the harmless type. So, it's strictly a business relationship. But our business is never dull, with the ladies going undercover in a circus, roller derby, even a women's prison.

Yes sir, Charlie - um, I mean, kat! I'm a female police officer in London, rising through the ranks to DCI and then Det. Supt. despite having to battle hostility from my male colleagues. Though great at my job the stress takes it's toll on my private life and I find myself making questionable decisions and turning more and more to drink.

It's been long while since I've seen an episode, kat. But is it your beloved Helen Mirren in "Prime Suspect"?
I recently saw an interview with Helen on Jay Leno, and she looked fantastic. Looked her age, but fresh and youthful, somehow, and very tastefully dressed and made up. Looked like a million dollars - every inch the star. I think Leno was impressed, too.

Figured that one would be a soda for you Siren, it is indeed the lovely and talented Helen Mirren as DCI Jane Tennison. Been a huge admirer of her awesome talents since first seeing her in a film she made here in Australia when in her early twenties called "Age of Consent", a real fun flick, though I have to be honest and admit it wasn't her acting ability that impressed me most about her in that particular film, if you've seen it I'm sure you'll understand what I'm talking about. And yes, she looks just as fantastic now as she did all those years ago.
